Wanted to go to the India club on Strand.

Found out it's permanently closed. Want to go somewhere similar.

For South Indian food I really rate Vijay Krishna in tooting. Great restaurant and food is delicious. Posh enough for Tooting but not in the Benares/Cinnamon Club league.

Seriously, only 1 vote so far for Kanishka?

I’m salivating now just thinking about the black dal…

Cinnamon Club is lovely. Just reading its name upthread made me want to go back there!

MaddieElla · 15/03/2024 13:27

Dishoom. Oh my lord I'm still salivating over the gunpowder potatoes!

And they do a marvellous lamb biryani with pastry over the top like a pie. Delicious.

BarrelOfOtters · 15/03/2024 13:36

Again, Dishoom is good food but it's not upmarket.

frumpyunderwear · 16/03/2024 21:59

Went to Colonel Saab tonight for dinner and loved it.
Would definitely recommend.

Finally went to Veraswamy today. Set me back over £70 but was worth it.

Sack of the upmarket, go to Tayyabs and get the dry meat 👩‍🍳💋

Reviewed on Gary Eats on YT recently. The food looked fantastic. Place looked nice as well

DaBlackCatsAreDaBestCats · 21/04/2024 22:22

Tayyab is fantastic! Take your own booze but it doesn’t detract x

Does anyone mind me resurrecting this thread?

I've visited the Tamil Prince now. A lovely place although tbh the food wasn't up to the hype- some of it was a bit bland and it was overpriced for what it was, I thought. Loved the spectacle of the channa bhatura though.

Going to Kutir in Chelsea next week...

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/08/2024 23:08

@frumpyunderwear Would love to hear more about the places you went to.

CurlewKate · 25/08/2024 06:31

Gymkhana. And buy some of their pre prepared curry sauces on your way home!

I like Gymkhana but couldn’t get a reservation for this visit. They’ve got 2 stars now.

Rasa is on my list!

British Indian foodie over here 🙋🏽‍♀️ If you’re looking for South Indian, this isn’t quite London but I definitely recommend checking out Bhoomi in Oxford /Cheltenham. They’re not Michelin star but have made it into the Michelin Guide.

I live in London and love Dishoom

frumpyunderwear · 25/08/2024 16:30

I did go to veeraswamy and loved it.

Starter was a lamb kebab for myself. Mains dishes were rice and naan that we shared. We had a lovely lamb/egg curry, a chicken curry and a fish dish.

Bhoomi looks good. Might have to organise a trip!

I must admit I'm a bit over Dishoom. I like it but I think they need to to tinker with/extend their veggie options after all this time.

JanefromLondon1 · 25/08/2024 16:39

Benares is lovely.

Dishoom always has hideous queues outside so if you don't mind waiting 🤷🏻‍♀️

frumpyunderwear · 25/08/2024 16:42

I feel Dishoom is lacking with its fish dishes
