Just curious really.

Buy a house

Ponderingwindow · 28/04/2024 20:13

Assuming it is mine to keep, I would move it over to my retirement savings.

Elephantswillnever · 28/04/2024 20:13

Wonder how much interest I can get till someone asks for it back?

reallyworriedjobhunter · 28/04/2024 20:14

Get my house decorated and buy a new sofa. Get the garden done. Then put the rest away.

Looking at my scruffy house day after day gets me so down.

LostittoBostik · 28/04/2024 20:15

Put half into a pension/retirement fund. Use the other half to cut back massively on work for a few years to focus on a project I have no time for now, and take a couple of amazing holiday.

Smartiepants79 · 28/04/2024 20:15

Pay off our mortgage.
Holiday, car
Rest put aside for the kids school fees and then savings.
Give a bit to my sister maybe.

Underthesea65 · 28/04/2024 20:15

Medical care for family members who are in desperate need

Betterifido · 28/04/2024 20:15

Pay off my mortgage, then keep the rest as savings, also book a few lovely holidays etc

JamSandle · 28/04/2024 20:15

Buy a home.

GMH1974 · 28/04/2024 20:16

Retire.

potatoschpotato · 28/04/2024 20:17

Resign! I know it's not really enough to retire on, but its enough to take a while off, reassess my life and work out what I really want to do.

Echoparkswan · 28/04/2024 20:17

I’d contact the bank because it would be dishonest to keep it and spend it.

Boatromance · 28/04/2024 20:17

Easy question it’s my ‘if I win the lottery’ dream! Clear mortgage, renovate parts of the house that need it, put £10k aside so we have a rainy day fund and invest the rest to supplement my crap pension pot so I don’t need to worry about retirement.

Noyoky · 28/04/2024 20:17

Give my children £100k each for house deposit,a few long haul holidays. Bank the rest.

NisekoWhistler · 28/04/2024 20:17

Google how long has to pass before it being found and you having to return the money.

soupfiend · 28/04/2024 20:17

Find out if there is an investment that would make it pay me an annual income equal to my current taxed income. If so, I would hand in my notice immediately

If not, find out what else I could do with it to reduce stress from work, lower paid job perhaps

If its not mine and I have to hand it back, I would go into a terminal depression

FrannieGallops · 28/04/2024 20:17

This has actually happened to us due to an inheritance. We paid off the mortgage (60k) and plan to give the rest to the kids when they’re ready to buy property.

Ted27 · 28/04/2024 20:23

Already sort of retired, no mortgage. Love my house and location, don't want to leave the area but neighbours are a pain.
So, pay the rest of my son's uni fees, £50k aside for him for house deposit. £50k to my mum so she can move to a nicer area.
Take my nearest and dearest on a fabulous holiday. With the rest either do some serious work on this hous, stay and carry on ignoring the neighbours or possibly move within the area.

BunInTheOven3 · 28/04/2024 20:23

It’s yours to keep! You can do whatever you like with it.

Pay off mortgage. Buy electric Mini Cooper. Go on safari to Botswana.

Oh ok, well then I need an investment that is likely to give me a 7% annual return, then I can live off it and not work

Not sure what that would be. I like low risk

Bluevelvetsofa · 28/04/2024 20:36

Downsize our house and sell the current one at leisure and when it’s sold, give some to the offspring and grandchildren and stop worrying about the cost of living.

supercalifragilistic123 · 28/04/2024 20:37

Sell our house and buy one of the new builds in our town. They look lovely, but God knows who can afford them... we're only half a mil short!

Bigredpants · 28/04/2024 20:37

Pay off mortgage and go part time until I retire . That would be half. Then a few K to charity. Then buy a beautiful ring. Then give it to my children.
