I bloody shit myself and walked fast then ran with my child. Can't believe it was just free of lead no muzzle no owner. I'm still shaking like a leaf as he looked like he was going to chase us. Now I'm to scared to go out incase its around all the news has prob made me worse, but how can I protect me and my son if we see it again how do I report??

@Coshei imagine one staring straight at you ready to pounce how would you feel? Let's hope your made of stone ey??

If it were just over the road not really bothered honestly.
if it were near me, unless again it were acting odd i wouldn't be bothered.
I’ve lived through people being scared and crossing the road for rotties, mastifs, staffies.
im not a dog person but im not bothered by them either.

ManchesterBeatrice · 04/04/2024 19:08

Couldn't you have just got back in the car? As a pose to running up the road.

calligraphee · 04/04/2024 19:08

I would have been scared too. Report the dog to the police.

Yummychickenburger · 04/04/2024 19:01

@Kelly51 I was quite far from my car when I saw it. Other wise I would have done that.

Oh okay, this wasn't massively clear from the OP.

Oh stop being dramatic...... ready to pounce my arse!

OldTinHat · 04/04/2024 19:11

It's a dog, not a man eating lion/dinosaur.

Did it chase you? Eat your children?

Or was it just a dog?

MrsSkylerWhite · 04/04/2024 19:13

These monstrous creatures kill people.

The dog looked at you. Nothing else happened.
If you were really this scared I wonder why you didn’t call the police right away instead of going home and cresting a thread.
There is some serious unhealthy attitude regarding dogs on this site.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 04/04/2024 19:15

Never run! I know it’s instinct but it’s a bad idea with most animals, you shouldn’t act like prey.

NewNameHello · 04/04/2024 19:16

Just in the Daily Mail tonight a report of an out of control xl bully in London. These dogs are awful. They all need culling. Id be scared for my life

HurryupHenry · 04/04/2024 18:53

I also think that you are overreacting. It’s a dog, not a lion.

Are you scared of dogs in general? It might be worth seeking support as you don’t want dc to pick up on your fear.

I think I would be less scared of a lion than an unmuzzeled XL Bully!
There are reports of these unregistered dogs being abandoned because the owners don't want to follow the new legislation. So OP could easily be right.

It’s a man-eating dog tbf. Can people only be scared of known dangerous things if they are the person unlucky enough to have their life ruined by them?

Why TAF would anyone want to keep a thing that was big enough to prey on their children ?

Anyone wanting to keep these monstrosities needs psychiatric help.

Forhecksake · 04/04/2024 19:19

"Man eating"?🍽️

Ilovegoldies · 04/04/2024 19:20

They are horrible dogs usually owned by horrible people. Ignore anyone who said you over reacted. Apart from the don't run bit. That's good advice.

So if you were genuinely scared for your life would you call the police or would you post on mumsnet?

I suspect that the op knows that she is being dramatic or she would have called the police.

MrsSkylerWhite · 04/04/2024 19:22

Hope that she did both. There’s no place, rhyme or reason for these monstrosities.

Well didn't two of them rip the throat out of one man when he went over the road to protect his mom in Stonnall?

Lovemusic82 · 04/04/2024 19:23

The dog didn’t chase you? Didn’t bark at you? You even ran and it didn’t take chase?

I think you’re being a bit OTT. If you report this dog as being out and not on a lead/muzzle chances are it would be PTS, the dog has done nothing wrong, the owner has obviously done wrong because the dog got out but these things happen.

I know people are scared of XL Bullies but like most dogs, they are mainly friendly. Yes it shouldn’t have been out but it didn’t show any aggression or even come near you.

And for those saying “haven’t you seen how many people have been killed by xl bullies”, it’s not actually that many if you consider how many XL bullies their are, yes they are big powerful dogs and can kill which is why these rules have been put in place. If I saw one out of control I would report it but this dog wasn’t out of control and showed no interest in coming near OP.

bingoringo4 · 04/04/2024 19:27

I've never seen this kind of fear in real life over an xl. Ours is approached by all walks of life on a daily basis. He gets fussed where ever we go, but on here everyone seems to be terrified by them 🤷🏻‍♀️

If the dog was PTS that would be entirely it's owners fault. The laws exist for good reason, it should absolutely be reported and dealt with.

AchillesHeelys · 04/04/2024 19:29

It doesn’t sound like you were in immediate danger, but I would still report it if not muzzled or on a lead. These dogs do kill people, those precautions are in place for a reason.

It's the owners responsibility to keep people safe from their dog, not guilt trip op to feel bad if its pts or removed

hattie43 · 04/04/2024 19:32

TesticularHeft · 04/04/2024 18:16

Honestly, I think you need to chill out. It's likely just a big dog hence no muzzle. Mumsnet is totally over the top about this so I'm sure I'll be told I'm wrong.

Call the dog warden for your area of you have one or the police.

I agree . Each sighting now seems to give rise to hysteria

Toastednut · 04/04/2024 19:33

Absolutely terrifyingly. I wish they'd round them all up and euthanise the lot. Report it OP, everyone needs to whenever they see one of the damn things out unmuzzled and not on a lead.
