Do you love your dishwasher?

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 08/03/2024 09:03

Ours has just broken, it trips the power whenever we try to start it. However it is old, some of the plate prongs have snapped off. Its a Bosch
I don't know how to choose a new one, the choice is overwhelming. So please tell me the good and bad points of your dishwasher, is the new cutlery shelf feature in some better than a basket? and anyone with a smart connectivity / voice control one, what is the point of this? Looking forward to an exciting dishwasher discussion 😀

My bosch is about 13 years old and has the cutlery tray. It works well.

BarrelOfOtters · 08/03/2024 12:41

mid range Bosch. I Like the cutlery tray now I’m used to it. It’s handy for plastic lids too.

it beeps when it’s finished.

GasPanic · 08/03/2024 12:43

I have Bosch Series 4. I think the cutlery tray is great.

I have found the quantum finish tabs work very well.

With this machine and the decent tabs I find it gets stuff a lot cleaner than the old one I had.

Probably the only cycles I use are

economy 40 degrees every night

quick wash occasionally
and rinse only occasionally.

I do a once a month 60 degrees to clean it through.

We're a large family and those cutlery boxes used to get too full. I like the tray.

Clear family divide on how to fill tray 'correctly'.

I have a Neff ( cheapest model ) and it's very quiet. I picked it for that. Also has a little blue light onto the floor so you can see if it's running. Actually my favourite feature.

Can you put bigger & fatter items of cutlery in a cutlery tray, eg large serving spoons, soup ladle etc?

In mine (Bosch), big knives, garlic press, strainers, smaller spatulas etc. will fit in the tray. Ladles, the biggest serving spoons, and some other bigger things I put among the cups, glasses and bowls in the next basket down.

Yes I do, I thought I always loved my previous dishwashers but have discovered true love with my brand new Miele dishwasherGrin It's the bees knees and would totally recommend it. The dishes come out clean and dry, even plastic. I was about to replace my cutlery again as it had been ruined in my previous dishwasher but the Miele has saved it as it looks like new again.

Ah, now that could convince me to trade up to a Miele.

I'm on the fence over cutlery trays. Our current machine (Neff) has one but it really affects the height of the top main tray so we have to hand-wash glasses that won't fit in.

GinnyWizz · 08/03/2024 13:52

Just replaced our 2007 Bosch with a Miele (as per which? And this is my 1st ever miele purchase although ive used my mums before) and I'm finding it very irritating adjusting to the new dishwasher layout. Not just the cutlery tray!

It's amazingly quiet and gets everything sparkly and dry though. It was v expensive but v necessary.

GinnyWizz · 08/03/2024 13:56

FYI, Miele were reported as much quieter than Other makes in the which? tests, if quiet is important, like it was for us, with open plan living. Really the only reason for not getting another Bosch.

DiscoBeat · 08/03/2024 13:57

We had a Bosch, also another one in our rental and they both packed up. Now we've got Miele ones and they're brilliant.very generous capacity and rarely need any attention. They have a cutlery tray on the top but we only use it for sharp knives and other utensils, we kept the old Bosch cutlery trays. The only thing that has gone wrong on one of them is it no longer locks shut firmly so our Labrador can force it open to lick the goodies inside (not really a problem as he doesn't do it when he can smell the detergent, so not when it's running or clean).

LindorDoubleChoc · 08/03/2024 14:00

I love my dishwasher, oh indeedy.

My current dw is my favourite, it's the top of the range Beko (so still pretty cheap). I've had 4 others including AEG and John Lewis, I can't remember before that.

This one is absolutely silent! Everything comes out spotless from an Eco wash and it has a cutlery basket as well as the top shelf tray thing. Am very happy with it.

LaughingHistorically · 08/03/2024 14:05

Yes, I love mine. It's a Bosch - a slightly dearer one as I wanted a stainless steel front.
I disagree with all the cutlery tray lovers though, I felt it really limited the sizing of items in the racks below. Some of my dinner plates wouldn't fit and my long stemmed glasses would need a holder for the bottom rack. I tried in the shop before purchase (I'm an over - researcher 🤦).

The only glasses I've got which won't fit are ones which are better off being hand washed anyway - whatever the claims of various dishwasher tablets I'm not convinced any are completely ok for decent glass.

Gagagagagaga · 08/03/2024 15:46

Miele, much better quality than my Bosch one, cutlery tray means loads more room on the bottom shelf.

I actually love it 🥰

Gagagagagaga · 08/03/2024 15:47

Also the Miele pops the door open at the end so everything dries beautifully before you unload it

LooneyLiberalSpaceWaster · 08/03/2024 15:50

Yes more than my husband.

It's bosch, it's efficient, time saving, useful, works everytime, doesn't complain its too tired,....husband didn't want the dishwasher because it washing dishes was the only useful thing he did in the kitchen.

helpmum2003 · 08/03/2024 16:36

beetr00 · 08/03/2024 14:15

@helpmum2003 did you know you can lower your top basket so your glasses can fit?

Oh thank you @beetr00 ! I've just lowered it, how exciting! Guess I never read the manual.....

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 08/03/2024 16:38

Miele whisper quiet one, love it. Cutlery drawer is great as allows more space at the bottom .

aquarimum · 08/03/2024 16:46

I hate the cutlery rack instead of a basket. Useless for thicker than usual cutlery and no space for utensils.

Lifebeganat50 · 08/03/2024 18:38

New one has been installed-will report back!

Runnerinthenight · 08/03/2024 18:56

When my Bosch died, after pronouncing the Last Rites on it, the repair guy said that all dishwashers were "shite now"! He recommended just buying a cheap Beko.

I spent a lot of money on the Bosch one and it was never that good, always some dishes left dirty in it. Had chosen a Beko one (which according to the salesman are better as they're made in Germany - how true I have no idea!) but he showed me a Grundig one that was exactly the same inside and was a tenner dearer, so I went with that one. I was desperate after a couple of weeks without one! Apparently everyone else in the house was 'above' washing by hand, except me! 🙄

I like the cutlery tray. I like the light. I like that it beeps when it's finished and the door opens. Why on earth I would want to run it remotely is a mystery to me but apparently it tells DH when it needs rinse aid... It's not amazing but so far it's better than the Bosch.

Just avoid Currys though! I only went as a last resort. Paid for delivery thinking that was the sum total but no, there was an installation cost too. Guys who came to deliver it were curt and quite rude. One scoffed at my hall table and said, "we can't bring it in past that!" so I asked them to bring it round the back.

Went into my kitchen then and announced, "We won't be installing it!" I said, "I paid you to do just that!" "No", he said, "you are changing from a semi-integrated to a freestanding and we don't have time!" I replied, "I told the salesman that at the time!" No moving him. Muttered I'd get a refund in 5 days.

Then they brought the machine in the patio doors. Left it in the dining room! I said, "hold on a minute, you can't leave it there! You have to at least deliver it to the room it's meant to go in!" Grudging man 1 called man 2 back. After they left I discovered a dent on the front of it.

Couple of weeks later, no refund. Rang Customer Disservice. Total disaster. Had to drive to the store and look for a manager. Got a refund. He was to raise the issue with Head Office. Never heard a thing. Had to drive back to the store again. He produced a grainy image showing no dent. The side where the dent is was in shadow. I was told to email Head office.

I gave up at that point. Never again!
