My house is 13⁰.
It's not like I even live in the Scottish Highlands... I'm in the SE of England.
It's nearly May.
It's not fair <stamps foot petulantly>

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 25/04/2024 21:35

It would be around 30 years ago now, but I do remember once driving in a really major blizzard at the end of the Easter holidays - I was only going to buy some school summer uniform for dds.
This was in the SE, near Guildford.

IIRC the snow only lasted about 24 hours though.

abracadabra1980 · 25/04/2024 21:36

Sorry haven't read the whole thread, but I am always cold.

If you can stretch to this ... it's a game changer. And it's half price from Boots at the moment. I've not seen it under £100 before now/Black Friday last year.
So far there are 6 in our family as everyone who has tried mine is now addicted; bonus is we can knock the heating off almost completely 😁 and they only cost 5-6p per hour.

Thank me later 😜

likepebblesonabeach · 25/04/2024 21:40

Had to scrape the car yesterday morning, lovely blue sky but so cold.
My birthday is in June and I've had hailstones on it before, I am in Scotland though

Delatron · 25/04/2024 21:42

It’s also hard because we had a shit summer last year.

I am decamping to a warm country for a good 3 months at least every year when my kids leave home. Life is too short.

TheChosenTwo · 25/04/2024 21:43

We had to scrape the cars a couple of days ago (well not me but Dh and dd 😂), I got to stay wfh in the cosy house!
it’s just so dreary isn’t it, it’s not especially motivating me to go on my daily walks, I do still go but it’s not as nice when you have to totally bundle up.

And not much good having these lighter evenings if you can’t make the most of being outside 😭

LesLavandes · 25/04/2024 21:44

Hot water bottle, thick cardigan and wool duvet here. I'm in Brighton and it's so cold

WildBear · 25/04/2024 21:49

Haven't had the heating on in a good while. It was 16/17 degrees outside where am I in Ireland Saturday - Monday. Bit cooler since but it's back to the same again Thurs/Fri next week.

bluecomputerscreen · 25/04/2024 21:51

I'm not cold.
I'm in bed with winter duvet & warm throw & not one but 2 hot water bottles.

CatsLikeBoxes · 24/04/2024 21:19

@CrushingOnRubies I am very suspicious of your claim that it is warming up in Cornwall. I fear you have fallen victim to acclimatising to the eternal winter. According to the met office the high in Penzance today was meant to be 12⁰. And the forecast highs for the next 5 days are between 13⁰ tomorrow and 10⁰ on Friday!

That's tropical compared to where I am in North Yorkshire. It's not got much above 8 degrees all week. Looks like it's warming up a bit from Monday.

Oblomov24 · 26/04/2024 04:39

I've been cold in the last couple of days, the weather feels miserable and depressing.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 26/04/2024 05:03

Like the other lucky poster above, this thread makes me thank my lucky stars I emigrated. In fact it was weather like this that made me emigrate! It's a rather cool 27 degrees in Perth today ( I am not joking, there is a rather brisk breeze) but the sky is blue and that's good enough for me. You poor sods, I wish I could send you some sunshine!

Newestname002 · 26/04/2024 05:32

I've got this cold/cough/flu lurgy that's going around so I'm definitely feeling the cold more. I've just boosted the heating for 45mins to 20C as the air felt claggy and I can now breathe better (I'm asthmatic). I'm also layered up with about five layers of cotton, wool, fleece and feathers (gilet) plus three pairs of socks (wool, thin fleece and thick fleece) and my ankles are no longer blocks of ice. Plus a woolly hat! Duvet underneath me plus two lightweight quilts over me. 🌹

Tlolljs · 26/04/2024 05:52

I’m just here to apologise, I bought new garden furniture in the sale at the end of August last year. It’s been shit weather ever since. I don’t think I’ve sat on the fucking thing yet.
15 degrees in my house yesterday. I gave up and put the heating on.

stayathomer · 26/04/2024 06:01

In Ireland and we finally had sun for a week and then bam! Back wondering how much fuel we can get to summer with (thought we were getting to the end of having to put heating on). But then April is always a strange month weather wise!

bluecomputerscreen · 26/04/2024 06:31

it's my fault.

I scrubbed and oiled the food on the balcony...

VerbenaGirl · 26/04/2024 06:43

I’ve used my hot water bottle more this month than I have in the past three winters! It’s like the cold has really seeped into me.

Els1e · 26/04/2024 07:13

We’ve been having exact same conversation. It’s cold. 🥶There were a couple of warmer days and I started to peel off the layers. However, I’ve realised I was a bit hasty and they are going back on. The rain seems to have lessened off but I still expect it to be warmer for end of April. Someone told me we are going to have a heatwave this summer - cannot wait.

allhailtheeyeballsinthesky · 26/04/2024 07:40

I've woken up to snow this morning in south scotland, it is sunny though so it won't last

Lonelycrab · 26/04/2024 07:47

Getting pretty fed up with it now. 4 degrees here in the SE and looks like more or less the same pattern all weekend too.

I wouldn’t mind so much if it was cold and at least sunny, but the greyness is so depressing.

MrsBook · 26/04/2024 07:50

Got caught in a hail shower yesterday and this morning it's frosty again. I'm also fed up of the cold now.

So whenever it does get actually sunny and hot, I'm going to abandon all responsibility and lounge in the garden with ice cream and books and make the most of it without feeling guilty.

It's gotta happen soon, right?

Edited

Agreed! This is an amazing price, we have three in our house and they been invaluable. We paid a lot more for them because we bought at the height of the energy crisis.

bluecomputerscreen · 26/04/2024 08:17

I remember last year I had to wait to plant out veg plants until mid may as it was too cold.

Klingfilm · 26/04/2024 08:18

I bought rice pudding yesterday because I needed something warm and cosy... You wouldn't believe it was almost May.

GCAcademic · 26/04/2024 08:20

My windscreen was frosted up this morning.

MotherofPearl · 26/04/2024 08:22

Frost in the NW this morning.

I've noticed that lots of plants in my garden are way behind where they normally are at this time of year. The wisteria is always in full flower for my younger DD's birthday in very early May, but at the moment all the buds remain firmly closed.
