Do you love your dishwasher?

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 08/03/2024 09:03

Ours has just broken, it trips the power whenever we try to start it. However it is old, some of the plate prongs have snapped off. Its a Bosch
I don't know how to choose a new one, the choice is overwhelming. So please tell me the good and bad points of your dishwasher, is the new cutlery shelf feature in some better than a basket? and anyone with a smart connectivity / voice control one, what is the point of this? Looking forward to an exciting dishwasher discussion 😀

We’ve got a really old one we inherited with the house, but I have used the cutlery shelf at others houses and I think it’s so fiddly. All the tech is so unnecessary just get a good Bosch one

GloriaMundy · 08/03/2024 09:05

I do. The dishwasher is me.

SquirrelsAssemble · 08/03/2024 09:08

Cutlery tray all the way!
I'll never look back.

I've got a very un-fancy Neff which has done a good job for 3+ years now.

I wanted a Fisher & Paykel 2-drawer one, but it was mega-expensive for very little benefit other than being a bit cool.

I find a cutlery tray really useful as it frees up space in the lower rack.

SquirrelsAssemble · 08/03/2024 09:09

I do find more tech = more things to go wrong.

Both white goods and cars 🙄

WhatsTheUseOfWorrying · 08/03/2024 09:11

Bosch every time. We just buy the cheapest.

I prefer the tray to a basket. It does take a few more seconds to load but it cleans better (forks and spoons don’t stick together, which they used to in a basket no matter how much care I took to separate them). And the tray is a better use of space.

Tabs, salt and rinse aid are musts. But I never bother with cleaner.

saveforthat · 08/03/2024 09:13

I've have a Siemens that is over 20 years old. Had it repaired twice (power £100 each time) so pretty reliable. Am watching thread now as next time it goes I will probably replace.

Vaccances · 08/03/2024 09:13

I find hand washing dishes therapeutic, i ve got a Bosch dishwasher, never use it.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/03/2024 09:16

Definitely prefer the cutlery tray. Knives point down in the basket of the old one used to damage it, knives point up are dangerous.

Apart from that - my current one is a neff, it's fine though I think I need to clean out the pump more than I did on whatever it was I had before.

Taylormiffed · 08/03/2024 09:18

Not my current one. 2yr old Bosch serie 2. Hate it. (Previous old bosch was great).

Doesn't beep or have a flashing screen display when it finishes. As a result we forget to open when finished and it takes ages to dry. No pre-rinse either so when I don't have much to wash for a couple of days it gets smelly and doesn't wash well. It was from John Lewis too, they don't usually sell rubbish.

This, and Bosch! We've always had Bosch ones and they've been great

Mine is a Zanussi now 12 years old. No complaints about it. My daughter has a Beko. I hate the cutlery box. Their cutlery is slightly chunky and the grid holes for the cutlery are various sizes. The knives and forks don’t fit in some holes. If the grandkids have started filling it and put the small spoons in the wide holes there’s no wide holes left for the chunky items and it all needs rearranged. I also find that some side plates don’t fit in their top shelf that fit in mine. First world problems, I know!

Binfire · 08/03/2024 09:34

We had an old Hotpoint Aquarius and it was brilliant, it lasted 15 years at least without any issues at all. So we replaced it with a new integrated Hotpoint when we had a new kitchen and we’ve had nothing but trouble. The whole dishwasher moves in and out because a leg at the back snapped, the plastic wheels on the bottom rack are flimsy and pop off all the time. The rack slips sideways once it’s half full due to the weight of the plates and stops the bottom arm from spinning. It’s a total disaster and I hate it.

I feel like it just wasn’t made to last, flimsy and clumsy. I would replace it if I thought that we wouldn’t have any issues with a new one but suspect they will all have similar inbuilt obsolescence issues. I’m tempted to buy a ten year old one from Facebook marketplace!

beetr00 · 08/03/2024 09:41

I totally agree with @Ifailed we've had the previous version of this since 2009!!

The cutlery shelf is so easy. Have had no problems, at all.

I despise ours (inherited it - very damaged - with the house). When we buy a new one it will be Bosch, or similar good brand, and I'd really like a cutlery tray.

SoleTrader · 08/03/2024 12:14

Can you put bigger & fatter items of cutlery in a cutlery tray, eg large serving spoons, soup ladle etc?

Yogatoga1 · 08/03/2024 12:18

Following as I hate mine. Got a cheap one when ours broke suddenly and it’s crap.

when I can afford I will replace with something decent. Not falling for the cheap is just as good again.

MsRinky · 08/03/2024 12:20

The two week gap between the death of the 25-year old Miele that came with the house and the delivery of the new one was a truly grim time. I love mine, and it's cutlery tray, with a passion. Bought mine from their online outlet store. I haven't used the auto-dispenser thingy since the one it came with ran out, and I never use the bluetooth connectivity, those just came with the quiet and efficient model I wanted (open plan house).

Lifebeganat50 · 08/03/2024 12:29

I’m literally sitting waiting for my new Bosch to be delivered today!

I’ve always had Bosch until I got a new kitchen 18 months ago and got a “free” integrated Hoover DW.

Except it’s been beyond shite and broke down last week. I phoned 3 repair guys who won’t touch them because they’re shite made in China amd can’t be repaired.

Stick with your Bosch!!

seven201 · 08/03/2024 12:29

I don't like cutlery trays personally - too faffy and you constantly have to pull it in and out to get stuff in when stacking. I prefer the shove it in the basket option so it's just down to personal preference. We had a Hisense that was crap and just changed to Aeg and happy so far.

Lifebeganat50 · 08/03/2024 12:31

This is what I’m waiting for, the main factor for me is the low noise level as we’re open plan

MorrisZapp · 08/03/2024 12:33

I love my Bosch and my cutlery basket but we are a family of three, and we have lovely Scottish mains water. Tbh when the dishwasher tabs run out I run it without and the results are as good!

Letsnotargue · 08/03/2024 12:36

I love our dishwasher. I can’t imagine not having one any more than I can imagine hand washing all my clothes.

I was dubious about the cutlery tray but I love it. Ours pops the door open when finished which I like.

It can be app controlled but I’ve not found an occasion where that would be useful. Sometimes when I’m out it messages me to tell me the dishwasher has finished. But I’m out so I don’t care. It can be handy to see how long is left on the cycle because it’s integrated so there is no display, but I could manage without that.

I don’t know how long they have been putting lights inside dishwashers, but this is the first I’ve had with one and I love it.

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 08/03/2024 12:37

Why do people who don't have a dishwasher or who have one, but don't use it comment on these threads? Bizarre and unhelpful to the OP. Life is too short to wash dishes and do a host of other dull tasks. I wouldn't be without a dishwasher. We have a Neff which is very quiet in our open plan kitchen diner.
