Anthurium houseplant from Tesco. These houseplants are for sale everywhere and because they are so common I had always failed to see how lovely they are.

Not only is it pretty, it is a real doer. It grows so cheerfully and sturdily that after a few months it has become unique, well established, my own dear plant and not the ubiquitous supermarket staple.

The idiot cat was a bit of a bargain - a return train fare and a box of Felix pouches for the mum.

Other than that, a £2 reduced to clear Monstera from Waitrose, a £1.50 avocado that is now a small tree in the living room (and the fruit bit mashed on toast with bacon was rather lovely at the time), a £4.99 Sansiviera that's now six separate plants and a £3 bag of Turmeric root that's entertaining me with the long leaves some of the leftovers decided to grow.

How did you grow a tree from a £1.50 avocado? I am impressed and want to copy you. [Eyeing up the avocado in the fruit bowl now]

CarrieMoonbeams · 01/04/2024 16:27

A tin of tomato or mushroom soup, with decent cheese on toast to dip in it 😋.

A new book, especially when I find the one I want on eBay, used but in very good condition. I love a bargain!

White Company diffuser oils, Seychelles is my favourite.

Decent socks, I bought the White Stuff wool ones at Christmas and they're lovely, so cosy.

We're old now, but one of our favourite things to do is to drive back to where we were brought up, buy a big bag of chips from the chippy at lunchtime and we walk along, taking turns to dig in to the bag - reminds us of when we used to do the exact same thing when we were teenagers and first going out together!

A really good bottle of red wine, Argentinian Malbec is currently my favourite.

A lovely big teddy bear throw from Dunelm.

ReadyForSeason · 01/04/2024 17:06

@userxx Isle of Paradise medium, make me look sunkissed overnight, neutral skin tone light. My 24 yo DD gave them to me to try - they works better than Autograph and St Tropez drops, and better than St Tropez sprays.
