@Fairyliz I am not sure you have read the 3 threads!Barbara lives diagonally opposite No.8 and will have seen the for sale sign, the sold sign and know she was on borrowed time for her borrowing. She was just swanking about on her deck chair with her Stanley cup and flat pack shed taking the michael out of the new owners when she could have been making her own garden into a veg plot if that tickles her fancy.
As an aside, my idiot next door neighbour chomped into our garden once the previous owner passed away. We had the solicitor battle, re-established the boundary at their expense and put in a new fence (our expense) on our side. Now they have painted it horse shit green on their side and screwedrandom stuff into it and I simply cannot be bothered with the confrontation. They do not have enough little grey cells to comprehend that they are in the wrong. Laughable idiocy.

all of this yes but also it doesn't matter when the Op found out what they had bought. The fact remains that they bought it fair and square and now own it.

I agree. Yes, even if OP found out about the plot after the sale, it would still be OP's. I just mean, for the people who somehow think Barbara has some kind of claim it's even weaker that.

And don't get me started on the if-you-have-mental-health-struggles-people-should-give-you-free-stuff brigade.

Allofaflutter · 13/04/2024 18:37

Would it horseRADISH they find in their bed? 😂

😂 The Allotment Gang are going to make them an offer they can't refuse (and one day, they'll ask OP and husband for a favour, and when that day comes...)

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 13/04/2024 19:43

Well that’s one of the most entertaining threads I’ve read in a long time. Thanks Op. Sorry it’s all such a ballache for you though.

Pixie2015 · 13/04/2024 19:46

Have you had journalists with drones round yet to take pictures for the Sunday papers and clickbait.
Hope you get some good veg from the allotment soon!

Why are people on this thread so gleeful about the fact that a woman is going to lose her sanctuary that has made her happy for the past ten years? The joy of having an allotment isn't much to ask for in life and this woman doesn't seem to have much else if she values it to the extent she does. OP and her DH have every right to throw her and her veg and shed off the plot but surely it's more sad than hilarious?

In what way doesn’t she seem to have much else? She has a lovely house in a very nice area with a huge garden for starters.

Hmmmm,

I would say:

Screenplay: Sally Wainwright
Director: Shane Meadows
Babs: Sarah Lancashire
OP: Olivia Coleman or Claire Foy
Mr OP: Jamie Bamber
Mr Garage-Boxes: David Threlfall
Previous owner: Lyndsay Duncan

But it this evolves into a full-on legal drama, I want to see Olivia Coleman as Barbara's solicitor and Rufus Sewell as OP's solicitor.

In that the allotment is apparently her "sanctuary" and the previous owner of your house said it would be terrible for her to lose it. The allotment seems to mean so much to her. I think the glee you and other posters have shown in taking it away from her is downright nasty to be honest. Take it by all means but the glee is imho misplaced.

KateDelRick · 13/04/2024 19:54

No, I want to see it done by the Carry On team, sadly they're no longer with us, otherwise -
OP - Hattie Jacques
Mr OP - Kenneth Williams
Barbara - Barbara Windsor of course!
Sid James - the garage squatter

MarkWithaC · 13/04/2024 19:55

This is not the point, and I’m being a pedant, and I’m sorry, but it’s making me twitch:
It’s Olivia Colman

so if your back bedroom was her sanctuary you'd be ok with her moving in?

EnglishBluebell · 13/04/2024 19:57

@YaMuvva I'm in the same town as you and it's rained a few times today!

godmum56 · 13/04/2024 19:57

Totally different scenario obviously. And anyway I've said OP should take it. I just don't get the gleefulness and lack of compassion.

EnglishBluebell · 13/04/2024 20:05

@PrettySenior I agree. I genuinely do think they should take what's rightfully theirs and shouldn't feel sorry for her either, given that OP knows for a fact she has a substantial garden!
However I don't think it's a good look to be quite literally 'enjoying' hurting somebody's feelings, even though I agree with doing it.

iAmBarbara · 13/04/2024 20:07

Ok, my casting suggestions for the west end musical,

Kerry Ellis as OP
Ramin Karimloo as DH
Jennie Dale as Barbara
Sheila Hancock as previous owner
Jason Mansford as garage cf

I’m open to suggestions 😂

The thread turning into some veg-related humour doesn’t mean anyone is ‘gleeful’ about her losing use of the allotment. It just means the thread has taken a humorous turn. Other than that what do you expect me to do, cry?

Weve been out walking and it was lovely I had my t-shirt on! Only a drop of rain about midday and again in the last couple of hours.

@PrettySenior Barbara knew she had borrowed the land. Barbara lives opposite the OP and knew the house was for sale. Barbara would have seen the FOR SALE signs. Ditto Babs would have seen the SOLD sign. If she had approached the OP and explained she had looked after the land that was one thing. Instead she waited for them and then said she would put up a fight to claim the "borrowed" land. Hurting her feelings??? I think not. She was aware all the time and being a total CF.

dapsnotplimsolls · 13/04/2024 20:19

Babs thought she was home and dry when nothing happened after the sale. She isn't. Tough titties.

KateDelRick · 13/04/2024 20:20

But maybe Barbara genuinely didn't know that the land was for sale. Maybe she thought it was just the house? Even the OP - who was purchasing, didn't seem to know what was going on.

YaMuvva · 13/04/2024 20:21

FWIW I do NOT get a kick out of the thought of taking someone’s sanctuary away from them. At all. However i have explained why we have taken the selfish route, wether people think our reasons are justifiable or not is not really my concern

I’ll be honest my last proper update was the first post in the last thread, it’s just been recruiting actors and courgette inspired jokes since then 🤣

her "dear friend" didn't tell her? she lived opposite the house and didn't know? I don't know about you but round here if a close house goes on sale, we all know!
