We've never voted before in these elections but will this time as it's time for Mr Khan to GO!!!

London's crime rate has shot up and it is time we had a new mayor, anyone other than Sadiq Khan

I see the people keen for to defend their right to breath in illegal levels of air pollution are out in force.

No arguing with car nutters I suppose.

TravellingSpoon · 01/05/2024 19:05

Not in London but will be out voting for the East Midlands Mayor tomorrow (for what its worth!). Struggling to choose between a safe vote for Labour and a defiant vote for the Green candidate.

One thing I noticed in the booklet that came round is that the Green candidate said no to ULEZ. Can anyone explain why the Greens are against it?

user1477391263 · 02/05/2024 01:02

Green candidates like Lib Dems often support whatever marginal local cause they think gives them a chance with some disaffected voters.

No idea that the Green Party as a whole thinks on ULEZ.

Having spent some time with people I wouldn't normally socialise with yesterday 😬 I fear Khan might be in trouble. They were all saying 'Khan out', that everyone they know is voting for Hall, and talking about how the ULEZ zone is being expanded and they'll be paying thousands a year (they won't).

People in London need to go out and vote for Khan... I sense another Brexit shock.

Were you in Bromley by any chance?

I'd be surprised if Khan doesn't win. 1/20 odds to win. Hall at 12/1.

I live in Bromley, and it's definitely a ABK area. The local MP is awful, but people found here would vote for a donkey with 3 legs if it had a blue rosette on.

I know someone who lives in Bromley. The atmosphere is so hostile to Khan that they're not mentioning how they voted.

I'd still expect him to win. I can't understand why anyone would vote for Hall.

I’d be very surprised if this thread wasn’t started by the Tories. No one in their right mind would vote for dinosaur, Liz Truss-esque Susan Hall.

Not Tories - a racist

CroftonWillow · 02/05/2024 09:12

All the candidates are dire. Still undecided but it won't be Khan.

ilovesooty · 02/05/2024 09:25

Sunak was explicitly asked about racist Facebook groups in PMQs yesterday and Hall's membership of them. He simply brushed the question aside.

Why would you vote for a racist unless you are one? Why would you be a PM promising to work with integrity and support a candidate like Hall?

I'm struggling. Sadiq would be my first choice, but his inability to define a woman and suggesting thay asking questions about this makes me a hateful person bothers me a lot. I'm almost at the point of voting for Count Binface, which is the kind of vote I would have found funny at 18. I am in my forties. It's a clusterfuck basically.

Use your Assembly list vote for the Social Democratic Party then.

I haven't noticed an "atmosphere". I think your friend is exaggerating a tad... I think it's more the case that the anti Khan brigade are the ones shouting the loudest. Rather than people being scared to say who they're voting for

He mentioned the people on the street shouting "Khan out" and said he'd advised his wife not to mention that she'd voted for Khan. That's all I'm going on really.

mynameiscalypso · 02/05/2024 09:53

I've not seen anyone in London shouting either way for a candidate. I feel like I'm missing out!

I haven’t noticed shouting either

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 02/05/2024 10:00

I won’t be voting for Khan.

Pissed off with the transport problems and all he did was waste millions on renaming the overground. There are constantly problems there, but all he cares is the image.

Nope, these people live on the Essex/London border.

I live in the borough of Bromley and have heard no shouting! Never voted Tory in my entire voting life, either, and don't intend to!

localnotail · 02/05/2024 11:13

Khan for me! Soz all ULEZ and Labour haters.

Wakemeuuuup · 02/05/2024 11:22

I don't want to vote to either Khan or Hall.

The problem with most of the other candidates is that their manifestos all start by telling us what an awful place London is. I really don't like that message.

I'm stuck this time. Although given the choice I'll probably have to go with Khan as I really can't stand Hall

Edited for spelling mistake

Xenia · 02/05/2024 11:38

Please remember to vote today not matter whom you choose. Women fought very hard to obtain a right to vote and it is not something given to them all countries of the world even now.

As for your choice that is up to you and no one ever needs to know as the ballot is secret. I recommend Susan Hall and she is probably the only one who can unseat Khan.

Remember to take ID with you

Yes I agree with this. No matter how you vote

LaurieFairyCake · 02/05/2024 11:43

Khan for me

Love what he's done, London is great

WhereIsSpringtime · 02/05/2024 12:12

I'm not ecstatic about any of the choices, but it's Khan for me. I think he gives a shit about kids too - the free school meals, trying to improve air quality indoors in schools. Also Susan Hall? Just no.

Beowulfa · 02/05/2024 12:22

The catalogue of London mayoral candidates was the most depressing thing I've ever read; and I'm into dystopian SF, Russian epics and Thomas Hardy.
