Does your cat supervise the laundry?

Mushroomwithaview · 08/03/2024 22:35

My cat tirelessly supervises every aspect of the laundry. She is extremely conscientious, especially when supervising the pegging out, which is her area of particular expertise.

I mentioned it to my mum, who said that her cat, Bob, also supervises the pegging out - and gets quite cross if he finds my mother has started without his supervision.

And then yesterday I was stuck on a train watching a man in his back garden peg out laundry under the watchful eye of his two cats.

Is this a universal thing? Does your cat supervise the laundry?

Not the laundry but changing the bedding. I don’t know how she knows I’m doing it but will always appear when I’m putting on the clean bedsheet. She zoomies all over the bed, helpfully smoothing the sheet down, runs into the duvet cover, then falls asleep on the side I haven’t tucked the bedsheet in.

No, the pair of slackers. But they do like to check it is dry when I've brought it in before I take it upstairs. By sitting on it.

PlaceYourBetsPlease · 08/03/2024 22:45

Yes! And also bringing in the shopping and unpacking it. He loves to help.

Mine does! And the washing up, and me taking a bath. I had all three of them watching me tonight!

Flojoloco · 08/03/2024 22:47

Nope but mine loves water so he helpful supervises me running a bath, brushing my teeth and even going for a wee!

SabrinaThwaite · 08/03/2024 22:47

You know your cat is criticising your pegging technique? ‘That's going to crease, you’ll never get that out with the iron’.

If you had a dog it would just be watching you and thinking ‘you’re so clever, I wish I could do that’.

OutOfTheHouse · 08/03/2024 22:47

Changing the sheets and sorting the laundry is a job that requires close supervision and assistance.

Yes, mine loves water too. Watering the plants is the best thing in the world.

One of our cats likes to supervise all outdoor activities. We had an extension built and DP and I walked around it every night to see what had been completed - he came too. If he sees us go out the front door, he rushes out the back door to catch up and see what we are doing.

Mine oversees the unpacking of the shopping. The game, apparently, is Find The Dreamies, miraculously they’re always the last thing we unpack (therefore I win)

Not the laundry but both my cats supervise me putting out the bins/recycling. They both like to sleep in the basket of clean laundry and get very annoyed with me when I have the nerve to put the clean washing away. One cat is an avid watcher of the soaps and likes to sit where he can completely block the screen.

murasaki · 08/03/2024 22:56

Oh yes, I can't be trusted to run or sit in a bath by myself by senior cat. He also checks the paper Morrisons delivery bags to check I've emptied them properly (by climbing in). He is a helpful boy.

VenusClapTrap · 08/03/2024 22:56

Yes she does. She sits in the doorway of the greenhouse and watches from there. If the greenhouse door happens to be closed, I have to open it specially for the duration of the pegging.

She also takes a special interest in the loading and unloading of the machine, but I think this may be because it’s next to the cat food cupboard, so she’s trying to get me to move along one and open that instead.

NameChangedAgainn · 08/03/2024 22:59

Mine supervise the laundry too, and will hop in the basket with the clean laundry to inspect the clean clothes. Hoping that this is a sign they're going to take over the laundry so I can focus on other housework.

When we had a dog he was usually thinking "I could eat one of those socks" 😂

SnowflakeSparkles · 08/03/2024 23:01

Mine supervises the washing up very closely, insists I run the tap for him before we begin though!

QueenOfThorns · 08/03/2024 23:05

Yes! I refer to one of ours as the laundry supervisor because she’s always there to watch the pegging out and also when I fetch the clothes back in. It never occurred to me that other cats might do this, I thought it was just her being weird!

AncientBallerina · 08/03/2024 23:05

Not laundry but all DH’s DIY projects. She is especially attentive to IKEA assembly projects.
Oh and the shopping. Apparently they think it is prey that you have brought home.😀

AdoraBell · 08/03/2024 23:06

We have a dog, German Shepherd, and while she doesn’t fully supervise she does nonchalantly check that I use the washing machine correctly. Then she looks over her shoulder to make sure I use the clothes pegs properly. She is not impressed if I use the clothes horse indoors, that’s just beyond the pale.

OkPedro · 08/03/2024 23:07

Aww what a lovely thread ☺️

My darling likes to help put the shopping away.. well he rushes to the door when he hears me come home, tries to jump into the shopping bags.. gives everything a good sniff then patiently waits for the treat bag.
He also likes to supervise me changing the bed covers. Like a pp he seems to just know! He likes to get under the sheet, tries to get in behind the bed usually gets stuck and then has the zoomies 😆

No, but she did try to help me remove cat hair from a pair of black trousers. 🤔🫤🤨

TwigTheWonderKid · 08/03/2024 23:31

Dcat likes to supervise bed changing. From under the sheet.

LoobyDop · 08/03/2024 23:32

Mine supervises most things, but her special subjects are bed changing and printing. She LOVES the printer.
