Discontinued foods that you really miss

asbestosmouth24 · 12/04/2024 22:46

many lovely things have been discontinued that I really enjoyed growing up, Burton's potato puffs, the original Ringos crisps as they were in the 80s & early 90s. Topic bars, Riva chocolate bars. plus many many more
what do you really miss that they no longer make?

@TheTigerWhoCameToEatMyHusband re Milky way crispy rolls, DD got nostalgic about them the other week, reminiscing about how I'd get her a pack as a toddler, from the corner shop close to her nursery. But we couldn't find them anywhere now! I ended up ordering a box on amazon (well it was her birthday).

Cheesy flavor Nik Naks weren't that good but I still get cravings sometimes. Student era treat for me.

I came to say Cheesy Nick Naks - still miss them!

Another vote for Sara Lee chocolate gateaux.
Also Birds Eye brunchies, you have to be a child of the seventies to remember those
And the original Burger King spicy bean burger before they messed with it and ruined it (and before Burger King became generally shit)

Proper lemon puffs with the caramelised sugar on top. I bought a couple of packets months ago in Home Bargains of all places, but they were small, lemon middle was thin and not very lemony and the biscuit used to sandwich the lemon cream were more like Ritz crackers.

Custard donuts with a decent custard to dough ratio. Today's custard donuts are too stingy with the custard. Gregg's do a decent caramel iced one, but I just want a plain one with custard in the middle.

Jalapeno flavoured Kettle Chips. Pipers Jalapeno and Dill will have to do for now, but doesn't come close.

Sainsbury’s custard doughnuts aren’t bad

Ricicles
Non such Brazil nut toffee, round mini toffees with a Brazil nut on top from sainsburys
M and S did so many nice things:

Orange and raspberry fresh juice
Deltas
Potato squares
A creamy prawn curry (name escapes me)
Schwezan spicy beef dish

OldTinHat · 13/04/2024 04:33

brown-group9498.myshopify.com/products/heinz-toast-toppers-ham-cheese-128g You can still buy Toast Toppers - if you don't live in the UK!

Piglets. I'd forgotten all about them! And Hedgehog crisps. Does anyone remember those?

AlpacalypseLlamaggedon · 13/04/2024 04:43

Lyons cupcakes
The McRib

Tesco used to do a Cajun chicken flatbread with a lime and avocado dressing which was divine.

Northernsouloldies · 13/04/2024 04:52

Toffo, especially the assorted ones. In the 80s, Sainsburys did these things called breakfast slices, a cross between bacon and a sort of grilled salami. They were delicious.

They make breakfast sausage now which is remarkably similar

Bumblebeehum · 13/04/2024 05:01

Coconut boost. I dream of that coming back one day, It was the best!

And M&S Diet Cola/Coke, I think my addiction still rages about that one. Coke Zero comes close to it but nowhere near as good.

@TheTigerWhoCameToEatMyHusband @Yourethebeerthief @Georgie743 @RubyGemStone @VanellopeVonSchweetz99 Yes, I was about to say, I don’t know exactly how much any of you are pining for them, but they sell them in packs of 24 for £29. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Crispy-Chocolate-Filled-Crunchy-MILKYWAY/dp/B0CGMHY4TF

Oh, how could I have forgotten...?

  • KFC barbecue spare ribs
Flidina · 13/04/2024 06:00

Definitely KFC bbq spare ribs, my DH still reminices about them!
M&S prawn & spring onion spring rolls we're lush.
Macintosh's Golden Cup, caramel filled chocolate bar, loved it

Northernsouloldies · 13/04/2024 06:11

I remember that foil being a bugger to get off a slightly melted golden cup.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 13/04/2024 06:15

Cheddar McCoys
Not the mature cheddar and onion ones they do now(, just cheddar, they did them originally, but they've been discontinued for years.

Quorn did a "fake" chicken and mushroom pie which was excellent. The version. That Pukka make now is not the same.

Cadbury Bar Six

Catopia · 13/04/2024 06:21

Wispachinos.
Lidl used to do some chilli and salt spare ribs that were pretty amazing.

I used to love the assorted Toffos! Also Texan bars, Spangles and Pacers! Loved Pacers!

TitaniasAss · 13/04/2024 06:42

I loved a Mint Cracknel in the 70s. And Tudor crisps were amazing. Cremola foam, although that probably had more additives in than is legal now.

muddyford · 13/04/2024 06:44

Phineas Fogg garlic snacks. I still peruse the shelves occasionally to see if they have been brought back.

octoegg · 13/04/2024 06:51

I too miss toffos, surely there's enough evidence on here they should bring them back?!

Most of my others have been mentioned, potato triangles, fabulous bakin boys cupcakes, garlic bread without the garlic (think it was ham and cheese we used to get?) and I'll add honey nut bran flakes, they were amazing.

K1ran · 13/04/2024 06:52

Citrus 5 Alive juice. Craved it during pregnancy anf couldn't find any so went as far as emailing coca cola to ask why they have stopped making it

ArtG · 13/04/2024 06:55

Findus Crispy Pancakes. Beef (flavor, sure not much actual beef. My first taste of convenience food. Sorry 😂

My mother was very bitter when these came out as she had launched her own version on her unreceptive brood a year or so earlier. Whenever the advert came on tv she’d moan at our lack of appreciation.

R Whites raspberry lemonade. It was so delicious. Discontinued a few years ago, much to our family's distress.

Have you tried the Sainsbury pink lemonade? I can’t tell the difference
