Making a new 70s playlist for Spotify, but lacking inspiration. If I Google best songs from the 70s I just get lots of good big hits, which are not always, y’know, good music.

So far I have some Bowie, Led Zeppelin, The Jam, The Police, Cat Stevens, Fleetwood Mac, The Jacksons, Siouxsie, The Clash and others.
looking for good songs of all genres, forgotten gemsâ€Ļ even cheesy pop if it’s good.

What are your 70s favourites? 🙂

Genesis were at their best in the 70s when Peter Gabriel was still in the group. The Carpet Crawlers is a great album track.

Yes they were!
I heard the very little played Carpet Crawlers on the radio about 10 years ago and went looking at early Genesis stuff with Peter Gabriel.

One of my husband's favourites, so it's quite often played here!

I really like Solsbury Hill - Peter Gabriel, after he left Genesis.

@Giggorata Many of my favourites there. First mention I've seen of King Crimson. I may have worn out Islands. I only found out recently that Robert Fripp is married to Toyah. We are the same age.
Manfred Mann, Blinded by the Light - listened to that while waiting for DH to pick me up for our first date.

It's true about listening to whole albums. In that way you had to listen to the less popular tracks which sometimes ended up as the best. There wasn't an option to do otherwise until tapes came in.

Gosh, that mention of albums has reminded me I should have mentioned my favourite album of all time, Blood on the Tracks (Bob Dylan). Every track is a masterpiece but my favourite is probably Tangled up in Blue, closely followed by A Simple Twist of Fate.

Joni M
Billy Joel
Carpenters

My husband would probably go for Idiot Wind!

Oh yes. We'll skate quickly over his fondness for very early Pink Floyd.

Littledidsheknow · 02/05/2024 17:54

Arnold Layne, the knicker nicker? Great stuff! Grin

Much as I love the 70s, the music of the 60s is absolutely fantastic. I expect you like early Fleetwood Mac as well - Green Manalishi? A number I have had inflicted on me enjoyed many a time and oft.
