I bloody shit myself and walked fast then ran with my child. Can't believe it was just free of lead no muzzle no owner. I'm still shaking like a leaf as he looked like he was going to chase us. Now I'm to scared to go out incase its around all the news has prob made me worse, but how can I protect me and my son if we see it again how do I report??

@Devilshands sorry, are you calling me scummy? Quite the fucking pedestal you're putting yourself on there with such a snide comment based on a differing opinion. I don't even own an XL bully.

I said the owners of the dogs are scummy. I never said you were…you managed that all by yourself.

@TesticularHeft You are probably right about how any dog might behave under the circumstances. However, the dog shouldn’t be off the lead in the first place or without a muzzle as that is the law now. Every dog should be kept under control in any case.

Edited

Agreed. Some dog owners disgust me. If you really loved your dog you'd be following rules to the letter wouldn't you but this video and the daily mail article describing the attack is blown well out of proportion.

I personally think all dogs should be muzzled in public, owners should be licensed and they should only be allowed off lead once a test has been passed or qualification granted. There are too many out of control dogs out there due to entitled owners thinking Fido deserves to go sniff other dogs and cause havoc.

@Devilshands are you ok hun? Stop with the digs. You're like a guardian breed all on your own.

JosieJones1987 · 05/04/2024 06:29

If it was going to chase you, it would have done so.

Whatifthehokeycokey · 05/04/2024 08:21

Call the dog warden.

valensiwalensi · 05/04/2024 08:27

if I saw one like that then yes I would be worried because it would now indicate that it’s owner was a brain dead moron because after all, aren’t we always told “it’s the owners not the dogs”? Well here’s an example of a dickhead dangerous owner and therefore that dog is automatically now dangerous to me.

I can completely understand you. I have 3 small children and on several occasions I have crossed the road/took a different direction when I've seen a large/intimidating looking dog.

I have had too much bad experience with dogs and their irresponsible owners to be blasé about the risk.

I completely agree with you. You're in charge of an animal that can potentially seriously hurt or kill people.

Of course you should need a license.

superplumb · 05/04/2024 08:47

I'd be scared too. If you have a description of it, I'd email the 101 site.
A local bully near us killed a dog ( made the national papers). They are breeding from it now and as people in the local area are rightly complaining when they see it out and about, the owner now walks it in the local park near children, unmuzzled.

That's the thing isn't it... Xl bully dogs are like lions?”

Not really. Lions don’t attack randomly. If one has eaten, you can walk past and it generally won’t bat an eyelid.

These monstrosities seem to attack on a whim.

Some people have forgotten that they are banned off lead by law, and for a reason.

Come the warmer climate and more of us out - if in doubt, report it to cops. If you know someone near you that is breaking the law, report them.
