Please Help the toilet is blocked

Tried plunging it with 2 different plungers and it's totally blocked the plungers aren't working and poured hot water down. My Dad has tried plunging it too and said I'll have to get emergancy plumber out. I'm so embarrased. Is there a better style plunger that anyone knows that I should be using? I'm so embarrased having a plumber come in to our blocked poop toilet even though that's what they do. Any one have any advice what I could do please to unblock it without getting the plumber out.

Get a mop and tie a plastic bag over the head, use that to do some vigorous plunging. Then pour a bucketload of hot water down.

Yep. This will work 100%.
Be careful of splash back!

Dreamer2027 · 01/04/2024 19:01

Should I get the plunger that @Remagirl mentioned at the start of my post would that be really good or prob just accept i need a plumber. It had good reviews about it but £15 and that's a lot for me.

I haven't got a mop

Eh? How do you clean your kitchen floor?

WhatFlavourIsIt · 01/04/2024 19:04

Seriously, call a plumber. With everything you're sticking down there, you could actually be making it worse & compacting the blockage further.

AllHopeandRainbows · 01/04/2024 19:05

This happened to me once in a caravan 🫣 I couldn’t believe it worked but it did:

Pour in half a bottle of washing up liquid. Leave it for about an hour (this softens the toilet paper)

Then pour a large bucket of boiling water into the toilet from a height (so that it pours in forcefully)

This worked first time for me so fingers crossed it does for you 🙏🏼 good luck!

Dreamer2027 · 01/04/2024 19:05

@Terrribletwos I've got a flash mop

Half hour might even be long enough

NestaArcheron · 01/04/2024 19:07

Get an empty 2litre bottle of pop and cut the bottom off - the bottom not the neck. Hold by the neck and use as a make shift plunger. Works every single time for me!

VeryBusyDoingNothing · 01/04/2024 19:07

Agree with others that you need to bail out all that excess water and then force the blockage through perhaps as ppl said we it pouring bucket of hot water force fully from a height. Good luck OP. It's a nightmare, been there, but keep calm, you got this.

stayathomegardener · 01/04/2024 19:07

Personally I wouldn't be calling a plumber out on a Bank Holiday especially if you can go to your Mums.

  1. Are the sinks draining or not?
  2. If just the loo bail it out until almost empty then hot water from a height. Might take a few goes.
  3. Check for a manhole cover in your garden or the road. Lift lid and check for blockages in the open pipe work.
doubleshift · 01/04/2024 19:07

My 'home emergencies' cover with my house insurance would cover this as the only toilet. Do you have similar?

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 01/04/2024 19:08

Somebody has always said 'Check outside to see if the main pipe flowing O.K'

If it isn't then no amount of stuffing your hand down is going to sort it unless you are perhaps Mr Tickle.

Honestly I wouldn't at this stage (particularly if it's not cleared by the morning) spend anymore money on other tools and bit the bullet and call a plumber.

GemmaFoster · 01/04/2024 19:14

Please try locating the access chamber outside your house. There may be more than one. I had this and after spending a fortune on products & even drain rods found that the blockage was in the access chamber. A plant had grown into it and paper & poo had got stuck. Glove up & good luck !

Skiphopbump · 01/04/2024 19:19

I echo this saying look outside. A few weeks ago I thought my downstairs toilet was blocked but it was the outside drain.

Pollypocket81 · 01/04/2024 19:20

Before you call a plumber, at least try popping on some gloves and getting your hands/arms in as far as possible with your fingers/hands up around the part of the toilet bowl/pipe that you can't see when looking from the top.

They've already bin bagged their arm and tried

Dreamer2027 · 01/04/2024 19:24

I bailed out the water like a few of you said then it just blocks up again. @Pollypocket81 I wrapped a binbag around my hand and arm and stuck it down that didn't work either

Definitely think it's further down then, also the fact it's not draining I'm thinking the blockage might be outside

Tardigrade001 · 01/04/2024 19:41

If you don't have a mop, you can make something like a mop by tying several plastic bags on to a stick or one of your plungers. They can go on top of each other. Basically making something like a big jellyfish. Needs to be big enough to loosely fill the hole but allow movement. Then plunge with that, vigorously. It's really good at moving all the water.
