My house is 13⁰.
It's not like I even live in the Scottish Highlands... I'm in the SE of England.
It's nearly May.
It's not fair <stamps foot petulantly>

we’ve still got the heating on, it’s so cold

@feellikeanalien I don't know why but I thought we didn't have winter tyres in the UK?

I don't think people use them generally, particularly in urban areas, but we're out in the wilds of Northumberland and can have a lot of snow and ice. Although this year there hasn't been so much snow (much to DDs disappointment).

@IClaudine

sincere apologies about using the C (🎄) word.
It came up at work today when we were wondering if the arrival of May next week meant it would finally be warm!! A customer had told us it was 8 months til Christmas Eve and we all went 😱

It’s like spring used to be. Showery and a bit chilly. We’ve just become accustomed to warmer weather because in recent years we’ve had lots of heatwaves in March and April. The tulips are loving it this year because they’re not getting fried for a change.

No, I'm obsessed with weather and this hasn't happened for decades? Someone said the 80s? And it's not a "bit chilly"!

Tulips and daffs all flattened by constant windy weather.

I have a few winter coats that I change by degrees 😂 The biggest warmest one is the only one I've worn, bar two days, which seemed a very big mistake when walking back from the station in the late evening.

I'm also dreading winter and the C word already, it seems frighteningly close when it's nearly May and I still need hat and gloves.

I have officially packed in dieting today. I was going at a slow pace, lost a few pounds, but feel like it's been double winter with no treats (though when all I've lost is a few pounds, it seems pointless trying).

Xiaoxiong · 24/04/2024 23:02

Berkshire 4c at 11pm tonight, going down to 1c overnight is cold even for winter let alone the end of April.

My kids are in summer uniform and it is forecast to be 1c when we go on the school run at 7.45am tomorrow morning.

Caswallonthefox · 24/04/2024 23:17

It used to heat up around the second week in May and then go cold at the beginning of July.
I took off my window coverings when it started warming up. Now I'm sat under a home knitted blanket with a heater on

Dweetfidilove · 24/04/2024 23:28

Just had to leave the electric blanket to collect my daughter from the school outing. I almost told her to just go home with whichever teacher would have her - 6 blooming degrees 😒.

Lysianthus · 24/04/2024 23:39

SE too. 14 deg inside but I won't put the heating because it's nearly May !!

CatsLikeBoxes · 25/04/2024 05:38

It's 12⁰ indoors this morning, which is only 3⁰ higher than the coldest it got inside all winter 🥶 ❄️ 🥶

Can I just say THANK FUCK I'm going to the Canaries for a week next weekend. If this shitty cold weather is still here when I get back I'll be having serious words with someone!

Whinge · 25/04/2024 07:21

Another day another jumper. 🥶

SabreIsMyFave · 25/04/2024 13:38

I know it's still only spring/only April and yes it can be quite chilly in April. (I attended half a dozen April weddings in the 1980s and 1990s, and it was a windchill of 2 to 4 degrees C for some of them!!! And not much warmer than 10 or 11 for the others.) It's just as someone said, we have had a few nice/warm Springs this past 5-6 years, and so this feel brutal now.

ALSO, it's just been relentless really - since probably the first week in October. It feels like we've had 6 months of rain and cold weather (with perhaps maybe 10 to 12 days - in six months - where it's been more than pleasant and warm.)

We are currently getting like, one to two days of nice weather, and then eight days of terrible weather ... SO many people complaining can't be wrong. I do believe it's getting warmer and nicer this weekend though, so fingers crossed!

CatsLikeBoxes · 25/04/2024 18:32

@SabreIsMyFave I think you're right, it's the relentlessness. We've had hardly any dry days for months and now even if it's dry it's cold! It's currently raining again, I've got a big blanket on and here it doesn't get warmer til Monday (16⁰!)

Snackpocket · 25/04/2024 18:39

Yep totally fed up with this too. I really feel the cold, I need to feel some warmth on my skin!

GladysOhli · 25/04/2024 18:44

I was listening to Shagged Married Annoyed and Rosie said her mum has started having a sun bed session "just to feel warm". I get it. I really do. I won't use one but I may go for a sauna at the gym fully clothed. I am SICK of it

AlwaysFreezing · 25/04/2024 18:53

It's shit.

I hate it.

See username.

disTrusstInLiz · 25/04/2024 19:05

It’s always still cold in April though. This was last years April temps in London - similar to this year

I'm so cooollllldddd
LindorDoubleChoc · 25/04/2024 19:28

We had terrible weather all year last year too, in case anyone needs reminding.

In 2011 we had so much warm weather that my Dad's vegetable garden was all planted up and in full bloom so much so that it needed watering in the week before he died on 2nd May.

I was out in my own garden most of the time in the few weeks leading up to his death.

LindorDoubleChoc · 25/04/2024 19:33

Had the day off work today. I put the fan heater on in the bathroom when I had a shower this morning. By 3pm this afternoon I was feeling really cold and wanting the heating on. Instead I went out in my warm wool winter coat and scarf with umbrella to run some errands. Needed my umbrella big time! Got home at 5 and put the heating on and shoved some washing in the tumble drier. FML.

I'm not a fan of high summer temperatures and the flies and sunburn and sleepless nights and food rotting and everything else that goes with it. But, come on!

CatsLikeBoxes · 25/04/2024 20:06

@disTrusstInLiz last year was horrible too though! It rained until May then we had some hot weather which ended as soon as the summer holidays started in England (Scotland might have been luckier) then we had some hot weather in September after schools went back before the rain began!
I think by now I just expect to have had at least 1 summery week, and to have shrugged off the pasty paleness of winter!

disTrusstInLiz · 25/04/2024 20:52

I’m pretty sure 2018 was the last time we had an excellent summer 😭

Lockdown 2020 was also good. I remember a number of socially distanced rosé’s in parks

CatsLikeBoxes · 25/04/2024 20:58

Oh yes, April and/or May 2020 was lovely.
I was just reading how we are stuck with northerly winds, hence the particularly chilly weather - London would normally be around 15 now apparently - and other countries are suffering too

I'm so sorry, it's all my fault. 😔
I bought a cooling blanket last week in readiness for the warm weather, and it's been shite ever since.
Apologies again. 😢

You bought whaaatttt???

i must admit, I did get my summer clothes out a couple of weeks ago ** laughs hysterically at her own hopeless optimism….

But here I am again, another spring evening as a sex- goddess;
wearing socks, T-shirt, hoodie, hot water bottle, blanket and dopey dog ( not that dopey, is double-coated)
It’s almost bloody May, and yet another freezing day has gone by!
I could see my own breath at 11am this morning - obvs before we ran away from the rain and the vicious hailstorm that appeared from nowhere 🤷‍♀️
When will it end😱
