Surely you don't open your Easter eggs until it's actually Easter? ie Sunday.

They can be eaten any day of the week. We had them at work on Tuesday.

Mystro202 · 30/03/2024 19:52

Half a kit kat one and a small buttons one, we're going to hell 😝😁 🤣👹

If you don't eat a few in advance how do you know whether you'll actually like them on the day?! It seems like sensible forward planning to me.

Testing is a very important part of the process - need to start as early as possible!

As an adult I don’t understand why you need to wait until tomorrow? We don’t give them to each other as gifts but have bought a few to share between adults & been tucking in since yesterday! I’ve been enjoying a minstrels egg & got my eye on a Malteasers one!

I’ve never seen a minstrels egg ! Need to look ! Although when I went earlier to Tescos to get one for my niece they were wiped off the shelves !

What's the difference between eating a creme egg or mini eggs any time but not eating a big egg until Sunday? I don't even know why they're eggs anyway but they do taste unreal! I've just eaten a tonne of crunchie bites shell and feel sick but soooo worth it

TheWelshposter · 30/03/2024 20:19

People eat Christmas food all through December so it's not too unusual to eat Easter eggs over Easter weekend surely?! If I had one I would definitely get stuck in!

totally acceptable , I’m sure all that hard work has worked up an appetite 😆

There are still some left over 😈

Yearendjoy · 30/03/2024 20:35

I've not had any yet. I genuinely didn't realise people ate them before Easter Day, it's just not a thing in my world.

PoorHammyHamster · 30/03/2024 21:03

Also my dc have eaten them over the last few weeks. I have a very very large family. Last year they received over 20 each. Plus the likes of bunnies, sweets, small gifts etc its bonkers ( i do ask family not to as its too much) but they don't listen instead they spread it out.
It lasts ages, we help them eat it too.

For me it ruins the fun of special occasions to 'cheat' on them. Don't care what others do but I find it enjoyable to reserve certain things for specific times. It makes it special and looking forward to something is half the pleasure for me.

So none and I'll accept that I'm very lame!

Esgaroth · 30/03/2024 22:13

Reminds me of this sketch though 😆

Okay guys seeing as Easter is tomorrow , what did every body have for their dinner ? Let’s change the convo a bit 🤣🤣

Southern fried chicken and chips, and half an Easter egg Grin

QueSyrahSyrah · 31/03/2024 07:18

To be fair most people give each other eggs on Easter Sunday so unless you are buying them just to eat yourself, you are unlikely to have any to eat.

I bought one for DH (and he one for me) but we're not children so I just gave it to him when I came home with it on Tuesday. He bought mine Wednesday and did the same. I also got one from work on Thursday.

I don't see Easter as being another Christmas with a fixed time to do things. It's just a long weekend. In any case I eat mince pies all December long so why wouldn't I eat crème eggs in advance of Easter?

SameSameButDeliverance · 31/03/2024 07:27

Not had one at all this year (not a crème egg or similar either) and I’ve not been given or bought myself one for today, so looks like I won’t be eating any!

43ontherocksporfavor · 31/03/2024 08:37

@CheeseWisely I guess because the week prior to Easter Sunday is Holy Week and is actually a sad time ( Maundy Thursday, Good Friday etc) so it’s a time of fasting or going without(no meat on Friday) with the celebration on Sunday for the resurrection. So chocolate eggs being part of that celebration. For Christians obviously.

DilemmaDelilah · 31/03/2024 08:56

I have just been given my one and only Easter egg. A Lindor egg with mini eggs. I have just had one of the mini eggs. It should last me for at least 6 days - not because I am naturally abstemious, but because (following chemo) I now have stomach/bowel issues and have to be careful of what I eat otherwise I spend half my life on the loo 😭. Before I would have yomped down the whole thing in a day!

RampantIvy · 31/03/2024 08:59

I ate half an egg that I won in a tombola last week.

Does that count?

QueSyrahSyrah · 31/03/2024 09:07

@43ontherocksporfavor Interesting. I must say during my whole CofE education I never recall the Chocolate / Easter Bunny side of Easter being conflated with the 'He is risen' church side of Easter. The two were entirely separate in the same way that Santa wasn't in the Nativity play.

I do appreciate the historic connection of eggs to the end of lent and the idea of birth/rebirth though.

Noidea2024 · 31/03/2024 09:43

CheeseWisely the priest told the children in the Good Friday service that eggs are hollow to represent the empty tomb, and when you break them apart, they represent the discovery that Jesus was not there and had risen. I believe I was told that as a child too (as a result, they've had to look at the eggs they got at the end of the service all weekend.......until about 6am today 😉)

43ontherocksporfavor · 31/03/2024 09:55

Oh I know that @CheeseWisely but they are celebratory and so it follows that it would be at odds with the mournful mood prior to Easter Sunday.
BTW I’m a lapsed Catholic and don’t believe . All of the pagan festivals have been morphed into Christian ones and added to by later traditions from Victorians for example. Priests will say all sorts to make it fit!
