Can I suggest a late entry for Barbara, Penelope Wilton. She played Barbara in Shaun of the dead.

She was also Harriet Jones in Dr Who so that could be an opportunity for some comedy, "Have we met before" if we have David Tennant as a solicitor (or Christopher Eccleston).

DisabledDemon · 19/04/2024 01:58

Doctor Who David Tennant or Crowley the Demon David Tennant?

Always Crowley.
Ideally long-haired and wearing a robe.

I do think a plan of action re other allotment holders might be wise...

Are you good with cake @YaMuvva or could you turn up bearing foil wrapped gifts of sausage and bacon butties one nippy morning (or a morning sausage-inna-bun bbq?)... As PP said, once they've accepted your foods they are going to find it far harder to be on Babs side...

Maintaining a pleasant, cheerful and interested presence could work wonders...be all sympathetic, 'yes it IS a shame but I wonder why Babs didn't offer to buy it when Sally sold the house? Ho hum...' etc etc! and 'Well.. perhaps you could share your plot with her?'...

In my twisted movie version, our hero makes baked goods for the neighbours using some of the fruits in HER allotment 😂

WiddlinDiddlin · 19/04/2024 21:18

Oooooh a controversial Victoria Sandwich... made using jam crafted from fruits 'stolen' (only they're not are they) from the allotment... Shame it isn't the right time of year for that!

InMySpareTime · 19/04/2024 22:02

Blackcurrants or rhubarb might fit that narrative though

WiddlinDiddlin · 19/04/2024 22:07

I am imagining that OP taking Barbaras precious Rhubarb for jam would be the sort of catalyst for a village feud that lasts HUNDREDS OF YEAAAAARS... Do it... doooooo iiiiiiiiiiiiiiit...

theatremachine · 19/04/2024 22:09

Maybe you could win first prize at the village show by displaying Barbara's lovely marrows?

People will talk about that shit for decades.

MrsMoastyToasty · 19/04/2024 23:14

You do realise that a Hollywood studio is going to buy this story. The allotment will now be a field in Iowa and Babs will be Barbie-Sue. (I haven't decided which American actors will play the parts of you and your DH. )

myfaceismyown · 20/04/2024 00:37

@MrsMoastyToasty When Hollywood picks this up they would still want the central characters to be British, but recognisable to the US market. Might I suggest Kiera Knightly as the OP, Jack Davenport as her DH. Miriam Margolyse would be spectacular as the rather forgetful seller... Alan Cummings as the solicitor and then Gillian Anderson as Babs? Unfortunately I do not know if my choices would work in a musical...

Edited

Joan Collins for Babs in full Dynasty mode.

After watching Beyond Paradise last night I do see Barbara Flynn as Babs in the UK version

Good job my grandmother kept quiet about the origin of the jam that won first prize at the WI (or some other award).

My mum made it!

Was it Calendar Girls where someone entered an M&S sponge in the competition?

MinnieGirl · 20/04/2024 10:05

Have you been back to the allotment? Do you think the letter would have arrived yet?

YaMuvva · 20/04/2024 14:39

🚨 THE LETTER HAS BEEN SENT 🚨

Just caught up on my emails now, the letter was posted yesterday first class recorded 😱 with a notice date of 20th May to take her property off the plot.

Now you’d think that I’d be able to check the Ring cam - which does reach to her door - but OF COURSE the one day I am charging the bloody doorbell is the one day I could do with seeing the footage to see if postie knocked on her.

Also rang my solicitors yesterday who say they have had no correspondence about the conveyancing from the other solicitors and when they’ve chased them they have said no progression has been made on the matter! but they said that seller’s Solicitor is very professional so it’s very possible that Sally Seller is not engaging with them. If she stonewalls, we will just have to take direct legal action

I’m about to go to the supermarket I have to drive past the allotment on my way and whilst I can’t see the plot from the road I may stop and have a wander, as I feel quite sick about the letter having possibly arrived! I wanna see if she’s chucking bleach all over the place

First class recorded should have a tracking number, you can track here: https://www.royalmail.com/track-your-item

rockingbird · 20/04/2024 14:54

Today is a great day.. one month from now Babs should be gone. I'd loved to have seen her face when she opened that letter - no doubt straight on the phone to the seller. I suspect they are working together on this one!

therealcookiemonster · 20/04/2024 14:58

I am very disappointed OP. you should have thought ahead and charged your ring doorbell overnight (is that possible?). now we will never know what her expression was like when she got the letter.

bluebird3 · 20/04/2024 15:00

Adding 20th May to my calendar to come back to check this thread 😂

WiddlinDiddlin · 20/04/2024 15:11

Yers I think a quick check on the plot as you go by would be the sensible move... and not remotely because I want to know if Barbara is ripping stuff out in the style of a stroppy pissed off teenager trashing their room, whilst wailing to other plot holders that you're SO MEAN...

Not at alllll.

Silvers11 · 20/04/2024 15:39

Thanks for the update OP. Hope she goes without a fuss

NowThatYoureGone · 20/04/2024 16:58

Great update 👍
Not sure if anyone suggested Peter Mullen for FIL? I loved him in Tyrannosaur.
The Beach Boys were pallie with Charlie Manson for a bit so tainted for me (long story).
Anyone remember the Rolly Pollys? I know it was a while ago but may still be a few or a new generation.
Showing my age......

MonsteraMama · 20/04/2024 16:58

Oh good luck. I hope this just puts the fear in her and she buggers off without any fuss. As amusing as the idea of all out warfare over an allotment is, in reality her going away with her tail between her legs is a much better outcome for you!
