Re: SNP meltdown..

I can't help thinking that Ash Regan must be regretting flouncing to alba right about now...?

RafaistheKingofClay · 29/04/2024 19:14

Certainly in primary schools a lot use online payment systems so it’s less obvious. But I think a lot of schools are more aware now. I know we used to issue everyone with a voucher. It’s just that some paid for the voucher and some didn’t.

IClaudine · 29/04/2024 19:22

@MrTumbleForPM that is a lovely post, thank you.

I started to read the green paper but had to stop as it was making me feel anxious. I keep working out in my head what we would do if DH lost his PIP. I know it won't happen, but...

I am lucky to be mentally in good health, but I still feel sick and worried. I can't imagine what those less lucky are going through right now.It could push some over the edge.

Notonthestairs · 29/04/2024 19:31

That's a fab post MrTumbles - I heartedly agree with your sentiments.

I'm just catching up on today's events. Heavens this performative cruelty is filling me with weariness.

I know it's a pre election burst of nastiness for short term gain. But how on earth can we can stagger on like this?

Having attempted (and failed) to claim DLA for my mental health, I can’t imagine that anybody who has managed it can be sorted with a bit of talking therapy.

And I’m certain that anyone who thinks this is a good idea has never had the misfortune of having to deal with the DWP or ATOS.

itsgettingweird · 29/04/2024 19:37

Well said MrTumble

I have a disabled ds with a physical disability. He swims with a national squad at training because they focus on what they can do to adapt it for him. The other swimmers move around the lane and him if they need to but also where he's stronger than them (pull) they it him at front.

There's lots he can do. But that doesn't mean those equates to funding what he can't will disappear just because we focus on that.

Although apparently (according to ds) they have also said those (like him) with degenerative conditions won't have to keep having assessments every 3 years once they hit enhanced payments for both categories?

BIossomtoes · 29/04/2024 19:37

Thank you so much @MrTumbleForPM. It gives me hope for the future.

fabio12 · 29/04/2024 20:02

I understand the far right in the Tories he is trying to placate (misguidedly if he wants to win an election) but surely in UK disabilities and PIP claimants come from all walks of life. It's hardly just Labour voters claiming, is it?
I assume a fair amount of NF and other lovely deviants to the right of wrong smoked, were reckless in youth, caught long covid and we can all see evidence of MH issues - lots of reasons they'd be candidates to claim PIP. Are we assuming these are who are making up most of Reform's numbers?

RafaistheKingofClay · 29/04/2024 20:04

That’s why it’s a huge miscalculation on their part, Fabio.

fabio12 · 29/04/2024 20:06

Exactly, but how can they not understand that?
Would love to know what Reform plans to do with benefits. Do they actually have any policies?

That already happens. Last time DH was assessed the decision letter said he would be reassessed in 10 years.

My DS has a 9 year award. He won't get better, only worse.

I'm sorry Pointythings. 💐Same for my DH. Not easy, is it?

@MrTumbleForPM I'm also a longtime lurker, your post gave me dust in my eyes...well done to your cubs 😍

It’s a bit of a mystery. But they still seem to think that chasing the reform vote is the way forwards.

user8800 · 29/04/2024 21:13

My ds predicts a traditional/right wing nutter split of the tory party

So farage, braverman, Anderson and Patel on the far right and Cameron heading up the "traditional" tories (there is precedent for a Lord to be PM)

It's the only logical way this mess in the party plays out

Reform/ukip/reclaim won't win any seats as things stand (ukip got nearly 13% of the vote in 2019, but no seats...), but they will cost the tories votes (hence the recent rush to announce policies that punish the weak and vulnerable and imprison asylum seekers)

Lib dems may do well in the leafy shires and university towns

SNP imploding can only be good for labour

He predicts a complete switch in HofC with labour on 360

🤷‍♀️

Oh dear. The government can only locate 38% of the migrants it intends to send to Rwanda.

Who could have seen that coming given they’d already admitted losing loads.

Prime Minister should ‘do a major reshuffle to bring in all sides of the party

And that is 38% of goodness knows what to start with!
Handy the round ups were leaked the night before huh? Now they look like people have done a runner rather than them having no idea who is where.

RafaistheKingofClay · 29/04/2024 23:18

That thought had crossed my mind.

Checks on food, plants/flowers, animals start today, £5000 per consignment if using the Govt run facility, far cheaper industry checkpoints nearer the "border" will shut at 7pm... so no overnight deliveries to shops etc...

R4's Farming Today was depressing.

So less choice, higher prices.

You know what?
some voters will lap this voucher idea up :(
I was an fsm kid. We had to carry a blue paper passes to present in the dinner queue to get our food.
I'm sure most of you can imagine the bullying that caused.
Not to mention the attitude of some of the dinner staff.
And people - including teachers - were fine with it. Didn't see an issue.
I started going home for "lunch" I went hungry rather than deal with the bullying.
It was the early 1980s. Thatcherism full horrific swing.
I had hoped that my kids would grow up in a fairer, more compassionate society.
😡

As a lurker, I too had to post - especially in response to this.

I was a FSM child in the 80s too. We had to go in for food last as the paying children deserved the “best” food. Sometimes, we just didn’t eat as there wasn’t any food left and as I wasn’t fed at home I could days without eating.

I teach and although it’s all electronic payments through ParentPay, there are stickers on the food that the FSM are allowed to have. My school says it’s to stop kids purchasing crap like chips everyday (stickered food is a baguette, fruit and non flavoured water). I can understand that to some extent but also it still screams “you’re poor”.

I am impressed they have managed to find 38% of them, probably those 38% are the most traumatised and in need of our help, which is why they haven't disappeared. Likely all of the small number that are more economic migrant than asylum seeker are among the disappeared.
