For me it has to be sea glass. I often find some on the beach and stick it in my pocket then find it ages after.

A small tin of "emergency" teabags (in my handbag)
A picked up acorn or hazelnut in my pocket (for fiddling with)

Dearg · 29/04/2024 17:20

I also carry emergency teabags and poo bags.

But in my bag, I have a very small carved elephant charm which my mum gave to me for luck.

In my travel bag I have a Hallmark-ish Angel brooch which one of my friends or colleagues hid in it , at some point, when I used to travel a lot for work. I never found out who, but I still carry it in any suitcase or overnight bag I use.

A Smile stone, I'm not sure how widespread it is but locally people and kids paint stones and leave them in random places for people to find.

I was feeling rock bottom with depression and found a little stone painted blue with a heart on it, it was the day I'd booked an appointment to finally see a doctor and on that day I remember the happy feeling that finding the rock gave me and realising how long it had been since I felt that emotion.

At the moment, a massive knife. I took it to work about 3 weeks ago to cut up a cake I'd made and I keep forgetting to take it out...until now!

goes to retrieve knife from bag before anyone bollocks me

Half a dozen peppermints
A dog ball or two

Bits of dry leaves mostly. DD tends to collect leaves and other nature bits, and it's easier to put them in my pocket, where it's immediate forgotten about, then make her carry it and deal with a meltdown when she drops of brakes it.

9/10 times I remember to empty out the collection when we get home, but every now and then I put a coat on and find work old leaves.

AlisonDonut · 29/04/2024 17:43

I have a little tape measure on my key ring. Family laughed when I got it wondering why I'd need to carry a tape measure around, but it's come in handy lots of times when I see a mirror or something in B&M for example and want to know if it will fit in a space. Also superglue, always have a tube in my handbag for fixing a heel or whatever breaks while I'm out and about.

MillicentMaybe · 29/04/2024 17:46

The last poo bag and a wee dog treat for my beautiful, much loved and missed, girl’s last walk. Can’t bring myself to throw them out.

Conkers - every coat, jacket I own has at least one in a pocket. Also dog bags, and sachets of sugar or salt, as you never know when you might need it!

NetballHoop · 29/04/2024 18:45

A leaf. Every autumn I catch a falling leaf and keep it until the next autumn.

I was told it was lucky to catch a falling leaf as a child and have always made sure I do this.

HesterPrincess · 29/04/2024 18:47

Poo bags... they breed, I swear... and appear in every jacket/coat/bag I own.

Pocket hug - I got them for my grandkids and they got me one back for Christmas.
