Dd is 7 and for a while I’ve been mum. Tonight as I gave her dinner she said thanks mummy, and inside I was weeping! Obviously didn’t say anything to her otherwise it would be omg mum stop 😂

I want to be mummy for years yet! Didn’t realise how much I loved it.

My 4 year old said “oh MUM!” Today 😂 i felt my heart crack a little

purpleme12 · 10/04/2024 18:36

my child still does at 10
I'm pretty sure she might say mum in front of her friends

Gingerlygreen · 10/04/2024 18:36

My 10 year old recently asked me if she could call us Mom and Dad, it's taking a bit of getting used to but I can see she'd be a bit embarrassed referring to me as Mommy when she goes to high school in September

2 boys, 7 and 8. Mostly mummy still. Sometimes mum.
Occasionally Bro or Dude!!

TerriPie · 10/04/2024 18:37

Pretty sure my DS came into the world saying 'Mother', he's always liked making me feel old 🤣

Theothername · 10/04/2024 18:37

I’ve graduated to “mother🙄” now as the mum of teens.

Mumaway · 10/04/2024 18:41

DD8 and 10, still Mummy (although I suspect they call me Mum to their friends). My mummy is still mummy. I'm 44.

beachsandseaicecream · 10/04/2024 18:41

My DS is nearly 8 and I'm still Mummy.

AgnesWickfield · 10/04/2024 18:42

I can't remember...maybe y5 ish onwards.?? There was definitely a time when I was both - mummy when they wanted something, mum the rest of the time!

Oooeeeoooaa · 10/04/2024 18:44

When they were about 2.

Cadela · 10/04/2024 18:44

Dd is super early then, sob! I don’t even know when it changed, I honestly didn’t notice until she called me mummy tonight.

Mine are 6 and 9 and both call me mommy still, although I think the 9 year old may use mom when speaking with her friends.

Lovepeaceunderstanding · 10/04/2024 18:44

They haven’t, my eldest is 34. ☺️

TheHeadOfTheHouse · 10/04/2024 18:45

My dd is nearly 12 and ds is 7 and both say mummy, never mum.

Desecratedcoconut · 10/04/2024 18:45

I don't like it, so they never did.

TheMuskratOfDestiny · 10/04/2024 18:45

Still Mummy 8 and 11. Though I think eldest might say mum with friends.

Rainbowbrite83 · 10/04/2024 18:45

Both mine call me 'mummy' still. My DS is 13!

He calls me 'mum' in front of his mates though!

I don't mind either way..he can carry on calling me mummy for as long as he wants tbh

TreesAndSandAndWaves · 10/04/2024 18:45

My 17 will still call me mummy (jokingly) if he wants something 😅

And I called my 88 year old mother mummy just last week (although again, jokingly).

notsuchafrugalkitty · 10/04/2024 18:45

My eldest is nearly 21 and he still says mummy sometimes.....which isn't as weird as it might sound, I love it. My DD still says mummy from time to time but my 16 year old DS prefers 'mother'.

Caseypacey · 10/04/2024 18:46

My son is in his twenties and calls me Mumma. Not every time, but often on texts and every birthday and Christmas card. He’s never called me mummy.

Didsomeonesaydogs · 10/04/2024 18:48

My two still call me mummy but refer to me as mum. They’re 22 & 20.

StarDolphins · 10/04/2024 18:49

My DD7 still calls me Mummy & if she ever calls me Mum, I will correct her mistake and remind her it’s Mummy🤣

She did just ask me to not put a little post it note message in her lunch box ever again though🤣 I did it 2 years ago but she’s clearly still traumatised by it!

StopStartStop · 10/04/2024 18:49

The late Queen, Elizabeth II, called her mother 'mummy' throughout her life.
My dd calls me 'mama' at 41. Dgd, 12, calls her parents 'mama' and 'dada'. And?
If I called my dad 'daddy' when I was a child, he answered 'What-y?' So I went for 'dad'.

Houseinawood · 10/04/2024 18:54

17 here and I’m still Mummy was Mama for years and now Mummy. I’m not Mum.

Desecratedcoconut · 10/04/2024 18:57

Sorry, at the risk of appearing dense, what does Mama sound like from older children/ adults ...like Mam-ma or Mahmar?
