Please Help the toilet is blocked

Tried plunging it with 2 different plungers and it's totally blocked the plungers aren't working and poured hot water down. My Dad has tried plunging it too and said I'll have to get emergancy plumber out. I'm so embarrased. Is there a better style plunger that anyone knows that I should be using? I'm so embarrased having a plumber come in to our blocked poop toilet even though that's what they do. Any one have any advice what I could do please to unblock it without getting the plumber out.

Is there a shower in that room? I’d throw some biological washing powder down then take the head off the shower (important lesson - also carefully remove any washer or o ring) and then use the shower hose to run continual hot water into the toilet until it clears. Obviously only works if it’s draining a little bit!

This sorted my loo out after kids blocked it totally with too much paper etc.

Have you tried washing up liquid?

You need a good amount and leave it for at least half an hour

I poured lots of bowls of soapy water down and continued to after every use. I used washing powder because it got it cleaner and smelled nice. Don’t worry though OP, plumbers know what toilets are used for.

Dreamer2027 · 01/04/2024 16:29

I'll go try washing powder now thankyou

We've got a bendy metal tube thing which has always worked. You want something flexible which you can push right into the U bend.

SocksShmocks · 01/04/2024 16:29

Pour a big bucket of water down from a height. Like a huge flush

shellyleppard · 01/04/2024 16:30

Cover the toilet seat tightly with clingfilm. When you flush and the cling film rises push down really hard. Also try angling the plunger and flushing at the same time. My sons regularly block the toilet and it usually works 🤔🤣

Sometimes the only thing is to get on your marigolds and stick your hand down.

bradpittsbathwater · 01/04/2024 16:31

2 cups white vinegar to 1 cup bicarbonate of soda does the trick. Understand you might not have these at home though!

Balloonhearts · 01/04/2024 16:31

When you do the hot water, pour it from a height. So it goes in more forcefully and try a mop in a plastic bag rather than a plunger.

Elisheva · 01/04/2024 16:31

Get a mop and tie a plastic bag over the head, use that to do some vigorous plunging. Then pour a bucketload of hot water down.

Tickletuesday · 01/04/2024 16:32

cover your hand in a bin bag and feel down there, you might be able to dislodge it. Keep plunging. They work eventually.

mathanxiety · 01/04/2024 16:34

Pour in a cup full of wash up liquid.
Let it sit for an hour or so.
Fill a bucket with hot water.
Empty the full bucket from a height into the loo. The waterfall effect is important here - don't pour slowly; the bucket should be four feet or so above the loo.

This should do it.

TheFormidableMrsC · 01/04/2024 16:36

Wire coat hanger has always worked for me in the past.

Dreamer2027 · 01/04/2024 16:36

Looks like some good advice on here thankyou so I'm going to get on trying to get it unblocked hopefully and hoping I won't have to get a plumber out thankyou

Yep, have had to do this a couple of times in the past. Bin bag x2 in case of holes over hand and arm, hand up in the u bend, scrape the poop off the inside. Maybe TMI but too much chocolate makes poop like clay, so this time of year is baaaaad for loo blockages.

porridgecake · 01/04/2024 16:38

I use a couple of scoops of biological powder and leave it for a couple of hours.
Don't pour boiling water directly into your toilet. It will crack. Just chuck some hot water in before you flush it, after the washing powder has done its work. If it doesn't work the first time, just repeat. If necessary an un folded wire coat hanger can be useful.

BCBird · 01/04/2024 16:39

I use washing up.liquid. put a bottle down loo, leave as long as possible then see if thst does the trick . I usually have some cheap washing-up.liquid on standby

porridgecake · 01/04/2024 16:39

Bear in mind that you might want to cover your face before pouring water from a height...

PerspicaciaTick · 01/04/2024 16:40

I go in the garden, open the small access cover to the pipe and prod the blockage with a bamboo cane. Gets things moving when the blockage is further down from the actual toilet

This. Old fashioned mop head with a plastic bag tied around it - has never failed me

Tiny2018 · 01/04/2024 16:45

Two words unfortunately. Hand, gloves.

AhBiscuits · 01/04/2024 16:47

Sometimes it does clear on its own after a few hours of soaking and regular flushing.

Lorelaigilmore88 · 01/04/2024 16:53

Is it definitely just blocked with poo and loo roll? Just wondering if you have any kids who maybe shoved something down there?
Is it draining away at all?
Ours blocked recently 9pm sunday night... the water level was almost at the top of the bowl. I was desperate not to call a plumber out. I scooped out all I could with a bucket and rubber gloves and then flushed repeatedly and after 30 mins it unblocked itself. I guess it depends if there is any drain at all....
