What is the MOST irritating thing on Mumsnet?

5YearsLeft · 13/04/2024 04:43

I saw someone mention that something was “high on the list of most irritating Mumsnet things,” but I couldn’t find a post discussing that list. And now we have polls, I thought it might be interesting, especially “other” stuff.

OP posts:
CelesteCunningham · 13/04/2024 12:57

People complaining about long standing styles like DH, DS, DD that have been used on here and elsewhere forever Grin

CwmYoy · 13/04/2024 12:58

The pathetic passive aggressive, "What did he say when you asked him about it?" remarks when it's clear the OP didn't speak to whoever. It is smug and makes the poster look stupid.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 13/04/2024 13:02

"Have you considered autism?"
"Teacher refuses to challenge my gifted DC5"

Can you post a link to the verified research... (that backs up a throwaway, irrelevant point). Oh just fuck off!!!

CurlewKate · 13/04/2024 13:08

I find the accusations of man hating seriously bizarre. To me it looks as if men get cut soooooo much slack on here. Is it a case of when you're used to privilege, equality looks like disadvantage?

VioletLemon · 13/04/2024 13:10

@Pantaloons99 hover across name to highlight, select copy, add '@' and paste.

comeondover · 13/04/2024 13:21

Lovehearts82 · 13/04/2024 05:37

I don't know why this irritates me but when the op uses the word "think" 😫.
So ... " I was grocery shopping today, think Aldi or Lidl"

Me too!

HorribleHisTories15 · 13/04/2024 13:21

So basically I should be quiet and go away? Same old, same old @OP

shoppingshamed · 13/04/2024 13:25

VioletLemon · 13/04/2024 13:10

@Pantaloons99 hover across name to highlight, select copy, add '@' and paste.

You don't need to that, just type @ and start typing the person's name, it even defaults to the OP

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 13/04/2024 13:27

People who want to excuse every example of lazy/selfish/PITA behaviour, by suggesting SN/MH issues.

CuttingMeOpenthenHealingMeFine · 13/04/2024 13:29

When people say they have ‘done their research’ on something (weaning/car seats etc.) - for most people it means having a google and then probably only reading the articles that agree with their viewpoint (and yes there will be the odd one who spends hours pouring over medical journals and what not but let’s face it, most people are not doing that).

People who seem to raise their children in Enid Blyton novels.

The child hating, so much of it these days, I do think there is something a lot more sinister behind a lot of it.

During lockdown - people saying ‘it’s so hard with the schools being closed having to homeschool two children and also having to work full time, I can’t wait until things are back to normal and the schools are open’ and then the response of ‘well what do you usually do when schools are closed during the holidays’ or ‘can’t you hire a nanny’ like holiday clubs were somehow still running during a national lockdown and you could just find a nanny on a days notice to come and live with your family during a pandemic. Ugh.

HotChocolateNotCocoa · 13/04/2024 13:36

People who claim they can’t follow a post if the OP keeps things gender neutral. “It’s so hard to read!!” It really isn’t.

shoppingshamed · 13/04/2024 13:40

The assumption that aibu is the only topic, soany posts that aren't even questions and I've just read one where the OP has had to make up some voting options when it's clearly a chat thread.

In most cases using chat would get a better discussion as there's no combative aspect

Exactly….’nah, look it up yourself’ it’s the same as ‘I’ve never seen anyone say that on here, can you link to those posts?’ Yes, I’ll certainly look through 100,000,000 posts for you just to prove I’m right. I always imagine what it must be like to work with all these faux innocent, head tilters, must be purgatory.

SuziQuinto · 13/04/2024 13:42

Coshei · 13/04/2024 11:10

Take your pick when searching for the topic. But you can be sure that another one will be posted in due time with the same tiresome arguments.

I've no idea what you're on about.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 13/04/2024 13:43

Ambiguous thread titles that give very little clue as to the context of the post, so thinks like ‘Am I being unreasonable to think…’ or ‘Question for all the mums out there.’ It annoys me partly as I like to have an idea of the content I’m about to click on before reading, I tend to ignore threads that won’t interest me, and also because I find I will often end up accidentally going back to them when they appear in active/ trending because I don’t link the title with the thread and don’t realise I’ve already read it.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 13/04/2024 13:44

Very long posts with no paragraphs. Often started with ‘Long story short….’ And very likely ‘Me and (whoever)….’

SuziQuinto · 13/04/2024 13:44

valensiwalensi · 13/04/2024 10:44

And engaging in trans opinions ALWAYS derails threads.

No, it was an opinion about men being the victims of women on here. Their opinion. I'm just challenging it.

BlastedPimples · 13/04/2024 13:55

@Pantaloons99 "In threads I've been on, where people are vulnerable, on their knees, desparate, I've watched posters like coyotes descend upon them."

And with glee. Disgusting really.

windowframer · 13/04/2024 14:00

People who open threads with a link to an article in the OP, and launch into an impassioned tirade in agreement with the OP because it blows a dog whistle they're particularly primed for, without looking at the article which doesn't actually say anything like what the OP claims.

And then you get a whole long thread of people made confident to sound off because of an article that may actually say the opposite of what they're sounding off about.

MumOfOneAwesomeHuman · 13/04/2024 14:03

Hiker50 · 13/04/2024 04:58

People on the thread discussing two comedians who are divorcing taking the time to post that they've never heard of them - ok so don't comment.
Also loose and lose.
Alot - a lot
People can't spell.

People writing loose instead of lose both here and pretty much everywhere drives me mad!

AnImaginaryCat · 13/04/2024 14:08

I try to let common spelling error slide. But for some reason "rediculous" makes me exasperated. Not even sure why of all the common errors that one bothers me.

Probably because it's ridiculous! 😁

HotChocolateNotCocoa · 13/04/2024 14:16

I also find it really odd when posters refer to someone as a “mum” rather than just as a woman (e.g. “Was this mum rude ?”) I know in a way it’s just to make clear it’s someone they know via their child’s school, but it just seems to reduce them to one part of their life.
