What is the MOST irritating thing on Mumsnet?

5YearsLeft · 13/04/2024 04:43

I saw someone mention that something was “high on the list of most irritating Mumsnet things,” but I couldn’t find a post discussing that list. And now we have polls, I thought it might be interesting, especially “other” stuff.

@VioletLemon yaaay! Thankyou, this is fab.
You have restored my faith in the MN viper pit 😆

Pantaloons99 · 13/04/2024 11:55

I do this. I annoy myself 😆. I can't figure out how to just reference the name.

On mobile at least, if you type “@“ at any point in your comment, it shows you a drop down list of commenters from the thread, with the OP being the first one. If you then type part of a name after the @, like let’s say you only remember the person had bear in their username, typing @ bear (with no space) should show you the drop down list of only posters with bear in their username. Then you just select the username and it auto-populates. I assume it also works this way on regular Mumsnet, but no guarantees about the app as I don’t know.

@5YearsLeft this is great. Been driving me mad trying to do all this! Thankyou, I'm loving it.
Some flowers for you 💐😁

@Pantaloons99 Ah, I’m so glad it works! And thanks!

I voted for “Not RTFT”.

But my “Other” would be the groupthink adoption of the latest MN buzzword to the point that it just gets (at least to me!) really irritating.

I give you: “cheeky fucker”.

ALongHardWinter · 13/04/2024 19:20

Posts that are one long continuous paragraph, with no commas or full stops. I find it exhausting trying to make sense of them.

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 13/04/2024 20:14

Posters who have no first hand experience of neurodiversity / autism getting annoyed when someone who lives with with it every day and has been through years of hell, suggests that a poster asking for help might want to do some reading about it just in case it applies to them.

Pantaloons99 · 13/04/2024 20:37

@lemonsaretheonlyfruit this in absolute spades.
I don't understand why posters get so upset by this. It would be better to bash the mum's posting about their incompetence or something? I really don't get it. When I posted, 'we are usually right' on here, I mean we are right when we say this sounds like Autism.

Teenagequeenwithaloadedgun · 13/04/2024 20:46

When a thread becomes popular and people start posting ideas of actors who should play each role if it was a film.

tobee · 13/04/2024 20:55

That some things you can't discuss on mn. Because people don't want to be nuanced or pontificate.

The people who only want to post telling other people off and to virtue signal.

Hugely long posts with no paragraphs.

Posters who write "I'm fed up of" or "I could of"

Endless "how can anyone afford a holiday/new car?" etc. Of course there's a col crisis and so on but some people do earn extraordinary amounts of money or have saved all their lives.

But mostly the one post op with no comeback where it's obvious they are just being a goady fucker.

goldenretrievermum5 · 13/04/2024 20:56

EarringsandLipstick · 13/04/2024 06:25

But I think the most irritating is the trans obsession as the most important political challenge of the time "I'm a single issue voter so of course I'll vote Conservative. No I don't care about children in extreme poverty, decrepit schools, over flowing prisons, working NHS staff using food banks etc etc etc. I must have the freedom to wash blood soaked underwear in a public sink and pop them back on"

No idea what threads you've read to come up with that invented narrative.

I haven't come across any posters who have indicated lack of interest in all other societal issues in favour of one issue only. I do see an active, informed community continually addressing the deeply problematic issues caused by gender ideology.

There was an entire batshit thread dedicated to it. You’re lucky that you missed it.

tobee · 13/04/2024 20:59

Also, there's quite a lot of disordered eating on some threads. Recently there was someone criticising another poster who was calorie counting meticulously but not losing weight. Someone replied that they basically only ate protein. Which (a) is very unhealthy and (b) made me want to ask "what? Are you a lion?"

superplumb · 13/04/2024 21:31

People who use the word ghastly. Surely noone in real life says this .

Thursa · 13/04/2024 21:39

People who just can’t understand things.

AIBU to not understand how people like gin?
AIBU to not understand why people live in London?
AIBU to not understand why people wear Pandora?

Deliberate misunderstanding.

People who leech onto a single spelling mistake in a 350 word post and then are incapable of understanding the entire post. You brought your house where?

Amateur detectives.

Really OP? You say your child is 12 but 7 years ago you said they were 6.

A, B, C, and D posts.

Maybe it’s just me, but I cannot follow these posts. (probably is just me). It would be so much easier to read about Ann, Beth, Carol, and Diane.

niadainud · 13/04/2024 21:41

Sympathy inflation.

First poster: I'm sorry to hear about your loss.
Second poster: I'm so sorry to hear about your loss.
Third poster: I'm so very sorry to hear about your loss.
Fourth poster: I'm so, so sorry to hear about your loss.
Fifth poster: I'm so, so, incredibly sorry...

Etc.

StarvingMarvin222 · 13/04/2024 22:16

Posters that don't realise other places exist apart from Britain.
They don't grasp other places have other ways of talking, sayings and local speech .So they come on a thread to preach.

YaMuvva · 13/04/2024 22:18

Someone coming on a lighthearted thread to declare they don’t find the OP funny.

Fair enough for not finding it funny, everyone has an opinion - but these people think “I’m the paragon of all that is amusing so people MUST be told that I do not find this amusing. That’s how irrelevant my opinion is!”. Miserable dickheads

toadinthebucket · 13/04/2024 23:34

Teenagequeenwithaloadedgun · 13/04/2024 20:46

I came here to say that after reading a particularly obnoxious thread where that's all that's happening!

Why are you reading it then?

YaMuvva · 13/04/2024 23:43

Why are you reading it then?

I can't speak for the pp but I was following that thread because I was interested in the actual problem the OP posted about.

Goldiex · 14/04/2024 02:39

People who pick out the LEAST relevant part of a detailed post as if they are some sort of detective decoding a case.

People who hate skinny people.

'Think' omg stfu just say what it is.

The whole DH, DP thing is super irritating, old and twee.

Pearl clutching.

Uploading links instead of just adding the bloody photo

I hate clicking on style and beauty links just learn how to add a bloody photo

Using the term First world problems 🤮

InAMillion · 14/04/2024 03:13

Zombie threads

Check the bloody date the thread started and the date of the very last post before adding your own post which is 5 years too late

Etc.

‘I’ll be lighting candles in a chapel on a hill today and sending prayers because I’m hysterical with grief about your loss stranger on the internet…’. Oh, and anyone who starts their post with ‘ignore all the other posters’ before giving their advice as if they are the only one who should be listened to!

HotChocolateNotCocoa · 14/04/2024 07:07

Posters whose AIBU vote is 88% in their favour who then post “If you’re one of the 12% who think I’m unreasonable, can I ask WHY you think that?” You really can’t be happy with a majority like that? Everyone has to side with you?
