The head of the Home Office has admitted that officials got the figures "so, so wrong" on how much it would cost to convert military barracks into asylum accommodation

Wethersfield and Scampton were assessed to cost £5m each to set up. It was actually £49m and £27m respectively

There is a thread (I started) about where can you get jobs like this ...

I've tried to get this for a couple of years through the ballot. Crossing fingers for this year. I want to see Larry.

Larry does not seem to make as many appearances in front of the camera as he used to. I assume because he is more sensible than anyone else who walks in and out of the number 10 door.

I think Larry's getting on a bit now. Might be 15-16 years old? This is a photo from after President of Rwanda's visit to no 10 last week so he's still out and about 😊.

The House of Commons votes by 320 to 246 to overturn an amendment which would have stopped victims of modern slavery from being deported to Rwanda

L1ttledrummergirl · 15/04/2024 22:21

BBC news are just showing s clip of an interview with Liz Truss.

She's off her fricking rocker- no accountability there!

Although she did say she's not saying she's perfect...Grin

IClaudine · 15/04/2024 22:21

Also:

MPs have voted 312 to 253 - a majority of 59 - to reject the Lords amendment 10B.

The amendment was aimed at exempting Afghan staff who worked alongside the British from the Rwanda scheme.

L1ttledrummergirl · 15/04/2024 22:21

@DuncinToffee they are absolutely the scum of the earth.

Heavenssakes · 15/04/2024 22:22

Disgusting.
I hope every individual who voted in favour of thid is haunted by it every time they close their eyes to sleep.

Iain Dale on LBC did a really long interview with her tonight - is that where the clip was from?

I don't know why he did that. She is a has-been. Very odd.

I don't understand why they would reject those amendments.

Do they really^^ think victims of modern slavery should be sent to Rwanda?

Do they really think Afghans that supported our servicemen and women should be sent to Rwanda?

(Particularly given the dreadful mess they made of both the evacuation from Afghanistan and the schemes supposedly intended to help get them here.)

I just don't understand their reasoning.

It is possible there isn't any reasoning to understand?

I can only find the votes on "Rwanda Bill: Motion to disagree with Lords Amendment 1B*

Sunak, Braverman, Jenrick didn't have a vote recorded

https://votes.parliament.uk/votes/commons/division/1781#notrecorded

IClaudine · 15/04/2024 22:32

It is very difficult to understand @Notonthestairs . I suppose they are trying to claw back votes from Reform UK, but they must know that they are going to lose the GE now, whatever they do.

Horrible, horrible people.

I found the info about amendment 10B here:

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/04/15/rishi-sunak-david-cameron-downing-street-general-election/

Notonthestairs · 15/04/2024 22:35

It just leaves them - and the UK - looking so small and shabby.

IClaudine · 15/04/2024 22:37

Here is the voting detail

https://votes.parliament.uk/votes/commons/division/1786

ETA: Sunak had no vote recorded along with 30 other Tories, including Braverman! He didn't vote in 1B either.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jenrick & Braverman didn't vote - they both know the scheme is batshit and will fail so are trying to distance themselves.

All the better for leading the charge against the ECHR and being crowned leader.

Edited

Even the DUP voted no

Buckland the only Tory

IClaudine · 15/04/2024 22:47

Loads of Labour MPs had no vote recorded too. Did they just not bother turning up? Why?

Probably to do with pairing?

Ah, right. Hadn't thought of that, was too busy being outraged!

DuncinToffee · 15/04/2024 22:52

Andersin didn't record a vote either

IClaudine · 15/04/2024 22:55

Andersin 😂

Yes, I noticed that too.

MrsSkylerWhite · 15/04/2024 23:02

So sorry to derail! Wanted to start thread but app won’t let me. Advice on that gratefully received 😄
Anyone seen Chris Mason’s interview with Liz Truss? What a bloody car crash. WTAF is wrong with her? In terms of self awareness, I think she’s just trumped (pun not intended) Prince Andrew. Unbelievable.
