Call your local police station?

TesticularHeft · 04/04/2024 18:16

Honestly, I think you need to chill out. It's likely just a big dog hence no muzzle. Mumsnet is totally over the top about this so I'm sure I'll be told I'm wrong.

Call the dog warden for your area of you have one or the police.

Yummychickenburger · 04/04/2024 18:16

Thank you yh I will do

What a bizarre response! Like the OP can’t trust her own eyes.

HazelLion · 04/04/2024 18:25

Don't run from a dog, it entices them to chase you.

Don’t ever run, you become the game and the dog’s ( any dog) instinct is to chase. Safest thing would be to get back in your car, shut the doors.
Call 101 and report.

NoTouch · 04/04/2024 18:49

It must have been scary, but you need to not overreact. Running is never a good idea, you would never out run a dog and it just stimulates/excites it.

A better idea if you were concerned would have been to calmly put your dc back in the car shut the door, calmly get in yourself and call the police.

Concretejungle1 · 04/04/2024 18:50

I think you’re over reacting. Unless it’s actually acting in anyway aggressive, just looking at you from over the street shouldn’t be causing you to not want to leave the house.
id try to calm down about it

HurryupHenry · 04/04/2024 18:53

I also think that you are overreacting. It’s a dog, not a lion.

Are you scared of dogs in general? It might be worth seeking support as you don’t want dc to pick up on your fear.

Imagine “shaking like a leaf” because a dog looked at you. And then creating a thread about it”

I’m an animal owner, multiple breeds, of nearly five decades.
I would shake too if one of these illegal dogs set its sights on me.

You need to educate yourself.

Kelly51 · 04/04/2024 18:56

Agreed, running is the worse thing you can do, walk quickly and calmly no staring.
Tbf many large bull breeds are mistaken for XLs, you sound a bit OTT, the owner could have been coming along behind the dog.

Kelly51 · 04/04/2024 18:57

Also if you were getting out car and were that worried get back in car.

Yummychickenburger · 04/04/2024 18:59

@Coshei imagine one staring straight at you ready to pounce how would you feel? Let's hope your made of stone ey??

Fatfriends23 · 04/04/2024 18:59

I would react the same as you OP. Except I would have got myself and DS back in the car immediately!!

Gymmum82 · 04/04/2024 19:00

Not all big bull breeds are XL bullies. It was not aggressive. You were not harmed. Calm down.

vodkaredbullgirl · 04/04/2024 19:00

Never run from a dog, just walk quickly or get back in the car.

Have you read about how many people are attacked by bully's

Yummychickenburger · 04/04/2024 19:01

@Kelly51 I was quite far from my car when I saw it. Other wise I would have done that.

Kelly51 · 04/04/2024 19:01

Went from being up the road to staring straight at you ready to pounce how would you feel? seriously get a grip.

Pollyannamex · 04/04/2024 19:02

I would feel the same OP they are a menace

Alwaysalwayscold · 04/04/2024 19:07

I'd have been scared too. They're known killers.

NCFTS · 04/04/2024 19:08

I remember being scared of dogs as a child. A dog near my home was often off-lead on some council owned grass, I remember spotting it one day and running and the bloody thing chased me. As other have said, never run. I think 101 would probably deal with it because it’s meant to be muzzled. I saw one walking with its owner recently without a muzzle, I pulled my DC well away from it. They should be banned rather than expecting their dim owners to muzzle them and keep them on a lead, because the types who own them aren’t usually the type to follow laws and rules.
