Does your cat supervise the laundry?

My cat tirelessly supervises every aspect of the laundry. She is extremely conscientious, especially when supervising the pegging out, which is her area of particular expertise.

I mentioned it to my mum, who said that her cat, Bob, also supervises the pegging out - and gets quite cross if he finds my mother has started without his supervision.

And then yesterday I was stuck on a train watching a man in his back garden peg out laundry under the watchful eye of his two cats.

Is this a universal thing? Does your cat supervise the laundry?

No. Our cat is too busy watching the food bowls just in case we've decided to feed him again.

We have 3, one is the box inspector, one who likes to sit next to me in the evening and check how my crochet is coming along, if I've got a particularly nice bit going, she carries it away and sings to it. The third one is my Bathroom Support Cat, I have IBS and spend a fair bit of time there, he checks up on me regularly. Not sure how I would manage without his input really.

Ours supervises the dog walk. As if we can’t be trusted with it.

Very organised to spread the roles out between them. You run a tight ship.

My cat supervises EVERYTHING!
If someone new comes to the house she has to check out what's going on, building work, repair people, shopping deliveries. All carefully supervised!

Mine supervises most things, but her special subjects are bed changing and printing. She LOVES the printer.

I love that she has taken on the printer as her responsibility.

One of ours regularly supervises the departure of the dogs and I, safely, from our premises and down our road. Then returns to base (gate post) to await our arrival, and then escorts us, safely, back indoors.
He abandons his duties if the weather is inclement.

Catsmere · 09/03/2024 02:35

They would if they could get to it! But they're indoor-only, and I use a communal washer and dryer, so they can't come along to supurrvise. They make up for that by overseeing while I have a shower, go to the loo, make tea, knit, or read in bed.

Catsmere · 09/03/2024 02:41

Forgot to add that my younger cat considers the toaster her particular responsibility.

My late DBoycat used to supervise the laundry, clean bed linen, going for a wee and bringing home the groceries. When we had a cleaner he used to supervise her.

I miss him so.

VenetiaHallisWellPosh · 09/03/2024 06:52

Mine is both sxared and curious about the washing machine. It's her monster nemesis (Think Kevin in the basement in the first Home Alone film) and a source of fascination. Especially when I'm washing her blankets etc

We live in a flat so we use an airer. Cat used to climb on the airer when she was little, she doesn't anymore.

She does lije sleeping on a clean pike of washing though. So I put dry washing away fairly quickly to avoid cat hair.

reallyworriedjobhunter · 09/03/2024 07:04

Mine supervises everyone leaving for school and work. He walks with us to school, waits and then walks back with me. If I leave for work, he sees me off from the front garden.

It's exhausting making sure that we are all seen off for the day with all the right bags etc so he then has to sleep until we all come home.

Yes he does but he's not the most intelligent of cats. 😻

Mine loves helping when I change the bed. What fun to help and jump in everywhere.
Bizarrely he isn't afraid of the hoover.
Everything is playtime.

whatisforteamum · 09/03/2024 07:27

Also he is on fridge guard.
I often have to pay the cheese tax.😆

TerfTalking · 09/03/2024 07:28

Mine is only interested in sitting on it when it’s clean and freshly ironed. Especially white pillowcases which are particularly attractive.

borntobequiet · 09/03/2024 07:34

@AdoraBell my springer spaniel used to supervise the hoovering, mainly because his treat was to have it run over him at the end. He loved a good vacuuming.

Notgoodatpoetrybutgreatatlit · 09/03/2024 07:36

In the old days when the gas board used to come round and read your meter I had a cat who supervised . I found a young man in my basement trying to see the reading and record it while not dislodging my cat who was on his bent knee. The met

Notgoodatpoetrybutgreatatlit · 09/03/2024 07:39

Sorry my cat posted that, different cat, meter was in an awkward position and the job was being made much harder by my supervisor cat.
She seemed to specialise in befriending tradesmen.

Has she ever considered joining the Civil Service? I could do with a printing runner - my printer is on an entirely different floor from me .

Not the laundry but changing the bedding. I don’t know how she knows I’m doing it but will always appear when I’m putting on the clean bedsheet. She zoomies all over the bed, helpfully smoothing the sheet down, runs into the duvet cover, then falls asleep on the side I haven’t tucked the bedsheet in.

Bed making is my cat's speciality, she just loves it.

GMH1974 · 09/03/2024 07:43

My cat likes to watch the washing machine going round. She thinks it's her job to roll on all the clean laundry and particularly favours warm towels. She also loves it when I try and change the sheets and thinks it's some sort of game which involves her jumping everywhere.

FairFuming · 09/03/2024 07:53

My two both come and watch me hanging the washing out, one then goes back in the window while the other escorts me to the door. The little one (11 year old but still a deadly shadow to rodents and birds) also feels the need to sleep with and guard my kids at night while the big one ( 2 years old giant but only thing we've seen him kill is 2 fleece blankets and an electric throw, he thinks he's part moth) comes and pretends to be my hot water bottle/weighted blanket.

massistar · 09/03/2024 08:11

Not the washing but my DH would be unable to do any DIY without the help of our cat. He likes to lend a hand as well as supervise by inspecting the small parts and batting them between his paws. Although he discovered that sniffing the white spirit wasn't his best idea.
