Please Help the toilet is blocked

Tried plunging it with 2 different plungers and it's totally blocked the plungers aren't working and poured hot water down. My Dad has tried plunging it too and said I'll have to get emergancy plumber out. I'm so embarrased. Is there a better style plunger that anyone knows that I should be using? I'm so embarrased having a plumber come in to our blocked poop toilet even though that's what they do. Any one have any advice what I could do please to unblock it without getting the plumber out.

If you don't have one you need a proper loo plunger as posted by someone up thread. The old fashioned rubber ones are good for sinks but not loos.

LawrieForShepherdsBoy · 01/04/2024 18:11

Good luck

LIZS · 01/04/2024 18:11

Are the shower and sink draining ok? If so the blockage is nearer the toilet/u bend and you should be able to clear with a plunger, drain snake or unwound wire coat hanger, or gloved arm.

Is it the only toilet in the house, if not it's worth leaving it for an hour and then trying to unblock it again.

Westfacing · 01/04/2024 18:14

It will only be the S bend that is blocked. Either used an unwound wire coat hanger to poke and push with, or put on some disposable gloves and have a feel around.

The waste pipe is very wide and unlikely to be blocked, it's usually just the S bend. I know this from when my teenage son used to block the bloody loo with too much paper!

Have you tried washing up liquid?

You need a good amount and leave it for at least half an hour

This definitely works

Dreamer2027 · 01/04/2024 18:25

Was going to go and get bicarb and vinegar. I was putting washing powder down but nothing happened I'll get bottle of washing up liquid now to try.

That makes it more of a panic, my brother always used to block ours when I was younger and it was literally always when I had a stomach ache and needed to go.. coat hanger is best option.

Andthereyougo · 01/04/2024 18:27

Liquid hand soap is supposed to work, about 500 ml. Leave half hour.

Also try a garden bamboo cane if you have one. Often works where plungers fail.

Sometimes the only thing is to get on your marigolds and stick your hand down.

That’s what I was gonna say! Did this once then looked into why it was being blocked (the flush mechanism was faulty).

Get a mop and tie a plastic bag over the head, use that to do some vigorous plunging. Then pour a bucketload of hot water down.

This is what I've done since reading it on here last year. Works every time.

Dh blocked ours the other week.

the day I was due day surgery, so he had to sort it with me shouting instructions after we got back from the hospital.

he used https://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Flexible-Coil-Drain-Cleaner---4-65m/p/500594

fortunately we live v close to a Wickes.

its basically a flexible road with a handles. You plunge it down the toilet and the push and twist.

dh managed it and he’s not the most handy of people (to say the least!)

he then rinsed and dried it and coiled it up in a bin bag at the bag of the cupboard of doom ready for next time.

he scooped some of the toilet contents out first into a bucket.

thankfully I wasn’t well enough to play any part in the proceedings.

Are you ok to last the night without a toilet or are you friendly enough with neighbours to borrow there's?

Dreamer2027 · 01/04/2024 18:48

We will have go to my mums toilet if we need it. Didn't know if I should try a better plunger tomorrow or just get the plumber out.

I've always found CIF lemon cream cleaner works, no idea why. Shove a load down there & leave it for a couple of hours.

Honestly I think at this stage I'd call a plumber, at least it'll be sorted, no guarantee a different plunger would work.

LIZS · 01/04/2024 18:53

Can you bail out the water then scrape/plunge out any debris from the bend

That might help tbh, all that water in there you won't plunge properly

Terrribletwos · 01/04/2024 18:58

Really think you just need to get a plumber to fix.

I used to use those over the side of the pan smelly things until after my kids (very young) were forever dislodging them and therefore blocking the u bend! Never have them now.

Dreamer2027 · 01/04/2024 18:58

So if I get a jug and scoop out the water then plunge @LIZS @Gemz1010 ill give that a go

wire coat hanger works every time. Bend it so it’s straight then push it down with the hook end and just keep pulling some out if need be (into a bag). As soon as some air gets through it all clears. I always put fairy liquid down first then pour the warm water in a bucket from height just to make it easier. Saw it on a YouTube video years ago and has worked even when my toddler has filled it with toilet roll
