We've never voted before in these elections but will this time as it's time for Mr Khan to GO!!!

London's crime rate has shot up and it is time we had a new mayor, anyone other than Sadiq Khan

I knew without even needing to open the thread who would have started this one!

But yes, three crosses for Labour on my ballot paper.

LadyWhitwell · 30/04/2024 20:13

We post voted here. Sadiq Khan all the way.

So, you are not concerned re street crime ?

LadyWhitwell · 30/04/2024 20:34

It's the tory government that has laid the seeds for increased crime over the past 14 years through their policies.

I think you've got to look at these things contextually Birmingham has a problem with street crime and they have a conservative most of the problems are to do with national government not local or mayoral.

The devolution wasn't exactly a good deal therefore you can't blame all the issues in a place purely on one person. You also have to look at national government.

StoatofDisarray · 30/04/2024 20:38

Yes and I'm voting for Khan again.

EasternStandard · 30/04/2024 20:42

Yep I am

Orangepuffpastry · 30/04/2024 20:59

I wont’ be voting for Kahn. The ULEZ expansion has cost my family hugely this year. It’s made a huge impact on our finances and mental health.

Both my wife and I work in jobs that require travel to neighbouring towns outside of the new ULEZ zone, at unsociable hours not served by public transport. We were struggling along with two old diesel cars (all we could afford).

We scrapped both of them and bought two 20-year old petrol bangers under the scheme, both of which have of course proved unreliable and needing constant fixing up, costing thousands so far. It was all we could afford. They both push out far more CO2 than our diesels did, so the environmental benefits aren’t obvious either (I understand that ULEZ is an about particle emissions, not CO2).

Plus, public transport hasn’t improved at all around here. There used to be a brilliant TFL uber-style minibus that you could hail - scrapped. And the only new bus route is a rebadged old one that uses 14 year old filthy buses.

I’ll be voting for Susan Hall, even though I’m not a Tory supporter. I want my vote to count, but I simply can’t endorse Kahn after what he’s put us through.

Agreed

I was talking to a nurse at the hospital and now she cant afford to use her car, nor but a newer one. She has to leave home 1hr 30 before her shift and getting back in the dark is even harder as its a good 10-minute walk up a relatively isolated, dark road she lives on.

Our DiY man, he's had to take out a loan as his car did not meet Ulez standards

There is a couple on our road - they had their car from new, really looked after it and now cant justfuy using it a few times a week as Khand has stuck up ULEZ cams everywhere and vans patrolling - so they don't go out as often

I've heard about others that don't see their grandchildren's family as often as they did

This ULEZ scheme by Khan is ill-thought-out and could not really car how those working on lower wages, small businesses and families are affected as long as he gets more money for schemes that hardly anyone supports.

Kahn has not only failed the residents of London on crime but this insulting ULEZ scheme that hits the poorest amongst Londerner's

mynameiscalypso · 30/04/2024 22:09

I'm pretty sure in 20/30 years, ULEZ will be hailed as an excellent public health intervention

Jegersur · 30/04/2024 22:11

Yes, I will be voting Labour.

Xenia · 30/04/2024 22:12

I have voted by post (for Susan Hall). I encourage all mumsnetters who are in London to vote (even if you vote against my choice). If you are unsure or cannot be bothered vote for Susan Hall who has worked tirelessly for Londoners for years. We don't want London to have a permanent leader like the North Korean state - time for a change. Nor can we afford to split the votes if you are against Khan so vote Susan Hall.

Don't forget what Khan's office said about 40% of those of us who are in London https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/sadiq-khan-white-family-official-website-b2396431.html

(I am also affected hugely by Ulez day in day out even though only a large jump within the area)

Khan’s office under fire for suggesting white families ‘don’t represent Londoners’

The Labour London mayor was criticised over the message, which appeared as part of a guide to his brand

TheRainItRaineth · 30/04/2024 22:13

I will definitely be voting for Sadiq Khan. I think he's done a great job under very challenging circumstances. Hoping for a Labour government soon, too.

TheRainItRaineth · 30/04/2024 22:14

I won't be voting for Susan Hall as she is quite obviously a nasty little bigot.

mynameiscalypso · 30/04/2024 22:16

I don't understand how anyone in their right minds could vote for Susan Hall. Not only are some of her views abhorrent but she wants to remove free school meals.

Tukmgru · 30/04/2024 22:18

I drive and I’m voting for Khan for mayor, just to dispel this idea he’s anti driver. ULEZ is necessary, and whoever was in charge would need to implement something like it. Oh wait, didn’t Boris claim some green credentials for starting it during his TORY term as mayor? Yes. Yes he did. I’m voting Lib Dem for the London wide because I also think it’s important that other parties scrutinise the mayor, and the tories have been bloody useless and doing that.

NashvilleQueen · 30/04/2024 22:19

Not a London voter so had little knowledge of Susan Hall til I saw a video montage the other day. FML she's dreadful. Hoping Sadiq Khan is re-elected.

maroo · 30/04/2024 22:20

I’d be very surprised if this thread wasn’t started by the Tories. No one in their right mind would vote for dinosaur, Liz Truss-esque Susan Hall.

ohfourfoxache · 30/04/2024 22:22

ULEZ has royally fucked us over and cost us a lot

However, it was Grant Shapps who instigated it and Khan had no choice but to implement

He also brought in free school meals

I’m not his biggest fan, he can be quite stroppy, but it’s be a cold day in hell before I vote for that fucking lying Tory cunt Hall

Yes 👏 absolutely this

Vote Khan and I say this as someone who lost £5k in my diesel car

Vinorosso74 · 30/04/2024 22:23

Yes and I will be voting for Khan. These posts will not change my mind.
I'm thinking Susan Hall and her campaign team have lots of Mumsnet user names 🤔

Totally agree

JamNittyGritty · 30/04/2024 22:23

I am, Khan all the way (& am a driver in ULEZ zone who had to replace my diesel car)

wurlycurly · 30/04/2024 22:24

I shall be voting for Sadiq Khan. Crime is largely the result of social injustice. You can blame the Tories for that.

TheValueOfEverything · 30/04/2024 22:29

Definitely voting for Khan. No question. He’s got a vision especially on making cities livable through the climate crisis. He’s a real Londoner. The tories are to blame for the higher crime, and their candidate is a bigot and a liability.
