So who do you want to be the next Mayor of London?

It's Count Binface/Lord Buckethead for me. I don't think he could do a worse job than his predecessors.

So who do you want to be the next Mayor of London?

I'm definitely not a right winger or hate Muslims. I am a born and raised and have lots of Muslim friends and colleagues and neighbours.
Yes I know that the Conservative government have decimated the social fabric of less privileged communities with their cuts.
I am unhappy with Sadiq Khan for not making violent knife crime top of the priority instead of 20mph roads, some would even say ULEZ.
This should top priority and for 8 years knife crime has increased in London amd the amount of weapons andnfear among young people is unacceptable.

youngones1 · 20/04/2024 21:40

The police should put knife/ metal detecting arches on school exits to catch kids carrying knives.

Wands and arches are already available to all London schools (the school has to make the request, it's not forced on any) in partnership with the Met.

Scanners/arches have been deployed in schools since at least 2008 (and I think in a handful of very challenged schools even earlier) and wands for all was 2017

There are also police liaison officers who build relationships with schools and their communities, and they may well be on the premises at each end of the school day

What a sorry state we’ve fallen into. Metal detectors in schools for the best part of 20 years…I despair 😞

Needspace2023 · 21/04/2024 12:46

Stabbings don't happen in school actually. I think it's fairly obvious that stopping them has not been at the top of the agenda for Sadiq Khan and for this I won't be voting for him and even if he wins by a landslide this will he hanging over him.
The obsession with the roads and the 20 mph limits just do not make sense on main roads. They are either busy with traffic and at night crawling at 20 mph is a waste of fuel. Its also a money spinner as you have to pay £91 to do a speeding course for going at 24 mph. This is something the police have been given and this is their work load now in London.
Meanwhile, we sit in fear for our kids and heartbreak for families of victims of gun crime. Shame on him for doing sweet FA to stop the fear on our streets in London.

SoupDragon · 21/04/2024 12:57

Not Khan. That's about as far as I've got so far.

I do like Count Binface's manifesto but I'm worried that a vote for him rather than a viable candidate is basically a vote for Khan.

Darker · 21/04/2024 15:16

knife crime is not easy to just stop… it’s the result of years of youth services and voluntary services cuts, lack of trust in the Met, poor housing, school budget cuts and poor CAMHS provision…

Darker · 21/04/2024 15:18

I’m for Kahn but hope there will be more resources in future. London is a rich city and should have top quality services to stop the horrific divides between rich and poor.

WhatsTheUseOfWorrying · 21/04/2024 15:33

To the posters who maintain that poorer Londoners support LTNs and other anti-car measures, I would just point out that Lutfur Rahman got re-elected in Tower Hamlets on a platform opposing these schemes.

Exactly 💯 and those people clearly do not know what Working class Londoners really want. It's delusional.
I'm also sorry Susan Hall is the only viable alternative.
Anyhow, the discontent and disappointment will linger in spite of Sadiqs probable reelection.

CloudPop · 21/04/2024 16:21

I genuinely can't understand what would make someone vote for Susan Hall

Do you genuinely believe she has the best interests of Londoners at heart

Some people are drawn to liars.

I don't think Mayor Khan does either

Susan Hall is the anyone but Khan vote.

Yeah, that's why people are voting for Khan too.

I wouldn't vote for her because she has some appalling views.

So, way back when I lived in Toronto, people living in the Greater Toronto Area (suburbs and smaller towns - like Croydon, Kingston and Dartford) all voted in Rob Ford, despite him being a literal crack addict, to “get back” at lefty liberal granola-eating Torontonites.

Susan Hall seems to be hoping the people of Watford and Dagenham do the same for her. “Not having the interests of Londoners at heart” is the whole USP here. People will vote her in to give other Londoners a kicking.

Comedycook · 22/04/2024 07:20

My biggest gripe with Susan Hall is actually how shockingly inarticulate she is. Whenever I see her being interviewed I'm left speechless by how awful her delivery is. She doesn't stand a chance

or are you trying to claim he isn't a liar? 😂😂

My biggest gripe with her is she is an Islamophobic and overall bigot so a definite no for her from me. London is a diverse city and there is no space for yet another politician spewing hatred.

But Sadiq Khan has to step up and put violent crime at the top of the agenda, not 20 mph roads.

I am seriously considering Count Binface 😅

Babymamamama · 30/04/2024 07:45

Did my postal vote at the weekend. Feel so nervous still as I’d hate to see all this amazing work by labour around traffic reduction being reversed. But feel relieved at least my vote is submitted. It’s going to be an interesting set of polls

I presume the idiot saying 'Khan killed london' was the Britain First candidate?

Any Tories going to come back to this thread because I need some salt for my pasta 🤣🤣🤣🤣
