As others who read the same rag may have seen the 1824 Vagrancy Act that begging and sleeping rough in England and Wales illegal was repealled in 2022. Which is presumably why Sunak is so keen to introduce a bill to make sleeping rough illegal.

When 12 of your Cabinet Ministers have misgivings, maybe you should reflect?

Rishi Sunak faces huge Cabinet revolt if he opts to leave ECHR | Politics | News | Express.co.uk

Rishi Sunak is set to face a major Cabinet revolt if he opts to quit the European Convention on Human Rights.
At least 12 senior ministers are opposed to walking away from the international human rights treaty, The Times reports.
They are understood to include Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, Home Secretary James Cleverly and Justice Secretary Alex Chalk.
Cabinet ministers open to leaving include Business and Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch and Levelling Up Secretray Michael Gove but they are outnumbered by two to one by those against cutting ties.

Gove and Badenoch again.

Both Gove and Badenoch would do anything to further their ambitions and I am glad people link them. They are both cut from the same cloth, she's his protégé and the same sanctimonious cant except he is a lot more personable and charming than she is.

Notonthestairs · 10/04/2024 23:00

"Open to it" ?

Do we think either Gove or Badenoch can be arsed to consider our obligations under the GFA or are all of our agreements worthless these days?

How very honourable.

Zyq · 10/04/2024 23:35

I was hearing recently that Sunak really doesn't rate Badenoch and thinks she's pretty useless. She's only there as a sop to the right. I doubt that he really wants a cabinet where everyone with a bit of brainpower has resigned and he's left with incompetents like her.

I wonder if Cameron is amongst the potential resigners if we left the ECHR? That would be seriously embarrassing for Sunak.

What are their ambitions though?

I mean presumably she wants to be PM and he seems himself as Queenmaker, but then what? They always seem to have these mad visions of how they want UK to be but they never seem to have any connection with reality. I mean Brexit being the prime example.

Um, that ship sailed a long time ago, it's how we ended up with Sunak in the first place! Anyone with any integrity and intelligence left when Johnson was in charge. This lot are so bs it's farcical.

TRiP new episode is about some in depth polling they have done, well worth a listen as my impression of what they said was that the Tories know they are toast and are on damage limitation so priority is trying to win votes that could go to Reform. So more right wing.

As a parent with a child with SEND, the lack of support is already alarming. This "reform" call from the government is chilling. Not making headlines though Sad

That makes sense.

Notonthestairs · 11/04/2024 09:06

Out Reform Reform?
So zero taxes, zero waiting lists and zero refugees.
Unsubstantiated one line policies. Costs based on back of a fag packet calculations. Every previous Conservative government was socialist etc.
And the Telegraph, Times, Mail & Express get out the party poppers and print every nonsense word.

So a lot like now, but with even more Tufton Street sprinkles and even more hedge funder donors.

"The letter showed that in addition to the costs incurred by the government’s legal department of £7,785 for internal legal advice, Donelan sought external private legal counsel which cost a further £11,600."

Erm, what now?

And
UKRI, which is an arm’s-length body funded by the taxpayer, disclosed last month in a freedom of information response that it spent £15,000 including VAT on the investigation and more than £8,200 on legal advice.
It means that overall, UKRI and the UK government have spent more than £61,460 as a result of Donelan’s remarks.
But remember Donelan didn't claim her redundancy payment from the job she was in for a few days.

So you know, overall, we probably owe her. 🙄

Sorry - there should be quote marks after Donelan's remarks" !

RafaistheKingofClay · 11/04/2024 14:15

Is it normal to get a redundancy payment for a job that you quit?

Notonthestairs · 11/04/2024 14:28

Of course Grin
Doesn't everyone get a £16k resignation bonus?
Wonder how much she would have been offered if she'd worked 3 days rather 2.

Honestly, if she'd come out and said sixteen grand for me to fuck off, I suspect many of us would've thought it worth the cash. She's awful.

There's real worry in the SEND world about the so-called safety valve agreements. They are tied to a lot of strings around the local authority concerned saving money, and the reality is that the councils concerned are doing so by refusing EHCPs which are obviously desperately needed and refusing to put children in specialist schools when, again, it's obvious that heir needs can't possibly be met in the mainstream. Naturally, neither the government nor the Department for Education are at all bothered that this means they are blatantly telling councils to break the law.
