I'd like the village shop/post office back - there was one when we moved here, but it closed several years ago and has been converted to a house.

And I'd like a decent pub - it's gone through phases of poor to middling but now has apparently been taken over by an unpleasant bunch.

And a school which doesn't discriminate against kids because of their religion (real or feigned).

A playground

DiamondSS · 11/04/2024 23:23

This is a good one.. something I read recently about making money in business said about how much better people would do if they opened businesses for exactly these things rather than another hairdressers, pub etc when there are already 6.

An Aldi or supermarket that isn’t Tesco
A soft play with a good coffee shop to meet up with people at rather than the rubbish cafes in them
A nail place you don’t have to book (I travel to another town for one, can never guarantee il have a baby sitter til last minute)

Oh and a restaurant that does good pub food but isn’t fancy so you can take kids without feeling guilty that they’ll ruin anyone’s dinner. Even better if it has an outdoor play area with a beer garden or soft play bit in some sort of kids section of the restaurant, where the noisy tables are

A late night venue that’s not a sixth-form hangout. Everyone over 25 is home by midnight cos there’s nothing for them. Although maybe - I suppose - it’s the other way around!

MmedeGouge · 11/04/2024 23:32

Old fashioned corner shop which sells an eclectic mix of goods.

Bionlible · 11/04/2024 23:32

A splash park, swimming pool or paddling pool.

Keeprejoining · 11/04/2024 23:32

Got a bus stop, now what we need is buses. And if the buses could run between that and the railway station one mile away it would be amazing

mdinbc · 11/04/2024 23:39

A nice downtown street with little shops of all varieties. Our downtown is all boarded up, for rent, empty spaces. It's awful.

We actually do have a butcher, bakery, a couple of coffee shops, but they not in the traditional downtown area, which has slowly been deserted.

Another thing that I think would work in most towns but probably not a huge money maker. Just a large space with WiFi and a printer with a good coffee shop at one end where everyone that works from home can come along and not feel any guilt at taking up a seat in a coffee shop for too long. Maybe sections for similar types of work so that people can maybe chat to others doing similar things. I love working from home but do end up going days without any form of adult conversation if my husband is away

PinkTeaForMe · 12/04/2024 00:22

Some nice clothes shops. Our high street is absolutely dead.
