These are from online catalogues. The kids look swamped in these!

I hate any kind of baby decor like this!

Cheshiresun · 22/04/2024 00:07

No. Can't stand them.

StandingOvulation · 22/04/2024 00:08

How else will people know they're girls? Confused

To me they look gift-wrapped, but as long as they're not dangerous I don't really care. Most babies would look cute with a cowpat balanced on their head (and the ones that aren't cute are beyond the help of bows Grin)

RogueFemale · 22/04/2024 00:12

I really loathe the baby headbands.

Haggisfish3 · 22/04/2024 00:17

I think they look awful.

Keeprejoining · 22/04/2024 00:19

they make their parents happy, what not to like. Would you prefer sackcloth and ashes

LenaLamont · 22/04/2024 00:20

They scream “we had a baby girl! Not a boy, a girl!”

caringcarer · 22/04/2024 00:21

I think they look ridiculous.

TheShellBeach · 22/04/2024 00:21

Utterly grim

Groovy48592747 · 22/04/2024 00:21

Hideous. Certain types of parents where I am put these on their babies, it does them no favours.

SnowFrogJelly · 22/04/2024 00:26

No

Poppins2016 · 22/04/2024 00:28

I've met people who believe their babies don't look like girls without a headband similar to these... despite obviously feminine outfits.

Personally, they're not to my taste and I do think they look a bit over the top. I'm also surprised they stay on (given that my two boys constantly took their hats off)! I'm currently expecting a baby girl and won't be dressing her in anything like this...

StrikeItMucky · 22/04/2024 00:30

No. I think they're utterly hideous!

TheFormidableMrsC · 22/04/2024 00:32

No they're awful and I've never understood why anybody would do that. Just stop it. Same for baby ear piercing.

SwordToFlamethrower · 22/04/2024 00:32

Never known a baby to keep one on for more than 0.5 seconds

LightDrizzle · 22/04/2024 00:32

I put these in the same bracket as stiff designer denim on baby boys, designer trainers on babies who can’t even walk, and designer clothes with logos on them. Just awful.

Thevelvelletes · 22/04/2024 00:32

Hideous... poor kids having that forced upon them.

DrJoanAllenby · 22/04/2024 00:34

The four letter word beginning with C.

Also includes an H, A and V.

TextureSeeker · 22/04/2024 00:35

My children we both blessed with an abundance of hair from birth so their heads were adorned enough for me. Funnily enough people presumed they were both girls even though I had one of each because of the presence of hair.i wonder is there a 'thing' people use to signify that hairy boys are in fact boys like the bow is used to signify bald girls are girls?

bananaboats · 22/04/2024 00:36

Dreadful

butterflywingss · 22/04/2024 00:37

I think they are cute as long as it's not taking over their head lol. My daughter never liked them so I never bothered too much.

Babyroobs · 22/04/2024 00:37

Horrible.

Looksgood · 22/04/2024 00:54

It's a matter of taste whether anything looks cute or not.

Quite a lot of people see accessories on babies as a class signifier. That's because any attempt to signal through material objects that this baby is loved and provided for is less important to people who are more secure financially. So some may reject these headbands to preserve their own social status, or as a reaction to the fact that people like them or around them don't use them.

Some people don't like gendered clothes or accessories on small children.

Some use headbands to flatten children's ears.

You'll probably get more people disliking them on Mumsnet then liking them. I have no kids to put them on. But I do think they're cute. I even have a rationale. We are evolutionarily driven to protect small big-headed big-eyed things like babies. Stick a giant bow on them and they look even cuter (for evolutionary purposes).

So I find them cute, but tastes differ.

Stigglet · 22/04/2024 01:12

Dangerous imo. The band can end up around the baby’s face or neck. It’s a pretty stupid thing to put on a baby. Fashion over safety.
