Making a new 70s playlist for Spotify, but lacking inspiration. If I Google best songs from the 70s I just get lots of good big hits, which are not always, y’know, good music.

So far I have some Bowie, Led Zeppelin, The Jam, The Police, Cat Stevens, Fleetwood Mac, The Jacksons, Siouxsie, The Clash and others.
looking for good songs of all genres, forgotten gems… even cheesy pop if it’s good.

I was thinking just the other day that the "storyline" in I Love to Love is identical to that of Wake Me Up Before You Go Go. Partner wants to dance, but singer wants to stay home and cuddle.
Sugar Baby Love is awesome, totally theatrical and OTT.
Pretty Vacant and Anarchy are terrific as well as No More Heroes from the Stranglers and the Buzzcocks, Ever Fallen in Love.
Was at a wedding a year or two ago and the youmg couple who are less than half my age chose Everyday by Slade as their first dance.
Someone has just mentioned Squeeze : Up the Junction, Cool for Cats and Another Nail in My Heart. Great songs.

A little later than advertised, here is my first draft 70s playlist, from a burner Spotify account!

It’s still a little bit of a work in progress, as it could do with more pop/disco/soul, but at 16+ hours, there’s a lot of good juicy stuff on there. It will develop over the next few days.
I haven’t had time to zone it, sorry!
Sorry if I’ve left out your favourite or added anything you hate…. I think I’ve got most suggestions from here on it! You can add it and amend it accordingly if you add it and make it your own.
