Just came back from my grocery shop got my toddler out of the car. He was whinging picked him up looked up as you do and there was an xl bully just staring from up the road. I bloody shit myself and walked fast then ran with my child. Can't believe it was just free of lead no muzzle no owner. I'm still shaking like a leaf as he looked like he was going to chase us. Now I'm to scared to go out incase its around all the news has prob made me worse, but how can I protect me and my son if we see it again how do I report??

OP posts:

yes they are big powerful dogs and can kill which is why these rules have been put in place. If I saw one out of control I would report it but this dog wasn’t out of control and showed no interest in coming near OP.

Yes they are big powerful dogs that can kill, so if it’s ’out of control’ then it’s probably too late to report it.

I've never seen this kind of fear in real life over an xl. Ours is approached by all walks of life on a daily basis. He gets fussed where ever we go, but on here everyone seems to be terrified by them 🤷🏻‍♀️

We met a lovely one last weekend. Gentle and didn’t bat an eyelid despite many children running quite close to him. I feel sorry for the bad rep they get because of terrible owners who abuse them.

The dog didn’t chase you? Didn’t bark at you? You even ran and it didn’t take chase?

I think you’re being a bit OTT. If you report this dog as being out and not on a lead/muzzle chances are it would be PTS, the dog has done nothing wrong, the owner has obviously done wrong because the dog got out but these things happen.

I know people are scared of XL Bullies but like most dogs, they are mainly friendly. Yes it shouldn’t have been out but it didn’t show any aggression or even come near you.

And for those saying “haven’t you seen how many people have been killed by xl bullies”, it’s not actually that many if you consider how many XL bullies their are, yes they are big powerful dogs and can kill which is why these rules have been put in place. If I saw one out of control I would report it but this dog wasn’t out of control and showed no interest in coming near OP.

If it has an irresponsible owner or has just been dumped chances are the dog will be pts anyway. That’s on the owner not the fault of anyone reporting.
I say report away.Better pts than attacking innocent people and other animals and having another incident requiring the attacking dog being shot in the street.

Couldn't you have just got back in the car? As a pose to running up the road.

You could have done the downward dog to really confuse it, or a move from Madonna’s vogue. They’re great poses.

Gowlett · 04/04/2024 19:42

I’d be fucking terrified, too…

ManchesterBeatrice · 04/04/2024 20:01

@JaneSeymourTheOnlyOneHeTrulyLoved 🤣

Was going to mention this article.

I don't know why so many people are down playing it. If you saw a tiger in the street you'd do something about it

Yeah you'll be dead before you finish the call

I think I would be less scared of a lion than an unmuzzeled XL Bully!
There are reports of these unregistered dogs being abandoned because the owners don't want to follow the new legislation. So OP could easily be right.

Seriously? This is beyond ridiculous.

ChampagneGold · 04/04/2024 20:15

Don't blame you for shitting yourself OP. I would have too.

And I've been a dog owner for 20 years and am a huge animal lover in general. But I have absolutely no time for this breed at all.

You should call the police though.

takemeawayagain · 04/04/2024 20:20

The problem is you don't know the nature of the dog. It might be lovely, it might be dangerous. But the OP has her child with her and has no idea which it is. I don't blame you for being scared OP, I remember being chased by a Doberman as a teenager and it was terrifying.

TesticularHeft · 04/04/2024 20:21

@andHelenknowsimmiserablenow i'd stop thinking if I were you. You're not doing it right.

No right minded person is more scared of an XL bully than a fucking lion.

CombatBarbie · 04/04/2024 20:22

Give me strength, if it was rabid and wild I'd get your point. Would. Your response have been the same if it was a GSD, staffy or poodle?

Remagirl · 04/04/2024 20:38

Are you familiar with dog breeds? Are you sure it was an XL Bully type breed? I love all animals and have had dogs all my life and I hate XLs, this is largely because of the owners they attract. You can report it to101 or online to local police.

Devilshands · 04/04/2024 21:14

I always find it so interesting on these threads that the rudest and most aggressive posters are the ones who defend XL bullies (and the owners of them).

Astounding coincidence.

NeverNameChange · 04/04/2024 21:18

I'd have shit myself. They've been banned for a reason. I don't mind dogs generally but why anyone would want an xl bully as a pet is beyond me.

Im sure that makes the families of people killed by XL bullies feel so much better knowing your dog hasn't killed anyone

What exactly is your point?

Wooloohooloo · 04/04/2024 21:29

OP was over reacting? They've killed grown men and she was alone with a toddler!

EatenEasterChocsAlready · 04/04/2024 21:31

That's the thing isn't it... Xl bully dogs are like lions?

Lion400 · 04/04/2024 21:32

arbitary · 04/04/2024 19:34

Yep. They’ve been bred to be fighting dogs. By idiotic humans. Aggression is in the dogs genes. Poor dogs, poor victims.

What's your view on the article linked about a loose dog attacking people on the street in London?

Neither rabid or wild but people ended up in hospital

Funny. I very much find the opposite.
