What is the MOST irritating thing on Mumsnet?

5YearsLeft · 13/04/2024 04:43

I saw someone mention that something was “high on the list of most irritating Mumsnet things,” but I couldn’t find a post discussing that list. And now we have polls, I thought it might be interesting, especially “other” stuff.

People that say “myself” inappropriately

to me they sound stupid

To myself they sound stupid as well😂😂😂😂

LunaandLily · 13/04/2024 14:28

People who post the MN is a hotbed of transphobia when what they mean is women won’t agree a man is a woman just because he says he is (and it’s biologically impossible anyway)

Bet that happens all the time! That extremely specific set of circumstances must be a constant irritation!

The “it’s sex not gender” brigade.

People who refer the 'brigades' of just about anything.

It's like having our very own local paper / Daily Mail journalist on the spot.

People writing loose instead of lose both here and pretty much everywhere drives me mad!

I agree with you but when I pointed out a poster had done that my post got deleted. I’d prefer to be told if my spelling was incorrect.

5YearsLeft · 13/04/2024 15:02

Erm, when someone tries to start a light-hearted thread but, like an idiot, they forgot to put “lighthearted” in the title, and as a result, there are a bunch of bun fights.

It’s me. I’m the idiot. Sorry, everybody. Maybe we can let go of some of the heavy stuff and fights, and get back to the important complaints, like why, WHY is cycling so outing?!?!

Oh dear!
I'm going to say the overuse of the term "grim" which is all encompassing on here!

Worse, I think, is when someone posts a thread about an obviously shit thing that's happening to them but puts "lighthearted" so we can only watch the awfulness and not offer any sensible support.....

DerekFaker · 13/04/2024 15:35

People who come onto threads about celebrities to say they don't know who they are. Prats.

Flossflower · 13/04/2024 15:39

I dislike posts by people who don’t like any children. It is called Mumsnet, with the description’ A forum for parents by parents.’

Another dislike of mine is people who post links without including a share token.

Or vile. I always hear that like Kathy Burke on. ‘Gimme Gimme Gimme’ I also hate when someone asks a poster who’s needing to leave her partner for whatever reason if she could leave and go to her mums’s….however, when a man leaves and does that he’s sneered at for ‘running back to mummy’

DerekFaker · 13/04/2024 15:58

The obsession with class

The worship of France and all things French

"Think x" - why can't you just tell us what it is?

Quoting the OP

AIBU polls where it's not clear what the two options are in relation to the post.

The teeny tinies and their unhealthy views on diet and exercise

Your conditional needs a comma.
"were incorrect"

Not nice, is it?

Thank you @ASighMadeOfStone!

Bjorkdidit · 13/04/2024 16:15

Posters who call people 'teenie tinies' because they make a chicken last more than one meal and can't put away 3000 calories worth of pizza in one sitting.

toadinthebucket · 13/04/2024 10:01

This accusation of double standards gets me though. Generally you will get both opposing sides on a thread like that. MN isn't a homogenous mass that all thinks the same way. Unless you're telling me you've clocked the exact same posters saying both things? 🤔

There's often a consensus on a thread and they often go very differently if the person being complained about is a man.

Funniest threads are when it's not clear what sexes the parties involved are and people don't know whether the person being discussed is a savvy woman, or a financially abusive man.

Absolutely. I remember one thread where the OP was complaining about her partner’s attitude over attending a concert. OP hadn’t specified the partner’s gender. The vast majority of people said OP’s partner was an arsehole; the remaining posts were all asking why she hadn’t specified a gender 🙄

OP eventually confirmed her partner was female. The “Actually, I can kind of see her point…” posts started almost immediately.

tuvamoodyson · 13/04/2024 16:32

Yes! Women need to get married so if they divorce they get half of everything, women also need to ring fence their own money….

In real life if someone starts a conversation about a celebrity obviously if you dont know who they are it would be weird not to say so but it's equally weird to think that anyone in an anonymous forum needs to know unless it's the start of a sentence that is going on to contribute something

IcedPurple · 13/04/2024 16:35

People who think everything British, or at least English, is the worst in the world.

No, teeny tinies are the ones who say they think a size 12 is 'huge' and suggest people should try fasting or only eating 500 calories per day. You haven't seen them? There are loads of them!

Dangerous nonsense that should be banned

Oh I've seen them but I've also been accused of being a teeny tiny because I can't eat a whole portion of fish and chips or large Domino's pizza in one go.

Apparently its not a proper treat unless you're so stuffed you can't move afterwards.

Pantaloons99 · 13/04/2024 11:56

I'd guess we're usually right on this one.

This is mine too. Any time you have a difference of opinion with some people you can guarantee it isn’t long before being ND is brought up.

ManchesterBeatrice · 13/04/2024 17:02

Proud teeny tiny here 😂

Yes. Just scroll past. I can't understand why it's so hard!

Àh right. Yes that's unhealthy too obviously.
