Just curious really.

OP posts:

Extension, pay off the mortgage and a small holiday

servedstraight · 28/04/2024 21:12

Pay off the mortgage
Refurb windows, doors, garden overhaul and a new bathroom plus decorate
New cars
Book a couple of holidays
invest the rest

IncompleteSenten · 28/04/2024 21:18

Panic.
Phone the bank.
Post on here for advice.

pointythings · 28/04/2024 21:20

4 way split between me and my 3 DC, so £125k each. Would be a decent house deposit for them and I'd upgrade my own house - solar panels, heat pump system, garden upgrade, new second hand car, new flooring and interior doors. My house is mine but it needs some TLC.

I’d contact the bank because it would be dishonest to keep it and spend it.

Not in the spirit of the site!

Finalise my divorce. Maybe via a hitman. We're stuck on the financials.

Cocothecoconut · 28/04/2024 21:22

Give some to the kids and buy buy a house near them

Maggie93 · 28/04/2024 21:22

Pay off the mortgage, do some home improvements, buy a new car and save the rest

curlycurlymoo · 28/04/2024 21:24

Pay my mortgage off. Have an extension. Go on holiday.

😂

pay off mortgage, buy a new car as one of ours is on its last legs, book some holidays, get a private dentist

SplendidRhododendronsDeirdre · 28/04/2024 21:25

Pay off DCs student loans
£100k each deposit for flats for DCs when they are 25
New electric/hybrid car
Hire a villa in Greece for 3 months and invite loads of friends over for odd weeks
3 week trip to Japan

dizzydizzydizzy · 28/04/2024 21:26

First off a holiday. A long one.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 28/04/2024 21:27

Wait for it to be taken back by whoever had made the mistake.

If by some miracle, it was actually legitimately mine? Start shopping for somewhere to live a long, long way from here.

GoodOldEmmaNess · 28/04/2024 21:27

Divorce and retire. Get a little house on my own. Just me and the dog. Live like Auntie Mabel in the children's TV show Come Outside. Would probably have enough for the spotty aeroplane.

HNY2023 · 28/04/2024 21:28

Retire !

Needmorelego · 28/04/2024 21:29

Buy a house. No mortgage. I want to walk into the estate agents with a briefcase full of notes and say "is cash ok?" 😂
(Actually I might have to use some of it to pay for a security guard to protect me and my briefcase.... also will need to purchase briefcase 🤔)

TheDefiant · 28/04/2024 21:29

Mine to keep?

Pay off mortgage
Decorate and extend

That would use half.

£50k each for the DC for the future so invested for now (and because we no longer have a mortgage payment I'd increase the amount we save monthly into their pensions).

£50k to buy a buy to let (which I'd let at bargain price to a woman escaping domestic abuse) obviously that wouldn't buy it outright but would be a decent chunk on a mortgage for a buy to let. I'd follow all the rules in Scotland and more. Would aim to be a "good landlord". Would work with local Women's Aid to set the home up and ask them to suggest women to live there. I have relevant links to this area.

£50k to help sister in law

£50k emergency fund

Drebara · 28/04/2024 21:31

Retire with half of it. Use other half to move house.

fungipie · 28/04/2024 21:33

1/4 for each of my boys, and 1/4 for us. New kitchen, new car and a nice holiday.

SnobblyBobbly · 28/04/2024 21:33

I'd buy a lovely holiday home for my family and put a load of it aside for the kids so they can travel/pay Uni fees and not have to work to live straight away.

I might also look into the latest cancer treatments as I have that, but think realistically that ship has sailed, so seems wiser invest in future happiness for my husband and kids and live as a legend!

NewName24 · 28/04/2024 21:34

Pay £100K of each of my adult dcs' mortgages.

Start looking at fantastic holidays.

MonkeyRum · 28/04/2024 21:34

Go for the most amazing Indian head massage and botox the utter fuck out of my face.

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 28/04/2024 21:35

Pay off the mortgage (£150k)
Save half (£250k)
awesome holiday this year (£10k)
Awesome holiday next year (£10k)
random frivolous shopping spree (£1k)

and then, I don’t know. I’ve got £80k left! How many cola bottles can you get for £80k?! 😂

maybe I’ll just go on fabulous holidays for a decade! As the kids get older they might not want to come on our fabulous holidays and it might go further.

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 28/04/2024 21:35

Go on Cameo and pay Ben Fogle to read out a message every day. I would have enough money to keep this going for 20 years. I would make the messages more and more bizarre and would like to see how long he'd keep going.

MichaelFlatulence · 28/04/2024 21:36
