Is he on some kind of kamikaze mission? He must know this isn't going to happen!

I'm remembering that Faisal Islam thread again....think it might have been on the money

I hope the Lords keep their principles

Quick check in.

All primed to talk about white privilege in a lesson today.

And then fit notes.

Woke woke woke.

I was going to say something heavily sarcastic but even with the sarcasm I can't bring myself to write the utter tripe.

Thank you for continuing to teach our children the important stuff even in the face of outright hostility and undermining by certain sectors Flowers

I may be getting confused here but the we’ll sit as long as it takes to pass the bill tonight isn’t true is it? If the commons don’t agree to the Lords amendments it goes back to the Lords doesn’t it. And I’ve seen nothing that suggests the Lords are willing to drop the amendments.

I think Sunak will have to blink first.
If he agrees to an exception for Afgan interpreters, he might get the rest through, but at this point I am not sure how attached to all their ammendments some of the cross-benchers have become.

AdamRyan · 22/04/2024 11:12

They seem quite attached to the one where Rwanda have to show they've implemented the treaty that makes them "safe". Might be quite hard to get round that one with no action.

RafaistheKingofClay · 22/04/2024 11:16

According to Rishi there are going to be multiple flights every month until the boats are stopped. Not sure he’s agreed that with Rwanda.

Unless we are putting 1 asylum seeker on each flight until we get to 100.

Yes. It doesn't stop. You just get some very tired people

RafaistheKingofClay · 22/04/2024 11:19

That’s what I thought. Should have just assumed Rishi was lying.

Man has no political nous. Who engineers a confrontation with a group of people who have nothing to lose except a nights sleep? They have done all the tough stuff and can no longer be given trinkets to behave. They got the bloody trinkets already by sitting in the Lords.

What gold plated paltroon Sunak is

Its because Sunak believes adamantly in the abolition of the House of Lords and that our leaders should be elected on merit. You can be sure it will be in the next manifesto he stands on.

Today 1 in 6 available Crown Courts
shut
we don’t have enough judges
Human cost:
Only last Friday a large regional Crown Court told all parties a “fixture will be broken” due today
Not just any last minute hearing postponement
It’s a trial for
“long-ago-fixed 3-handed murder”

“we are informed the fixture will be broken because there is no judge to try it and on the face of it no court either. Witnesses, defendants, solicitors, Counsel etc., as we all know are irrelevant…”

Totally off topic but these sorts of delays are just terrible for all involved.

And I see the Times is running an article about law and order breaking down - much of it blaming the police. But they do acknowledge that if charge rates increase the courts can't cope and our prisons are already full.

Criminal justice budgets are not protected. We lost 20,000 experienced officers during austerity and cut administrative staff (whilst increasing admin needs).

It ends with the line "If you go out on a blue-light response shift, in most forces now the majority of officers will have less than 3 years experience. It feels incredibly fragile."

But to make Rwanda happen -

"• 25 courtrooms & 150 judges available to deal with legal challenges"

A very sensible use of court time. It's not as if waiting times to bring cases to court is a problem. Oh no wait, I must be thinking of last century.

pointythings · 22/04/2024 11:41

@Lion400 sadly I suspect this is legal and will go ahead. Drax isn't one of the old school Tories who had a conscience and some morals.

Crown Court case backlog is 65,000.

What lunatic judge would destroy their career for Rishi Sunak's half baked dreams? Absolutely none I would suggest

He might find they’re all busy washing their wigs.

mibbelucieachwell · 22/04/2024 12:00

I can't remember which radio program had a piece about the court backlogs recently, but the legal expert was saying it's so bad it's affecting the outcome of trials as people even defendants can't remember things in such clear detail.
