A gym with a built in crèche. This definitely used to be more of a ‘thing’ in the 90s/00s but I can’t think of any near me that have one now. I’m guessing it’s probably just due to staffing etc but it’s a huge barrier for people who want to exercise and end up saying they’ll do it at home but just don’t. Even just where you can see them so wouldn’t feel weird to leave them with a stranger

MrsMoastyToasty · 12/04/2024 00:36

A bank.
I've lived here over 20 years and we have lost.

Nat West
Barclays
HSBC
TSB
Lloyd's
Santander
Bristol and West (can't remember what they became).

We are about to lose Halifax.

Snowontheroof · 12/04/2024 00:40

A bus service.

suki1964 · 12/04/2024 00:45

Public transport

cariadlet · 12/04/2024 00:48

A cinema. Not a big multiplex, just a couple of screens. I'd like it to show the latest releases and block busters to make enough money to keep going and then indie films and old classics for those of us with different tastes.

An independent book shop - WHSmith sells the chart toppers and Sainsbury's has a few but I'd like a decent choice.

A veggie/vegan grocery. There's a lovely one in the next town but I don't always want to travel there. We have a Holland and Barrett but that seems to be all supplements these days. They don't have a fridge or freezer section any more and our small Sainsbury's doesn't sell decent tofu.

My town centre seems to be mostly charity shops, cafes and takeaways with a few chain shops sprinkled in between. We do have a good independent hardware store, though.

A swimming pool, M&S, a youth centre, bowling alley, a hospital with an A&E and a Police Station.

Meadowfinch · 12/04/2024 01:03

A local pub.

Giggorata · 12/04/2024 01:10

In the village, I'd like our post office/village shop back, and the cafe in the next village.
i'd like our red telephone box back, too, even without a phone.
I'd like to have some HA/council houses reserved for young people from the village, so they aren't priced out.
I wish we had some orchards and more pasture around the village; we have a lot of arable.
It has improved, but I would like to see more and higher hedgerows.

DrJoanAllenby · 12/04/2024 01:16

Waitrose. My nearest one is in Cowbridge which is 37 miles away!

I think there are only around four in total in Wales!

Merrymouse · 12/04/2024 01:27

Outdoor pool

MrsAvocet · 12/04/2024 01:29

Sunshine.

Another thing that I think would work in most towns but probably not a huge money maker. Just a large space with WiFi and a printer with a good coffee shop at one end where everyone that works from home can come along and not feel any guilt at taking up a seat in a coffee shop for too long. Maybe sections for similar types of work so that people can maybe chat to others doing similar things. I love working from home but do end up going days without any form of adult conversation if my husband is away

I think that now that so many libraries are closing/reducing hours we also lack places for students to go and study.

MadisonAvenue · 12/04/2024 01:33

A post office.
We had one within a shop until early last year and while the post office counter was well used and always busy, the shop part wasn’t due to a well known small supermarket opening next door so it closed, taking the post office with it.

The supermarket company were asked if they wanted to take the PO counter into their store and they declined saying they didn’t have room.

Alstro · 12/04/2024 01:38

A lot more bus routes.

MarieKlepto · 12/04/2024 01:43

Post Office here too. Ours closed due to retirement and no one took it over. But I understand no one in their right mind wanting to take on that role in light of everything.

alwaysscared · 12/04/2024 01:45

A decent SEN school for kids with ASD and SEMH. My son has been out of school for 3 years as he just doesn't 'fit' anywhere

XenoBitch · 12/04/2024 01:52

A decent town centre. Ours is not dying, it is dead. The only reason to go there now is if you vape, need a Turkish barber, or need your phone fixed. Oh, and you are spoilt for choice if you want to buy a junkie.

It needs nuking from orbit.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 12/04/2024 03:43

A bank, nhs dentist, decent bus service and fewer Airbnb’s.

Northernsouloldies · 12/04/2024 04:48

Hapagirl48 · 11/04/2024 23:43

A China Town!

There's one on craggy island 😁

HuntingoftheSnark · 12/04/2024 04:50

Diversity

effoffwind · 12/04/2024 05:39

I'd like a shop
A bus route
A lovely beauty salon
A coffee shop that didn't charge £4

treacledan71 · 12/04/2024 05:46

You got to think though, lots of towns probably had lots independent shops but closed down as people did not use them because of retail parks and on line.

PurBal · 12/04/2024 05:54

A school and a playground.

Natsku · 12/04/2024 06:01

I'd like our out of hours/emergency doctor back - now its only available during office hours so if we get ill or have an accident in the evening or the weekend have to travel 50+ miles to the nearest hospital

I'd also like a Lidl.

transformandriseup · 12/04/2024 06:12

Our village has a primary school and a very small shop and that's it. I'm happy to walk/drive to everywhere else but there is currently no childcare provision for under 2's at all since Covid so this would be a want. It's put us off having a second child.
