And this for any UK MP who supports Trump

(it's from the Time and was posted on the Trump thread)

Remind me again what happened to Caesar. And more pertinently (and sadly) what happened to Rome afterwards ?

DH says polls currently have both Tory mayors ahead in the Thursday vote. Say it ain't so!

MrsMurphyIWish · 30/04/2024 16:44

IClaudine · 30/04/2024 16:32

West Midlands too close to call. Tees Valley looks likely to remain Tory.

https://yougov.co.uk/politics/articles/49269-west-midlands-and-tees-valley-mayoral-voting-intention

If the Tories hold on to both they will be very much shouting about it.☹️

One West Midlanders here that won’t vote for Street but I acknowledge I’m in the minority. They love him round my way!

Evenstar · 30/04/2024 17:02

Labour have already said that they will be instructing the National Audit Office to investigate the Teesworks scandal, I imagine any re-election for Ben Houchen may be short lived as an NAO investigation is not likely to be as kind to him as the report his friend Gove received.

DuncinToffee · 30/04/2024 17:03

They might cling on but it will be because both Street and Houchen are publicly distancing themselves from Sunak

For those of you who know your cricket in a really really surreal turn of events, Monty Panesar is standing for George Galloway's party at the next election.

In a personally surreal turn of events DH personally knows Monty who is a very lovely person - but really not for politics.

His views appear to be -ermmm- somewhat unformulated.

IClaudine · 30/04/2024 17:15

Where is he standing, piggy?

bombastix · 30/04/2024 17:20

Well I've met a lot of politicians and would say that being lovely is a positive disqualification for success

IClaudine · 30/04/2024 17:21

Ah, just read it is Southall.

Piggywaspushed · 30/04/2024 17:24

Yes, I mean it's rank opportunism of Galloway to find a much beloved Sikh personality to stand in Southall. But he won't win.

Streets blurb doesn't mention the Conservative party anywhere. You'd think he'd started a new party from the tone.

Latest yougov does suggest that. I was too disappointed to share it when I found it earlier!

Edited to add, or more accurately too close to call.

BIossomtoes · 30/04/2024 17:56

Street might as well be standing as an independent now.

@MrTumbleForPM another one who read your post & had a little cry & how wonderful those young people are💐
im sorry I can’t remember the posters names, who wrote about the experience of receiving fsm shameful that children should be treated in such a way💐

RafaistheKingofClay · 30/04/2024 16:09

All of Sunak’s posts on the NI cut and one on the PIP changes have been community noted. Someone out there is doing good work.

They really are hoping it helps keep a check with continual merry-go-round of outright lies/barefaced lies/smaller lies etc etc
what’s that phrase something along the lines of lies, damned lies & statistics.

Notonthestairs · 30/04/2024 18:35

Not in the least bit surprised that the Conservatives are still welcoming donations from Frank Hester.

But good to have the reminder that we can say anything, no matter how repellent, provided we privately apologise to our preferred political party.

Shame we can't community note all the posters on MN gleefully anticipating the suffering Sunak's PIP proposals would cause.

Some of them are particularly cheering on the vouchers idea.

I have had to hide all the threads.

dontcallmelen · 30/04/2024 19:13

Me too, such spitefulness & appalling attitudes on some of those threads.

DuncinToffee · 30/04/2024 19:18

I am using advanced search a lot these days

It is a lot of red meat for DM and Telegraph readers and even then I wonder whether they really agree.

Overall Labour are ahead on every major policy area and with each voting group except pensioners. And the pensioners are wobbling!
