Making a new 70s playlist for Spotify, but lacking inspiration. If I Google best songs from the 70s I just get lots of good big hits, which are not always, y’know, good music.

So far I have some Bowie, Led Zeppelin, The Jam, The Police, Cat Stevens, Fleetwood Mac, The Jacksons, Siouxsie, The Clash and others.
looking for good songs of all genres, forgotten gemsâ€Ļ even cheesy pop if it’s good.

What are your 70s favourites? 🙂

Up the Junction by Squeeze was the first record I bought & I still love it.
It was on lilac vinyl!
Brilliant song, great storytelling from the brilliant team of Difford & Tilbrook. Jools Holland was still in the band at that time too.
I loved Cool for Cats as well, so cool!
They were always so good on Top of the Pops.

Absolute classic !!

TeamPolin · 01/05/2024 08:43

I Want You Back - Jackson 5
Maggie May - Rod Stewart
Solsbury Hill - Peter Gabriel
Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty
Come Up And See Me - Steve Harley and the Cockney Rebel
Mr Blue Sky - ELO
Heart of Glass - Blondie
Any Bowie or Abba

It's going to be a cracking playlist

It's going to be a massive playlist. I may have to 'zone' it into rock, pop, soul, disco, punk, new wave and cheese!

I'll be pretty busy for the rest of today, so won't be done until tomorrow, but I'll definitely share it here from a free Spotify account 🙂

That's great service @Littledidsheknow . I do agree on zoning. I may be 66 now but when I was teen some of the tracks mentioned I absolutely hated and I can't shake that feeling off.
Whoever mentioned Led Zep's Kashmir I had forgotten that one. I had all the original Led Zep albums on vinyl. DS2 (26) now has my vinyl collection and is as happy listening to 70s music as current.

Boston ‘More than a Feeling’
I think Nirvana played the intro on stage once cos people were saying Teen Spirit intro was similar
Good old Kurt 🎸

Stevie Wonder!
Sir Duke
Superstition

Bogey M - Rasputin, Brown Girl in the Ring, Daddy Cool, Ma Baker, Rivers of Babylon

And who could forget Village People! YMCA and In the Navy.

Bogey M 😂
Brilliant.

The sound track to Saturday Night Fever (you can tell by the way I use my walk I'm a woman's man, no time to talk - just fantastic!)

Grease too.

and I know someone has already said this but
CUM ON FEEL THE NOIZE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you all so much for taking me right back to the 8 track in my dad's Ford Cortina. It's Weymouth, baking hot and 1976 in my head and I could not be happier.

Churchview · 01/05/2024 11:29

Parallel Line by Blondie - the whole album
Another Girl, Another Planet - The Only Ones
Oh Bondage! Up Yours - X-ray Spex
Destination Venus - The Rezillos

RenoDakota · 01/05/2024 11:38

Without You - Harry Nilsson

Angie Baby - Helen Reddy

I am Woman - Helen Reddy

From New York to LA - Patsy Gallant

Oh, I wish I had said these! All of them.
Angie Baby freaked me out but enthralled me too and led to a lifelong love of Helen Reddy. I used to go to Norwich library every Monday night with my dad (pre fire and re-build) and found and loved and borrowed, over and over again, everything by her from the music lending library.
Such happy memories, especially of my dear dad, who died in 1990.

When I Need You - Leo Sayer
Amoureuse - Kiki Dee (so fucking sexy - although as a 12 year old I didn't appreciate it!)
The Slade ballads - Everyday and How Does it Feel; surprisingly still good.

Oh I loved Amoureuse and I had completely forgotten about it - thank you for the reminder!

Littledidsheknow · 01/05/2024 16:07

Still working on it!

TheMarzipanDildo · 01/05/2024 20:31

I’m going through an unexpected Neil Sedaka phase at the moment Blush Laughter in the Rain and Love Will Keep us Together are both joyous imo.

It’s cool by virtue of being vintage.
