These are from online catalogues. The kids look swamped in these!

I would be tempted to say, "Ah it's good that you aren't reforming to stereotypes with your baby boy"

Mumaway · 22/04/2024 07:32

I think they look a bit cheap and nasty. Babies are cute, they don't need accessories

NoSnowdrop · 22/04/2024 07:39

Have always hated them. The sad story above is awful, I couldn’t bear to see these on a baby even more so now.

I have a friend who works in child development who constantly tells people not to buy them/use them as they are a choking/strangulation risk. She doesn’t understand why they aren’t banned.

I think if you are putting something dangerous or even just uncomfortable on your child in order to look ‘cute’ you need to give you head a serious wobble.

DD had loads of hair and also lots of white clothing when she was born - everyone asked if she was a boy. It’s very odd.

Tumbleweed101 · 22/04/2024 07:47

I'm not keen on them. Tight jeans on babies are another of my dislikes. Anything basically that doesn't look comfortable for them. Most babies I know pull off clips, hairbands, hats etc very quickly.

Dangerous and inappropriate

I'm surprised they are still legal

They look silly, yes, but christ do you really want laws against such things?!

What else would you like laws against? I'd love to know.

Batshit.

PurpleChrayn · 22/04/2024 08:15

Awful.

I don't know how they stay on. My daughter would have ripped it off immediately.

I've met people who believe their babies don't look like girls without a headband similar to these... despite obviously feminine outfits.

Personally, they're not to my taste and I do think they look a bit over the top. I'm also surprised they stay on (given that my two boys constantly took their hats off)! I'm currently expecting a baby girl and won't be dressing her in anything like this...

Totally.

Many times my baby girl was mistaken for a boy because she didn't wear one of these and often wore colours other to a pink. It's really not a big deal. I just corrected them. Now my baby son gets mistaken for a girl because he has golden curls. Again, not an issue. "Actually he's a boy." Job done. No need for tacky semiotic markers of girlness or boyness.

Tadpole10 · 22/04/2024 08:19

I know someone who puts one on her baby all the time, but not big soft ones like your pic, thin tight elastic bands with a small bow. It makes me worried the baby will end up with a line indented round her head. My DS got a flat head on one side just from lying in his cot so I would be terrified to do anything that would put pressure on a baby's skull. Aesthetically I also hate the baby bows.

Well it’s a bit like how you don’t get cords through hoods for very small children…did you read my post about dealing with a baby dying directly because of these ridiculous things?

Who’s batshit now?

Els1e · 22/04/2024 08:31

No, look awful and a potential hazard.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 22/04/2024 08:34

Aren't they rather like those Mickey Mouse car aerial attachments?

So you can more easily identify your baby when there's a big heap of them?

MrsSkylerWhite · 22/04/2024 08:35

Just daft. It’s a baby, not a parcel.

Flopsy145 · 22/04/2024 08:40

I knew what the picture was going to be before I even opened the thread 😂 I'm not a fan tbh, babies should be in comfy and practical things, the only thing on a head that is both of those is a comfy hat. And a small clip when they have hair in their face

UnravellingTheWorld · 22/04/2024 08:54

They are VILE. I feel so sorry for the poor babies getting their little ears squished like that

KittyCollar · 22/04/2024 08:57

No. Awful. Poor kids

KittyCollar · 22/04/2024 08:58

Bit like getting their ears pierced. Just no

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 22/04/2024 09:01

No they are completely hideous.

Babies are cute - head ornaments are not

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 22/04/2024 09:04

I've met people who believe their babies don't look like girls without a headband similar to these... despite obviously feminine outfits.

Why does this matter?
Why do they need "obviously feminine" outfits?

Baffled.

RampantIvy · 22/04/2024 09:06

DD had loads of hair and would have be never kept anything on her head as it would have slipped off.

I'm not a fan, but each to their own. It isn't something I feel particularly strongly about.

lol I’ve never left my baby in a scenario where she was with a “heap of them”!plus they do look different so I can tell which is my baby without a great big dangerous bow on her head 🤣🤣

RampantIvy · 22/04/2024 09:18

That is my main concern @LordPercyPercy

We have a law about the cords on window blinds to stop babies being strangled to death. This poses the same risk. Not so batshit, really.

PracticallyPerfectedIt · 22/04/2024 09:23

I don't really mind them to be honest, but the MN consensus is ALWAYS that they are hideous and tacky (along with loads of other perfectly normal inoffensive things).
