Sorry op but I think you are going to get a bad reputation in the allotment ‘club’.

Oh, no! ,Not...a bad reputation with the allotment 'club headed by Don Corleone (aka Don Courgette)! Are they a bit like the Mafia? Will OP and husband find a horse's head in their bed?😂

Shame for the allotment 'club', isn't it? They'll just have to live with it, 'ain't life a bitch. Totally unreasonable for the OP and husband to want the house and land that THEY have paid for, isn't it? Broccoli Babs will have to freeload elsewhere.

Ohnobackagain · 13/04/2024 18:21

@fairyliz re your post on the second thread (now full) pretty sure in the first thread OP @YaMuvva says they knew about the allotment all along but hadn’t had a chance to visit it since moving in. It was the garage that they hadn’t known about, however, on checking, both were clearly mentioned in the sales details and during the purchase as being included. So the seller will have got whatever she chose to accept in terms of price and while it is very sad for the person using the allotment, none of this is OP’s fault.

"Also I want to know about the elderly Korean lady. What was that thread?"

Here you go:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/mumsnet_classics/2154580-There-is-a-tiny-elderly-Korean-lady-in-my-garden-and-I-want-to-go-out

Oh my God.
My sister lives in New Malden! And her cat left their house in a huff after she was put on a diet and moved in with an elderly woman! Also she had a summer house she pulled down and her husband has been banned from buying a circular saw on the basis that he doesn’t need it!
Elderly Korean Lady’s powers must extend through the entire area! It is the only logical explanation.

Thats it. This years summer holiday is going to be New Malden and a field in Yorkshire. Sod Eurodisney.

Nope op said she didn’t know about allotment or garage until she got the deeds. It’s a long time since I bought a house but I’m fairly sure she wouldn’t see these until conveyancing???
So she put in an offer on a house not thinking it had either if those things.

As I keep saying, it saves time later.

See page 2 of this thread.

Ohnobackagain · 13/04/2024 18:42

@Fairyliz her 3rd post says they saw it during the conveyancing process and queried it.

BoudiccaOfSuburbia · 13/04/2024 18:43

Hmmmm,

I would say:

Screenplay: Sally Wainwright
Director: Shane Meadows
Babs: Sarah Lancashire
OP: Olivia Coleman or Claire Foy
Mr OP: Jamie Bamber
Mr Garage-Boxes: David Threlfall
Previous owner: Lyndsay Duncan

BellaVita · 13/04/2024 18:45

Honestly people can just scroll on by if they think the OP is trolling, you don’t have to read the thread.

I for one couldn’t care less if it is or not - It has given me a good laugh <not laughing at you OP>. Stick to your guns and wrestle Babs for that allotment 😆

MrTiddlesTheCat · 13/04/2024 18:49

Surely she can't have much growing yet. End of April / beginning of May is when planting outside really takes off.

I don’t want to be pedantic but op said she saw it on deeds. However either way she was happy to put in a bid for a house that she didn’t think had an allotment or garage.
Obviously legally she owns them. However I still do think the previous owner thought she had given the allotment to Barbara, even if she didn’t do it properly. If the plot had been left untended for 10 years it would be in a right overgrown state by now. Therefore I do think Barbara deserves some credit for keeping it in good condition.

Correct! The garage was our/EA oversight the allotment was the EA/seller oversight

But I was aware of both before completion

I'm very invested in this. Please keep us updated.

myfaceismyown · 13/04/2024 19:16

Hmm now thinking on a totally abstract waive. We have a number of people local to OP and someone willing to have her sons write the musical. What if we stage a coupe? We climb into Babs back garden (thread 1 we know from the OP it is large) temporarily fence off the end - no penguin bollards or barbara wire, just potted plants, Stanley cups and deck chairs. Then we stage the musical! Happy to send out invites to the press plus Claire Foyle, Joanna Lumley, and any of the other umpteen suggested actors mentioned in all 3 threads to see if they would volunteer their services. Also would like the part of passing woman with dog (non speaking) if available.

YaMuvva · 13/04/2024 17:18

I’m also not bothered about the troll hunting. It really isn’t that interesting a story and IMO the threads have been so long thanks to other posters’s wonderful veggie-related puns and humour, rather than me trying to make a ‘comedy’. And yes I am enjoying myself posting about it- heavens, a woman having fun, call the village elders (probably Barbara seeing as she is soooooo old)

I have to tell you, I'm living for this thread right now! 🤣

Two requests though - I feel this needs to be a tv drama rather than a film - possibly more than one season as we follow the land owners escapades after they have reclaimed their land.

And can Sir Patrick Stewart be a fellow plot holder, or even perhaps Barbara's long suffering husband, who secretly sides with the land owners to thwart her evil plans.

He would be perfect in the TV adaptation!

Even Barbara doesn't think the plot is hers. She said her dear friend let her use it, not that her dear friend gave it to her. And even though OP was unaware of the garage and plot at the time of making an offer, she was aware of it before completion. That means that at the time of purchase, OP fully knew what she was buying (and what would belong to her after the sale was completed).

all of this yes but also it doesn't matter when the Op found out what they had bought. The fact remains that they bought it fair and square and now own it.

PrettySenior · 13/04/2024 19:35

Why are people on this thread so gleeful about the fact that a woman is going to lose her sanctuary that has made her happy for the past ten years? The joy of having an allotment isn't much to ask for in life and this woman doesn't seem to have much else if she values it to the extent she does. OP and her DH have every right to throw her and her veg and shed off the plot but surely it's more sad than hilarious?

She has a massive garden - she can grow some veg there.
