Does your cat supervise the laundry?

Mushroomwithaview · 08/03/2024 22:35

My cat tirelessly supervises every aspect of the laundry. She is extremely conscientious, especially when supervising the pegging out, which is her area of particular expertise.

I mentioned it to my mum, who said that her cat, Bob, also supervises the pegging out - and gets quite cross if he finds my mother has started without his supervision.

And then yesterday I was stuck on a train watching a man in his back garden peg out laundry under the watchful eye of his two cats.

Is this a universal thing? Does your cat supervise the laundry?

I love this thread so much.

My Dcats over the years have had many jobs, they really are the greatest workforce.

My dear girl who passed away two years ago was the laundry inspector for when it came out of the dryer. She just had to hear the dryer door open and she was waiting on a suitable lounge cushion as you tried to walk past. You couldn't get past though, because the look she gave you made you instantly put the warm washing in a nice pile so she could smoosh down inside it. If it was suitably dry and warm she would stay there for hours. I took to drying an old towel and giving her that while sneaking the actual washing past. Bless her, she was lovely.

One of my current ladies follows me everywhere. She seems to think her sole purpose is keeping me alive. But she draws the line at sitting on my lap. That treat she reserves only for my husband while giving me a smug look 🙄

Mine supervise every single parcel I ever get through the door!

Mostly neighbourhood watch
He also supervises laundry and putting away of plates

And my dad when he comes over to do DIY. For a person that "doesn't like cats" my dad does a lot of psss psss and "where is my shady, would he like some ham, he looks hungry, has he had a brush today" Hmm

Toilet monitor.
Legs it up the stairs before you.
Decides to let you in, eventually.
Then stares at you pointedly until you look away so she can use her (covered) litter box.
Scales the top of the boiler, so she is higher than me sitting on the loo!
Or squashes herself under the radiator with her back turned.
Insists you talk to her, without looking back at you.
Then does the Loaf so you can't go downstairs until she is ready.
Beats me downstairs, claims my side of the bed.
Bastard 😂

Dcat likes to supervise bed changing. From under the sheet.

Did a proper wheezy laugh at that photo Twig Grin

Oh look at those two beauties.

ooooohnoooooo · 10/03/2024 06:40

My cats hate me and ignore me most of the time, the little furry bastards.

They do sometimes come out in the garden though when I'm gardening, have a poo in my flowerbeds and then fuck off.

I luffs them so much though ❤️🙄

Thomasina79 · 10/03/2024 06:48

No, but he does supervise us when we eat, particularly the evening meal. He gets up on the table (yes I know) and watches every mouthful go in the mouth. He especially likes fish and chip night. Greedy so and so!

Mine tries to lie in the laundry basket.

One of mine years ago (RIP Coco) managed to drag a (massive) dead blackbird through the open back door, across the kitchen and hallway, up the stairs and into a pop up laundry hamper without anyone noticing… when I found her it quickly went from an aww look photo opportunity to WTAF is that?!

ochrebla · 10/03/2024 09:54

Mine supervises me unpacking the shopping, particularly if raw chicken is detected. Then she supervises very very diligently....

My girl cat is supervising the extensive building work we are currently having done on our house. She particularly enjoyed inspecting the scaffolding.

One of the builders is completely besotted with her, I heard him chatting away to her the other day.

That’s so sweet about the builder and the cat. 😻

cooroocoocoo · 10/03/2024 10:00

DCat does it too! Supervises pegging the laundry, helps when I change the bed sheets, protects me from predators when I am showering by stretching across the threshold to the bathroom, and inspects my shopping when I come back from the shops.

she also selflessly ensures I am still breathing several times during the night by sitting on my head and purring like mad.

BarbaraBuncle · 10/03/2024 10:02

Mine likes to supervise the cooking, from right where I need to stand 🙄 and is also self-appointed cupboard inspector. Never leave a cupboard door open in our house 😁

OoohLovelySlippers · 10/03/2024 11:53

Mine likes to supervise me putting my foot cream on every morning. I think she likes the smell.

murasaki · 10/03/2024 15:22

Big Lionel has decided he is the monitor of my football related mental health. So he sat in front of the TV thus blocking my view of three absolute shockers conceded this afternoon. Forgetting the existence of other media on other devices. But I applaud his efforts in the field. He has also acted as an alarm clock today. He takes his responsibilities seriously.

Mine has no interest in cooking. Eating is a different matter entirely though. Each and every dinner time features sad faced begging of the "Please, can I have some?" And with the same result every time. I give him a morsel only for it to be ignored as it's not what he wants.

There isn't a cupboard in the house he can't open though. I come downstairs some mornings to find every single cupboard door wide open apart from one. The sole remaining closed door is the cupboard where his food is kept.

No idea why but that's cats for you. Inscrutable to the nth degree.

NoddyfromToytown · 10/03/2024 17:36

@murasaki soumds like your cat definitely paid attention for this lesson in kitty class… I know mine did!

Hillrunning · 10/03/2024 17:45

Mine supervise everything in the house and garden. Cooking, DIY, showering, laundry, board games. They would supervise the sex if we let them.

ALongHardWinter · 10/03/2024 17:45

Mine has zero interest in laundry matters, but actively participates in bed sheet changing,i.e. getting in the way. She also loves it when I sort out paperwork. She likes to sit on various piles of paper,or rearrange them. She also thoroughly inspects any shopping that I bring into the house.

Catsmere · 10/03/2024 20:49

I just remembered mine used to supurrvise Mum’s physio-exercise sessions. Phoebe would sit on her lap while she was trying to do seated marches, or watch from the back of her chair, or get the instructor to make wiggly shadows for her to chase, and they’d both come and sit on his lap and get their pictures taken. 😆

I have so enjoyed this thread.
What conscientious and diligent little helpers we have!

We are having some work done in the garden, the cat has been supervising the workmen and has tired herself out running from the front to the back of the house.

TheFireflies · 12/03/2024 01:25

I have a cat who has “helped” us change our bedding religiously for twelve years now, every time, no matter where she is in the house when we start. She’s nearly 15 years old now, very arthritic with mobility issues, but the first sound of a sheet being pulled back and she still manages to show up in time to get right in the way.

Theoldwrinkley · 12/03/2024 02:30

Loved this thread. We have 7 year-old moggies, and an 8 month old maine coon kitten who isn't allowed out at night after he was a dirty stop-out a couple of weeks ago and caused panic. So we get him in in the evening by setting off the printer. I don't know how he can hear it but (so far) the printer has always summoned him.....even more reliable than the dreamie box rattle.
