Wanted to go to the India club on Strand.

Found out it's permanently closed. Want to go somewhere similar.

Cinnamon Club maybe?

PatriciaHolm · 10/03/2024 13:46

Veeraswamy
Massala Zone in Piccadilly is nice
Kutir in Chelsea has a Michelin star I think

Sack of the upmarket, go to Tayyabs and get the dry meat 👩‍🍳💋

Daftasabroom · 10/03/2024 13:51

Dishoom

littlelandlord7 · 10/03/2024 13:52

Gymkhana

Wenttomowameadow · 10/03/2024 13:53

Dishoom. So good! But they usually won't take reservations which can make it stressful!

Itneverrainsinsocal · 10/03/2024 14:19

Madhu’s of Mayfair… it’s in the Dilly Hotel in Piccadilly … they even do an Indian afternoon tea and it is amazing!

Simonjt · 10/03/2024 14:26

When you say Indian, do you mean a posh version of UK ‘Indian’ restaurants? As in that case what you’re actually looking for is a poshish British Bangladeshi restaurant.

Preem in brickland is lovely and serves fantastic Bangladeshi British fusion food. Kolapata isn’t posh, but the food is fantastic.

If you are willing to travel to the burbs, Babur in Forest Hill is amazing.

I second Dishoom

We enjoyed Yaatra recently. Beautiful building in the old Westminster Fire Station. And 50% off on first table if you eat early.

Brigadiers near Cannon Street Station

saltysquid · 10/03/2024 14:45

Benares, Cinnamon Club, Chutney Mary, Quilon, Trishna, Gymkana, Jamavar, Veeraswamy’s, Yaatra, Bombay Brasserie.
Dishoom is nice but not upmarket, it is meant to be based on a mumbai parsi cafe.

App13 · 10/03/2024 14:45

Gunpowder is delightful but not upmarket with silver service and white tablecloths.

Gymkhana in Mayfair certainly used to be there.

Roots in Teddington is doing v v well atm but I have yet to venture.

Zaika in South Kensington was always great but I'd say rather modern take on Indian cuisine.

therealcookiemonster · 10/03/2024 14:46

another vote for veeraswamy

MidnightPatrol · 10/03/2024 14:50

Dishoom isn’t ‘upmarket’ imo. Popular, but not upmarket.

Veeraswamy, Chutney Mary and Gymkhana good suggestions.

I love veeraswamy… of an era.

saltysquid · 10/03/2024 14:53

Agree with Zaika mentioned above too

AngelsWithSilverWings · 10/03/2024 14:56

I agree with forgetting the upmarket restaurants and heading to Tayyabs instead. Best Indian food ever. The lamb chops are to die for and the baby aubergine Dahl is amazing. Take your own alcohol.

This is a really good option for somewhere nice.

Also Gymkhana, Benares and Chutney Mary.

Dishoom is good but definitely not upmarket.

Are you saying Indians aren’t posh mate? 😂

ANiceCuppaTeaandBiscuit · 10/03/2024 14:59

I’d go BiBi, Gynkhana or Gunpowder

saltysquid · 10/03/2024 14:59

The Tamil Prince is fab, but again not fancy, but good vibes. This Paro or Dishoom for mid-level.
