Making a new 70s playlist for Spotify, but lacking inspiration. If I Google best songs from the 70s I just get lots of good big hits, which are not always, y’know, good music.

So far I have some Bowie, Led Zeppelin, The Jam, The Police, Cat Stevens, Fleetwood Mac, The Jacksons, Siouxsie, The Clash and others.
looking for good songs of all genres, forgotten gemsâ€Ļ even cheesy pop if it’s good.

What are your 70s favourites? 🙂

So many bangers here! Darts! One Way Ticket! Meatloaf! The Only Ones! So many things I'd never have remembered. Did anyone mention "Substitute" by Clout? Just remembered that one today, haven't listened to it in decades.

Very busy with visitors and things just now, but I should have finished "MN's Ultimate 70s Playlist" by tomorrow evening, if you'll bear with me.
It's gonna be huge!

My salad days!
I used to listen mostly to albums in those days and had a vast vinyl collection, as did most of my friends. Whenever a new album came out, we used to go round to each other's homes to listen (and have a smoke.)

Led Zeppelin, of course. Anything off albums 2, 4 and Physical Graffiti. Some of my favourites are Battle of Evermore, Kashmir, Stairway to Heaven, Whole Lotta Love, Dazed and Confused, the Immigrant Song, Over the Hills and Far Away

Pink Floyd, anything off Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here and Animals. These albums are meant to be listened to as a whole, really.

Yes, anything off Fragile, I like Roundabout, Long Distance Runaround, Heart of the Sunrise, We Have Heaven.

Free, Fire and Water (an album and also a song), Goin Down Slow, Mr Big, etc

Ten Years After, Love Like a Man, Goin Home

King Crimson, Starless

Deep Purple, Smoke on the Water

Jethro Tull, Aqualung

Manfred Mann, Blinded by the Light

Derek and the Dominoes (it's Eric Clapton really) Layla

Kinks, Lola

Neil Young, the Needle and the Damage Done

Rod Stewart, Maggie May

Black Sabbath, Paranoid,

Alice Cooper, School's Out

LindorDoubleChoc · 02/05/2024 04:18

Pump It Up - Elvis Costello.

KindaBinding81 · 02/05/2024 04:57

Song on the Radio by Al Stewart.

KindaBinding81 · 02/05/2024 04:59

suburburban · 30/04/2024 19:21

I like Romeo by Mr Big

Supertramp - long way home

I forgot about Long Way Home - the first 30 seconds still sound so incredible!

Thevelvelletes · 02/05/2024 05:38

Even though Northern soul is my thing the two tone label put out a lot of belting records.
Two tone definitely worth a look.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/05/2024 06:00

Genesis were at their best in the 70s when Peter Gabriel was still in the group. The Carpet Crawlers is a great album track.

Littledidsheknow · 02/05/2024 15:24

Will have finished the playlist soon and will share... not share I have time to "zone" it today though, so you may find Led Zep next to Barry Manilow!
