Iceland to sell hot cross buns without the cross

xsquared · 22/03/2024 07:58

...and replace them with a tick.

1/5 of customers who completed a survey said they didn't want to see the cross as the religious symbol for Good Friday.

That means 4/5 either do or don't care.

I'm not offended, just amused by the daftness of it. Somehow Hot Tick Buns doesn't sound so appealing especially when you associate tick with Lyme's disease!

They aren't hot either. They should call them tick buns.

They should be, you're meant to toast them.

True but if it were real it would still be daft.

I agree, but there are loads of daft things on sale that people buy. Shops can sell whatever makes them money, as long as it's legal.

Not hot cross buns then are they just rolls or tea cakes....prob not to offend other religions...wouldnt surprise me we are losing our traditions to appease others as usual.

Im not religious but its just another chip away at our identity like not flying the flag in areas, not having crosses in funeral parlours etc

We seem hellbent on pleasing others at the expense of our own traditions

GoodOldEmmaNess · 22/03/2024 08:25

In any case, isn't it kind of offensive to Jesus to reduce the instrument of his torture to a sticky tea cake. What next? Haribos shaped like thumbscrews?

Nannyfannybanny · 22/03/2024 08:26

This has made me cross, and Im really ticked off. I'm an atheist, I don't eat them, because they are too much (hiatus hernia and bad acid regurgitation) it's like the Easter cards and eggs that mustn't show religion,in case it upsets different religions!

A homage to the new religion of Nike?

New? Nike is the goddess of victory, long predating newfangled Christianity.Grin
Afaik the tick symbol has no association with her though.

Saw Alice Roberts down Asda this morning, looking disappointed.

What nonsense!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 22/03/2024 08:28

Can’t get worked up about a hot cross bun. Which woke twats complained about the religious element of the cross? As I can’t imagine other religions being so sad or angry to complain!

StopStartStop · 22/03/2024 08:29

A tick? Why bother?
A hot cross bun without a cross is just a currant teacake.

The CEO has tweeted this.

Do look at that tweet before getting cross and heated about this non story Grin

If Easter cards don't show religion it's not to prevent people getting offended, it's so that the shop has a larger group of potential customers.

I think the poster was pointing out that they're not hot when you buy them so shouldn't be called hot Smile I mean you can toast bread, but it's not sold as 'hot bread'.

Grimchmas · 22/03/2024 08:33

All the people who haven't RTT properly yet 😆

In your opinon

EcstaticMarmalade · 22/03/2024 08:35

Well they’ve certainly made hot froth buns.

I think if they've been known as hot cross buns for aeons, not even a monolith like Asda/Walmart feels capable of removing the "hot" bit 😁

Some people are fools every day.

HereForTheFreeLunch · 22/03/2024 08:41

How about calling them...
Hot "2 perpendicular lines intersecting at the midpoints" buns?

Would that be better?

I believe @SirChenjins was being sardonic and intended the reference to Nike to be about the brand and not the religion - ie the Nike tick/swoosh. Many of us think that Nike is a brand promoting a non-religious billion dollar cult not to be trusted, following Nike's generous financial endorsement of an anorectic cos-playing girl-facing breast-less biological man not in need of chest support wearing one of their sports bras designed for actual female athletes.

They should make half with circles, then people can buy multiples and play noughts and crosses.

😆 Tasty tic tac toe
