Oh and a restaurant that does good pub food but isn’t fancy so you can take kids without feeling guilty that they’ll ruin anyone’s dinner. Even better if it has an outdoor play area with a beer garden or soft play bit in some sort of kids section of the restaurant, where the noisy tables are

You'd love my local.

Huge building with all the areas on the ground floor.

There is an adult only drinking area, an adult only dining area, an eating area for anyone, and indoor play area - behind fairly soundproof doors outside there is another seating area and a pirate ship shaped play area.

THey have a carvery and a typical pub menu.

What I want is the small local branch of the building society. They closed it during covid and there is a branch in the town centre, but you can't get near it on a bus or in a car.

The local branch had parking and lovely staff.

Another thing that I think would work in most towns but probably not a huge money maker. Just a large space with WiFi and a printer with a good coffee shop at one end where everyone that works from home can come along and not feel any guilt at taking up a seat in a coffee shop for too long. Maybe sections for similar types of work so that people can maybe chat to others doing similar things. I love working from home but do end up going days without any form of adult conversation if my husband is away

We have this it’s a fiver a day for a desk. It’s very much not for profit but such a good idea.

hottchocolatte · 12/04/2024 07:01

Greengrocers

we have a butchers and a couple of shops that sell milk, bread, cheese, alchohol and even other food but not veg

If there was a shop to buy fresh veg then with the butchers we could buy food for a meal without leaving the village

we have a pharmacy and salon too

A lido. There was one when I was a child and it made us happy all day long, all summer long.

iloveeverykindofcat · 12/04/2024 07:08

A gym. I live in a large village which has most amenities but a gym would be great. A few more trains would be good too but that's not really an amenity, just more use of the train line.

A China Town!

Come to Liverpool!

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 12/04/2024 07:14

A Tourism Tax with the proceeds spent on Social Housing.

rainontherooftop · 12/04/2024 07:16

I'd like some of the cafes in the town to be in more useful places. We have plenty of them but they're all together and we have none in the places where myself and loads of others go walking.

Massive park out of town - nowhere to get a drink.
Riverside meadows - ditto
Massive common popular with dog walkers - ditto.

Just a mobile kiosk with a few deck chairs outside would do!

Awrite · 12/04/2024 07:21

A veggie cafe/takeaway (with loads for vegans too).

Quite trendy but very welcoming.

TheThingIsYeah · 12/04/2024 07:33

A decent bypass.

hellswelshy · 12/04/2024 07:36

One or two decent restaurants. There are a fair few chain placed and the odd decent pub, but it's crying out for a good Italian restaurant and maybe a tapas place.

CeeJay81 · 12/04/2024 07:41

Our tiny town(just over 2000 pop, yes that's a town in wales) has a reasonable amount of facilities but could do with a supermarket that isn't coop. We are use to travelling a long long way for stuff, that's rural wales for you. The town everyone goes to for shopping etc needs more leisure facilities. It's a university town and a bit boring. There is nothing to do there like ten pin bowling or something.

ALunchbox · 12/04/2024 07:41

An NHS dentist.
Better public transport.

Basically the sort of things the government should be working on

jellybeeanie · 12/04/2024 07:51

A park.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 12/04/2024 07:52

A beach.
We live about 75 miles from the nearest coast!!

shellyleppard · 12/04/2024 07:57

A post office

Viksono · 12/04/2024 08:08

A supermarket that isn’t Tesco, wish we had a Sainsburys/asda/morrisons.

TheThingIsYeah · 12/04/2024 08:14

@CeeJay81 you only have a Coop? I shall pray for you. Their prices are so eye wateringly expensive they must make the sort of profits that would make Tesco blush.

ohtowinthelottery · 12/04/2024 08:15

In our village, a pub (the last one closed 30 years ago).
In our local town, a greengrocers and a fishmonger (we have them as market traders for 4 hours on a Friday morning but not everyone can get there then)

NeedWineNow · 12/04/2024 08:24

A decent pub
An Italian
Better bus service. It’s limited at best at the moment and we have nothing on Sundays. We do have a train station though which helps.
An NHS dentist

CeeJay81 · 12/04/2024 08:27

@TheThingIsYeah it's ok for me, as it's my place of work, so I get 30% off coop own brand. So meat, milk, fruit&veg and bread are cheaper than tesco/aldi. You either have to travel 18 miles to the local town or do home delivery otherwise.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 12/04/2024 08:30

A coastline, and a few mountains. I come from Dublin which is on the coast, around a bay, with a half ring of small friendly mountains around it on the land side.

Now I live in London, which is awesome, but it could really use a nice bay to look over and some decent hills in the background.

crackofdoom · 12/04/2024 08:31

A bit of ethnic diversity wouldn't go amiss in our rural Cornish village.
