Personally I consider the seller obtained money by deception, and that is a criminal offence.

@YaMuvva hope the solicitor can help you, and your child is better soon.

Well you are doing a good job of hiding it.
Seems like you are getting a great deal of enjoyment out of being ‘right’ and dissing someone older than you.
I assume you have the secret of eternal youth op?

In classic Mumsnet style, Did you mean to be so rude?

This is part of the home OP and her husband bought. An allotment style plot for her DH to benefit from given his health issues, and an asset with value. Just because the previous owner let a pal use if when she had no use for it doesn't mean Barb can be petty or obstreperous about it.

It isn't hers. It never was. She had the extraordinary good fortune to enjoy a free allotment for some years. Her 'luck' has morphed into 'entitlement' in her mind, and she's bang out of order for that.

lIf Barb had any class whatsoever, she'd clear her stuff out and pass on any knowledge about the soil or recent crop rotation to the new owners like a sane person would.

RainIsCosy · 15/04/2024 12:10

I wouldn't feel too bad for Babs. It sounds like she has plenty of room on her own home garden to build an amazing garden for herself. It's not like she has nowhere to go and ten years is a decent amount of time to have had enjoyment of a free allotment.

What a weird post.
Op is the victim here. She has paid money for something and been denied access to it. When challenged the person occupying op’s land responded aggressively by saying she would ‘fight’.
She’s entitled to look forward to getting her land back.

Have I said anything ageist?! No I have not

And Botox helps, if you’re looking for tips.

Loving these threads, is there a Mr Babs do we know? Perhaps he's banned Babs from using the garden for anything but flowers etc.

Mr Babs could be under the allotment, hence the possessiveness. 😃

Having looked on IMDB I’ve never seen anything Sam Heughan is in

Outlander. It is huge in America but only on niche channels here.

Essentially what you need to do is go and rub a rock somewhere a bit spiritual, this will then catapult you back in time to a point before the allotment was even built. You just lie in wait for about 49 years until the point where Sally Seller tells Babs she can use it, then step in to change the course of history. However, along the way, you will meet and fall in lust with Sam, whose arch-enemy will rather inconveniently be an ancestor of (and dead ringer for) your current DH. Awks.

Bonus points if you take with you into the past some knowledge or skill which is commonplace today but essentially witchcraft in the olden days. Eg knowledge if medicine or engineering or, I dunno, PR?

It's more ageist to suggest Babs is a poor dear old lady who needs charity. She's only in her 60s ffs, many people are still working at this age. She owns a nice house with a big garden.

I suggest Ilkley Moor (bar t’at).

I'm in my late 60s and think Babs is a CF, if that helps. And someone saying 'I'll fight you for it' (or whatever CF Bab's words were) doesn't really conjure up poor dear old lady to me.

Cathbrownlow · 15/04/2024 13:53

I think it's terribly easy to want to give land away to randoms, when it's not your land in the first place.

I totally agree you should see my StepMIL who is 71 and puts her back into digging with barely breaking a sweat. She’s be extremely offended if I treated her like a doddery confused old lady

Is it a mumsnet pattern or am I just getting deja vu? A thread that spans multiple threads with a 'drama' and we start getting suggestions of making it into a show or movie and then the songs and poems come? I feel like ive read very similar before.

Yes, this was my thought too.. The writing style is very, very similar.

I've come to the conclusion that anyone on MN who thinks people should give away land or houses, or just let other people use them for free, doesn't own any property themselves.

Oh give over. It's just a thing that happens when the point of the thread is held up because we're waiting for things to happen in the real world, e.g. an industrial tribunal breaks for lunch & everybody starts wondering who would play the lawyers in a stage show. It's that or biscuits. Or cheese puns. Or Twix sizes. Or Yorkshire pudding recipes.

I found it humorous that someone on this thread said it can't be real because it's taking so long to resolve. Has anybody ever had an instant result from a land dispute involving lawyers?

I can write what I want, it really isn’t up to you. I found it funny too, I was just agreeing with a pp that I felt I have read it a few times before too.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 15/04/2024 14:40

@inthekyoo Then my advice would be to be careful because MN has strict rules about certain things & you sounded like you were about to stray over the line into Naughty Step territory.

therealcookiemonster · 15/04/2024 14:52

I know everyone is very excited about the prospect of a jolly musical, but I feel like this will do much better as a dark scandi style thriller with @YaMuvva and her DH played by Rosamund Pike and Sean bean respectively. Barbara by dame Judi Dench. Garage guy by Timothy spall.

it will turn out that Barbara and garage guy and previous owner (played by Maggie smith) are involved in county lines. Barbara has bodies buried in the allotment (hence the verdant growth) and garage was main storage site. a detective will get involved (nicola walker) and things will get very dark and dangerous with bodies dropping like flies....

@YaMuvva I think, but am not sure, they may be alluding to a recent thread about a woman who took dog, partner and FiL to the vet to give MiL space to run her WI coffee afternoon; everyone got a bit trashed in the pub,SiL had a meltdown over getting her hair wet/catching the train home etc… it was an hysterical thread.

May not have been true. It might have been written by Jilly Cooper brainstorming her next novel. But who cares? It was funny and a nice release from the darker stuff on this site that lures some of us in.

BMW6 · 15/04/2024 15:24

I'm 66. Barbara is not being "dissed" by a much younger person.

Barbara is an atrocious cunt.
Don't be like Barbara.

Yeah that wasn’t me but it sounds amusing. When you boil it down my allotment thread/s didn’t nearly have as much content, it’s more the funny posts that have led on from it that’s the reason it’s gone on so long (and I’m thoroughly enjoying it Grin)
