These are from online catalogues. The kids look swamped in these!

Well it’s a bit like how you don’t get cords through hoods for very small children…did you read my post about dealing with a baby dying directly because of these ridiculous things?

Who’s batshit now?

I actually think it is awful the way you have used this tragedy.

No way could anyone have foreseen that happening and all sorts of items of clothing, teddies, nappy sacks have been the cause of tragic and unforeseen deaths. Terrible things do occasionally happen. Headbands I can take or leave: we had a couple as part of outfits given to us when we had DD and they never stayed on but if something terrible had happened, what, my own fault for having such terrible taste? Horrible posts.

Noyok · 22/04/2024 09:30

Tacky and a huge choking risk .

platypusweek · 22/04/2024 09:31

I love them. I think they're adorable. Same reason I sometimes put bunny ears on my baby. Adorable.
Also baby turbans as little soft hat. So cute.
I refuse to change my opinion.
Sometimes it's joyful little things that make people happy. Tiny headwear of any kind is one of those things.

The second photo looks like she's waiting for me to cross her palm with silver!

notanothernana · 22/04/2024 09:39

Been looking chav and tacky since the late 90s 🤢

USED it?.. I fucking dealt with it…if that reality is too harsh for you, then think on

Toooldforthis36 · 22/04/2024 09:41

Awful

AnneLovesGilbert · 22/04/2024 09:45

Gift wrapped 😂😂😂 That’s brilliant. Also Easter eggs.

I don’t like them but I’ve just remembered my usually very sensible sister getting her children ready for an event and suddenly screeching “where’s the white head band?! Not that one, she needs the white one or her outfit is ruined!!!!” The baby was 3 months old. I think my mum may have hidden it tbh and my sister got over it.

PenelopeTitsdrop1990 · 22/04/2024 09:47

Chavtastic!! 🤦🙄

Why would the reality be too harsh for me? I just think it’s a really cheap shot to use someone else’s tragedy in this way. I really do.

notacooldad · 22/04/2024 09:50

Not what I would do but each to their own.

Sharontheodopolodous · 22/04/2024 10:03

I remember seeing these on babies in the mid 90's and thinking they looked daft
Roll on late 90's and I have baby dd
Every bloody outfit my mother bought her was dress, nappy pants and hairband
She went mental that I refused the bands-they where all thin, tight and tacky
It's one of a few things I stood firm on-no hairbands,no christening and no Terry towelling nappies
She's 26 now and has told me she's glad I didn't put her in them as they look awful

Cheap shot? I fucking despair

What, even tiny headwear that is a strangulation risk like these godawful things are?

Jewelanemone · 22/04/2024 10:14

They look like Easter eggs.

ViciousCurrentBun · 22/04/2024 10:15

I would worry about a sleeping baby getting one caught round its neck. I do like little pull on beanie hats with ears.

As far as I know, in all the time baby headbands have been a ‘thing’ there has been one tragedy, which must be heartbreaking for the poor parents.

How many fatalities in the last thirty years have there been with babies and dogs? Cars? Bath seats, other toys, nappy sacks have caused deaths too.

It’s fine to not like them. It’s also fine to raise awareness that they could be dangerous. What is not fine is using a dislike of how they look to berate people for being ‘unsafe.’ That incident seems to be a very one off horrendous accident.

TheTigerWhoCameToEatMyHusband · 22/04/2024 10:20

I think it makes them look like dot cotton.

IAmGrey · 22/04/2024 10:24

It's a no from me too. It's the same women generally I used to see on the school run who would spend a ridiculous amount on a pram and pierce a baby's ears.

TeabySea · 22/04/2024 10:30

Stigglet · 22/04/2024 01:12

Dangerous imo. The band can end up around the baby’s face or neck. It’s a pretty stupid thing to put on a baby. Fashion over safety.

Yes, exactly.
They do seem to be used to signal "girl baby". That said, I'm not a fan of bows and ruffles on anyone, of any age.

FrannieGallops · 22/04/2024 10:32

They are truly hideous. Any kind of mimsy bow on a baby’s head looks utterly revolting.

DirtyDensDog · 22/04/2024 10:35

No I'm not a fan but each to their own I guess.

Remember the JoJo bow craze a few years back 😁

platypusweek · 22/04/2024 10:37

@johntorodesfatcheeks the second one looks a bit tight so I would be worried that it could be uncomfortable. The first one is a hat with a bow on the front. Are you saying the hat is a strangulation risk? Babies should not wear hats?
Babies don't sleep in these and babies are to be kept in view at all times, even during daytime naps if they were to accidentally fall asleep.
I really don't think these are the strangulation risks you make them out to be.
You might dislike how they look but really, I can't see how they are more dangerous than other things babies routinely do and wear.

Nubnut · 22/04/2024 10:38

butterflywingss · 22/04/2024 00:37

I think they are cute as long as it's not taking over their head lol. My daughter never liked them so I never bothered too much.

But in what universe would any baby like them? Surely you have to be at least three to “enjoy” wearing anything in particular?

mewkins · 22/04/2024 10:40

My dd has almost completely bald until she was two. The number of people asking what his name was was huge! If I'd have used one of these headbands maybe they'd have asked why the little boy was wearing a big pink bow 😁.
