It's Count Binface/Lord Buckethead for me. I don't think he could do a worse job than his predecessors.

I presume the idiot saying 'Khan killed london' was the Britain First candidate?

Any Tories going to come back to this thread because I need some salt for my pasta 🤣🤣🤣🤣

🤨 no need to be bitchy

Babymamamama · 04/05/2024 19:45

I’m so relieved. That conservative woman showed her true colours shaking her head whilst Khan was making his speech. She was really disrespectful. Anyway bye dear doubt we’ll see you again in London. 😅

ControlShiftDelete · 05/05/2024 01:47

I bet the DM readers are fuming about this. I voted for Khan just to piss them off. Joke aside, Susan Hall is terrible.

RosaRoja · 05/05/2024 08:26

It’s a good result.

SoupDragon · 05/05/2024 08:57

I didn't bother voting in the end as I refused to vote for either Hall or Khan.

You and Rish! both!

Rish! didn't bother voting either.

SoupDragon · 05/05/2024 11:13

Only a little over 40% of people did in the London mayor election.

Darker · 05/05/2024 12:00

That’s 1.3% down on the last one, so not exceptionally low.

I had to queue to vote and was late for a meeting as a result… I pleaded democratic duties!

AnitaLoos · 05/05/2024 12:08

Voted Khan. Got Khan. Absolutely delighted. I prefer clean air to dirty air, like trees and dislike seeing children go hungry. Seeing the dismay of frothing racists & Fox & Wootton having trantrums & threatening to leave London is just the delicious cherry on the top.

OMG, what's wrong with you?!

But there were 11 other candidates you could have voted for.

MugLove · 05/05/2024 13:31

One day the Tories will learn that they might do a bit better in London if they picked a candidate who doesn’t hate London.

Comedycook · 05/05/2024 14:03

Personally I vote for the person not the party when it comes to the mayoral election. I'm not aligned with any party anyway...I'm more of a floating voter. But for a Tory to win in London they need to really be quite middle of the road rather than on the right and have quite a charismatic personality. No idea what they thought they were doing with Susan Hall.

You're assuming they have lots of choice.

If you were a middle of the road, charismatic person, would you associate yourself with the current Conservative party? The one where Braverman was a vocal spokesperson today.

Needspace2023 · 05/05/2024 23:41

I did end up voting for Count Binface 😂 then i freaked out thinking Susan Hall would win. Thank goodness that did not happen!

As for Sadiq Khan, im less fussed about ULEZ but the 20mph roads really piss me off. Have just bregrugingly paid £91 for "speeding"at 24 mph on a main road at 10 pm when it was so quiet nad have to take 3 hours off to do a speeding correction course on Zoom. The training provider cancelled last minute on Saturday and wasted our time, one man was kicking off on Zoom as he had lost a days work. Its a scam and robbing people. Apparently 1 in 4 London drivers have been fined like this on main roads.
I'm definitely not a speeder or dangerous driver. Ironically no enforcements on residential roads.
Sadiq should make safer streets from crime top of the agenda, not 20 mph roads!

Beaten by Count Binface! “Down with fascism, up with Ceefex” indeed.

I only wish Laurence Fox had filled his forms in right, so Count Binface could have beaten him too.

It's an easy money maker meanwhile the lawlessness goes on

Darker · 06/05/2024 07:45

crime is up, yes, but is it in line with what you would expect in a post-pandemic world, with cost of living crisis and very little confidence in Gov.uk after 13 years of Tory rule? The mayor only has a certain amount of influence.

People getting stabbed every other day, including teenagers is not acceptable no matter what. Many teenagers carry weapons out of fear because of rhis lawlessness. It should take TOP PRIORITY not 20 mph roads.
I stand by it that Sadiq has not taken this issue at all seriously. Hes only serious about punishing drivers. Him and that sanctimonious moron Will Norman.

Darker · 06/05/2024 09:51

one of my kid’s friends was the victim of knife crime and very nearly died, so I’m not being naive about this.

what do you think the Mayor should/could do about it?

SinnerBoy · 06/05/2024 10:43

Darker · Today 07:45

The mayor only has a certain amount of influence.

I know, people seem to think that he has vast powers, like the mayor of a large America city, able to dictate policies and hire and fire at will. That's how the Daily Mail reports it, it's bloody ridiculous.

custardlover · 06/05/2024 11:25

I completely agree that violent crime should be a priority in all our cities.

Actually no, I think preventing the causes of violent crime should be the priority.

So that's hopelessness and desperation then eg poverty, the cost of living crisis, inequality, disenfranchised youth, mental health epidemic, radicalisation etc

The mayor may have a part to play but these are much bigger societal problems and can't be solved at a city level.

Whenwillitgetwarm · 06/05/2024 11:29

I’m glad Khan won. I don’t know he managed to keep it together after facing the most orchestrated hate campaign from the right wing press, and on social media. Even Trump has had a pop at him. The interesting thing is that the people who seem the most angry with him don’t even live in London.

The same people who live outside London and hate Khan are usually the first to scream about the level of focus given to London but yet they are hyper focused on the London Mayor. It’s beyond creepy.

And why oh why did the Conservatives pick a candidate who appears to hate the city and its residents? Bonkers.

London is a young city. We want to hear positive plans for the future, not nostalgia for the past, and culture war bollocks.
